Restored, antique fireplace mantels salvaged from an old plantation home in Central Georgia. Each mantel is made entirely of red oak(no veneer) and dates back to the 1880's. The lower half of each mantel has a fairly straightforward design with a few accents including a turned. Tapered column on each leg; a carved starburst motif above each column; and chamfered edges on both sides of each leg. The upper half of each ... moremantel has 4 shelves(2 long and 2 short) a recessed panel in the center contoured with egg and dart molding and an oval opening for a mirror; 2 turned. Tapered columns with a carved plinth block in the middle; and a lovely crown with curved ends. Glass: One of the mirrors was missing. And the other had very little silvering left. They will need new mirrors(flat or beveled) which we could order and install for you. If you would like a bigger mirror, we could remove the whole panel(the area in between the ornate molding) and install a rectangular mirror. ANTIQUE VICTORIAN TILE FIREPLACE SURROUND in Karlson
The sale is for this gorgeous antique tile surround that was made by New Jersey tile companies in the late 1800's. It is in very very good condition and is comprised of 16 six inch squares made up of 32 tiles. there is some residual mortar and one tile has a few abrasions. The grape and vine tiles(6" square) are pictured on page 45 of Karlson's book AMERICAN ART TILE(the bible of American tile collecting) They have a very heavily raised design with a negative concave of the design on the reverse. They are attributed to the Providential Tile Company. The corner tiles are each comprised of 5 tiles. The center tile design(4.25" square) is pictured on page 47 of Karlson's book attributed to the Old Bridge Tile Company. They are surrounded by Triangular tiles made by the Trent Tile Company. Antique Fireplace Screen ART NOUVEAU Victorian Woman Print? Painting? Cloth Wood
This auction is for a very unique Fireplace screen. Not meant for while fire going b/c this is made of wood and cloth. I can't tell if it's a painting or a print. But it's definitely late 1800's, early 1900's. Great curled feet w/swivel base so you can position screen as you like. Acorn finials at top. I believe the back of the feet are flat so that you can place it flush against the hearth or wall. There are some scratches to canvas surface and there are sections where the canvas is pulling away from the wood mount. Has 2" tear along bottom edge as seen in pic. Back of picture shows some cloth loss and tears, but that is a light piece of cloth cover and not part of the canvas. Design depicts a beautiful woman with dark hair and large poppies in her hair. 63"x50" Antique Red Oak Wood Victorian Fireplace Mantel Mantle Stripped Restored
Penn Antique Restoration. 63"x50" Antique Red Oak Victorian Fireplace Mantel Exquisite. Antique, solid, red oak fireplace mantel salvaged from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mantel has an exquisite Victorian style design. Each leg has a round. Tapered, half-fluted column with round base and ornate capital. Notice the carved acanthus leaves on the capitals, and their reeded sides-what great accents! The body has lovely acanthus and volute motif in the center sitting atop a stepped ledge with dental molding. The crown molding, directly below the shelf also has steps and dental detail. Restoration: At the point of salvage. The mantel was covered under several layers of paint, and a thick layer of stain and varnish. The body is made up of 2 boards, and the 2 boards separated from each other at some point(see photos under"Prior ... moreto restoration" In order to thoroughly remove the paint. Stain and finish, we had to take apart the whole mantel. We hand-scraped and sanded each piece, and then put them back together with new nails, drywall screws, and boards on the back acting as stiffeners. Now, the mantel is stronger and sturdier than ever! We rejoined the 2 boards of the body. And most of the applied carvings are intact. However, there are some pieces missing including a volute. If you would like us to hand-carve and apply the missing pieces, email us for a quote. Condition: The mantel is in great structural condition. There are some cosmetic blemishes. Which we opted not to repair in case you prefer a more distressed look. There are chips, scrapes, and scratches in various parts of the mantel. The most obvious are shown in the"Close up" photos. The light scrapes and scratches will sand-out during the prep-sanding phase, prior to applying stain, or could filled with wood putty prior to painting. This is one of the most impressive mantle's I've had. At first I thought it was primitive but it's definitely Victorian and called Stick& Ball. It was for a drafting firm. Dentist office or school house as the little drawers have pencil/utility trays. Which I've photographed for you. It's actually 2 pieces. The bottom is a standard mantle front which we added a little interior lip to b/c our fireplace was a bit smaller. So you can fashion this around various sized fireplaces. The top section is a topper that sits on top and will need to be bolted/ affixed to the wall and rests on the mantle-top. The entire piece you are seeing here is 66" wide and 68" tall from the ground to the top ball on either corner. I see no detrimental damage to it whatsoever. It's clean and lovely. We are pleased to offer to the market this beautiful antique fireplace mantle. This piece has great character and dates to the Victorian era. This piece measures 