It appears to have original paint and is in amazing condition. The previous owner said it's been in her family and never restored. I can't find anything to indicate otherwise during close inspection. Antique 1800's Cast Iron Book Binding Nipping Copy Press Collectible Nice Detail
You are bidding on an Exceptional antique Book Binding Press. Copy Press or"nipping press. In cast iron with some of the original ornate decorative gold and green paint intact. This model appears to be rare in size and style. This press has not been re-touched- what you see is the original condition. We barely dusted with a soft cloth to help show detail. The top plate measures 10 1/4" x 13 1/16" The bottom pressing area is 13 5/8" x 15 1/2" The press opening is 2 5/8" It is in excellent working condition. And there is no structural damage. The hand crank turns smoothly and easily- the plate presses extremely tight. There is some surface chipping to the paint and on the inner surface between plates- as seen in the photographs. The brass nut on top of the hand crank does not appear original& one of the guide ... moretabs is missing from the top plate. This does not affect the smooth openining and closing of the press. Nor does it affect the tightness of it's closure. I am not an expert in book binding equipment, but am happy to answer questions. This great machine needs a wonderful loving home! The most I can tell you is the following This cool press looks to be converted into a vulcanizer for making rubber molds.But. I can not be positive. It has a manufacturer name of Howe Trademark in red as pictured.faded. But still legible. This press weighs a hefty 82 pounds! The press has aluminum plates that are attached to the under side. When plugged in and the dial is turned, the plates begin to warm up. At about 3 minutes after turning the device on. Antique/Vintage Cast Iron Book Binding Press Industrial Steam Punk Flower Reno
This is a cast iron book press. I'm not sure of the age. But it's an oldie. It's 18 1/2" long x 10 1/4" wide x 11 1/2" tall. It doesn't have the bottom plate. But it still can be attached to your workbench with long bolts. A bottom plate can easily be made out of a plank of wood, or a piece of metal with machined holes. There is some rust on the bottom of the plate. A small piece of metal has broken off the bottom of one of the vertical arms, and there is a small crack on the bottom of the other one.

Antique Book Press late 1890's cast iron Excellent accent/display Piece
BLACK CAST IRON ANTIQUE BOOK PRESS This is a late 1800's Book Press. It is in excellent working order. And is in excellent shape for its age. These pieces are quickly being picked up for display pieces and accent pieces throughout homes. It has been well-maintained. And has much of its black paint intact. There is a Large G makers mark stamped on the center of the neck. This item measures 20" wide, 18" deep and 13" tall approximately. Solid cast iron this was made to last and weighs 56 lbs. This would make a wonderful working press for a book dealer or decoration for an interior designer. Picked up at a local book shop that was in business for the last 58 yrs. It's been taken care of. This press is a larger model. With the Top Press Plate measuring 10" x 15" The outer measurements of the press: 20"L x 11-3/8"W The hand wheel in the open position measures 17-1/4" H. And in the closed(pressed) position 14-1/4"H.which provides for 3 inches between the top and bottom plates. The hand wheel itself measures 9-7/8" diameter. As shown in the pictures. The press is worn and discolored from it's original black painted finish. Although well used. It does not have any cracks. Antique Cast Iron Book Press Large 14.5" x 10.75" Press Plate + Wood Crate 88LBS
Antique cast iron book press. Book press has a base plate that measures 14.5" x 10.75" The press opens up to a height of 3.25" and total weight is 88 pounds. The threaded spindle works with ease. The press could probably use a good cleaning but is in overall very good 100% working condition with some very minor surface rust. I do not see a manufacturers name. My son made a sturdy wooden crate for shipping that weighs 20 pounds. Total weight in crate will be 108 pounds. Thank goodness UPS will pick package up at my home but if you live in the midwest and want to pick this item up that is A-OK with me. If delivered and not picked up you will have to remove some screws to remove top. The press crate was made so the press fits very snug which means the press will not move during shipment.