82" High x 60 3/16" at the widest point and it has a depth of 10.5" The mantle back has the main center mirror flanked by two smaller mirrors with shelves on the sides. The front of the mirror has turned& reeded columns holding a shelf above it. There are attached cornice pieces above the two smaller mirrored sections that are topped with a stick& ball design. This same design is also found on the crest at the top center of the mantle. There are hand carved medallions and curliques on this piece as well. This is a gorgeous mantle that will definately make a statement in a room. There are age and use appropriate scratches. Dings, divets, cracks, repairs, and ... moreother marks on this piece. There are issues with the finish as well from being stored. Structurally the piece is solid and sound with no rot or losseness. It does appear that someone at some point had done some gluing on this. Late Victorian era cast iron fireplace opening surround. 27 3/4" high, 22 1/2" wide, inside opening is 16" wide. Foundry style number"40" in raised numbers on the back. Design is simple and geometric with a diamond shape center top, very simplified stylized flowers and foliage on either side. The little arms sticking out in the opening would have been for the summer cover to lean against. There is quite a bit of surface rust and quite a few old crusty coats of paint on this surround. The molding details will be much more obvious with restoration. This is a very rare pair of large antique victorian copper and brass fireplace andirons. made in mid to late 1800's they are made from extremely thick copper and brass and are extremely heavy. in a victorian style with exquisite detailing throughout. the base if footed with large routed ornate feet and the center has a heavily embossed female face and a fleur-de-lis underneath. it is very thick with bubble and floral trim. the base meets the large copper globe with a ribbed brass section. the globe shaped body is made from very thick copper and also is very ornate with demonic faces connected with hung fruit. This is an absolutely stunning pair of large antique ornate solid brass Victorian fireplace andirons. They are made from heavy brass and exquisite ornate detailing throughout. Footed with very detailed. Three dimensional claw feet and heavily embossed lion heads in between with beautiful scrolls completing the composition. The shaft is also very detailed and topped with a large multi-level brass finial. The back wood rests are made from solid cast iron. And have a brass plating on the top with a flame finial. Beautiful Antique Victorian Era Fancy Cast Iron Fireplace Front Pediment 19 lbs. I am still listing new items from Indiana. And have a boatload of new things from the flea market too. Lots of primitive antiques, farm finds, folk art, and the usual wacky Maureen stuff- you don’t want to miss this week! Here is a drop-dead-gorgeous Victorian era cast iron fireplace front for you- ready for your hearth or just beautiful decor. You won't believe the heavy 19 lb weight- and it's all cast iron. Too. This beauty has a lovely fancy scrolly design in the center, and it's most recent coat of paint is jet black. Sometimes black comes off looking a little grey with my camera, but it's jet black for sure. This is only one of many many coats of paint- you can see other colors where the paint is very shabby chippy worn- more so on the edges ... moreand highest relief areas- see photos 4-11& 14, but there's small spots of wear in other areas of the body too. The color before the black looks to be a buttery yellow(best seen in photo 4) On the backside as seen in photo 20, there's literally drips of paint from days gone by. The same yellow mentioned, as well as a rose color and light green can be seen) I don't know if that's paint layers from painting this front, or drips from the wall(which is what I think) but it's all part of the very cools story of this oldee! The many layers of paint have protected this beauty well, and there's very light surface rust in the spots where the paint is worn down to the metal- minor, especially for the age. It measures 27 3/4" tall and 18 3/4" wide. It's about 1" deep measuring from the back to the highest relief areas in the front. Each foot on the bottom has one screw mounting hole from when it was in place. It's dirty, and needs a good bath- I have not cleaned it in any way. It's in excellent solid and sturdy condition- built to last and oh-boy it has. What a treasure! At this weight, it will be expensive to ship to some locations,

With a brass plate over the top, and this is where the second is located. the brass has a great patina from age. one measures 22 inches tall by 9 inches wide by 17 inches back to front. there is slight ware to one of the back finials but facing toward the back it is hard to see. and some blacking on the back of the backs as well but will buff or clean up. great rare set. The lady depicted appears to be an artist as there is an artist's pallet and brush beneath her head. Maybe she is the one being painted became women artists were rare in that period. These low profile andirons sit directly on the ground and each measures 12 1/2" long x 2 3/4" wide x 6 1/2" high. They are in very good condition with no cracks and one has a rough spot on the top edge where maybe it wasn't cast properly. They exhibit normal wear from use with the log holders exhibiting some pitting. The figures are very clean and with what may be minor pitting or marks left from the ... moresand casting.