Antique cast iron book press 19th century marked with letter G VERY NICE
This is a heavy antique book press(weighs 45 ponds) There is no name but there is the letter"G" It is in cast iron. I love the wheel. I have owned this for many years and my grandchildren would pretend they were driving a car but now they are all big so I decided to sell it. because I live in Canada I found out that it will cost me $100 to ship to the U.S.A. I have to package the item in a strong box) but if it costs less. I will refund you the difference. The measurements are the widest part is 17.5" the wheel is 9" across. the height is 9" when turned all the way down but can expand quite a bit. There is the normal wear of paint but this is a very nice piece super heavy duty.

Great antique hand made and ornate cast iron 1860's Book Binding Press
You are looking at a great antique hand made and ornate cast iron 1860's Book Binding Press. The press weighs approximately 50 pounds and the overall length is 13" long 12" wide and 13" tall if closed. The plate does not freely move up and down and there is some damage to one of the stands(but all screw holes are intact) The grey and yellow paint seems to be original. There is some oxidation that could be removed by sandblasting the press.it would look amazing if restored. Especially since the ornaments are rare on such presses. The book press is mounted on an unpainted heavy wood base 1 1/4 inches thick by 8 1/2 by 12 1/2. The cast iron press is painted blue which is quite worn. Two support posts on each side support a crosspiece with the company name embossed on it. The crosspiece in turn supports the large metal screw with turn wheel on top which raise and lower the press plate attachment. This is operational and can be raised 12 inches above the base. The top turn wheel is 5 inches in diameter with an interior three circle design to aid turning. The metal or wood press plate is missing. The metal base of the press is 11 1/2 by 7 1/2 inches. A trademark like logo on the back and a previous owners name in gold in the back. No chips or cracks. Some rust and wear to the original paint. Works good. Screw could use a little oil. Antique Ornate Cast Iron Dolphin Bookpress. Book Press, Book Binding, Letter Press I am offering for your consideration this extraordinary well sought after cast iron book press with mythical dolphins sitting upon fluted columns circa 1840. I was told this beautiful piece was found in the basement of an old Ohio printing company now closed. The only defects I can see on the piece are as follows: You can see in picture 7 and 10 that when the press is open the plate hangs crooked and in picture 1 when fully closed it does sit flush. Picture 6 you can see the embossed border of the base is not completely straight and there is a slight lift to the left corner of the base also seen in picture 6. Picture 3 and 4 shows minor pitting to the dolphin and picture 5 shows a divet in the edge all of these defects appear to be original to the piece and ... morewere probably defects in the molds. I have found no cracks or chips in the cast iron. The press area is 9" x 12" and opens 2 1/2" the press is 14" tall and the base is 17 3/4" wide and 11" deep and weighing about 50 pounds. The finish on the piece is a rusty brownish black and probably was painted at some time. Picture 12 shows the custom made padded out reinforced double box that the press will be shipped in that meets all shipping guidelines. Overall this is an excellent show piece for someone with interest or ties to the printing industry and its history. Need more pictures? Just ask. Faded scratched decal says Worlds Columbian Premium Awarded Chicago 1893 I looked it up it was On May 1. 1893, the gates opened at the World's Columbian Exposition. Also known as the Chicago World's Fair. Over the next six months. decal on front is intertwined initials I am guessing at C H B O. Weighs 66 pounds before packing. This book/ copy press is in Good Working Order Black paint is chipped. Scuffed and for it's age I think pretty good. tiny spots of surface rust But it is very very minimal. You can use this as is without staining or damaging your book. With a very nice design to it, with a nice embossed letter"G" on the front, smooth up and down motion of the tool when turned, but the major detail is that it is broken off from the plate, this needs to be fixed and put back together to get back to original working order to be able to raise the plate. Some rusting on the underside and on the plate usual with age. Light Rusting in other areas as well as scratching and wear, usual wear and age for an antique cast iron piece! Offered- A rather unique Book Binders Cast Iron Book Press. The Press is a really nice rich Dark Green- which I believe is original to the piece. The Green seems to have been baked on- it has a very rich look. The Press has nice brass ends at each end of the turning screw- and a brass"nut" that holds the screw in place. The exterior measurements of the Press are 16 inches by 10 inches. The interior measurements are 11 1/2 inches by 10 inches- this would be where the book is placed. The space for a book opens to a maximum of 2 1/4 inches- this would be the maximum thickness of the book. The Press Stands 14 inches tall. This is a very nice piece- a bit of scuffing and scraping to the finish- commensurate with its age.
