Very nice pair of old brass ball andirons. Solid and heavy. The one arm or extension has been repaired with a sleeve of sorts and wiring around the arm. It is shown in photo 2. Nice repair job and very usable. I started to polish the finials(one on right has been partially polished) Would b gorgeous polished. Measure almost 18" high and the extensions are 14" The balls measure 11" around the ball. So they are on the larger size. The only identification I could find is what looks like 100K or R on the bottom of one of the arms. These came from an estate in Baltimore. We are selling in‘as found condition’ I wiped it off but it has not been polished. It definitely has a patina and a lot of spots where the shine is gone. The only issue to note is that on one side. The bottom sits off the ground a little bit so it’s not completely level. The distance off the ground at the back corner is ½” so it’s not off by a lot. This is so heavy so it has to have cast iron or brass iron and the sides and other places looks to have a bronze or brass underneath but can't tell for sure what it is. This item is very heavy. I provided a lot of close up pictures so you can see. Original Key still on top. No markings that I can find. Only the number 903 H on back The top crate can be removed. Just was wiped off-not cleaned-so all the original patina remains. Measurements: 24 1/2" w x 30" h. The rim is 3/4" thick. This is a wonderful vintage fireplace screen made of solid brass with intricate scroll work and details on both front/back and gorgeous cameo in the center. Approx 24” high. 38” across when fan is open. The base measures 10.5” x 7” This is a very beautiful. Old piece, dating back to the early 60’s, very heavy(14lb) The screen was used. One side of the base is darker than the other, probably from being exposed to the heat. Some wear consistent with age, please see photos for more accurate information. Vintage Hammered Brass 4 Fold Fireplace Screen - 52" W X 30" H
This fireplace screen came to me in 1979. I was told- at that point in time- that it was an antique. I do not have specific information about the origin of the screen. It was most likely made in New England.long before 1979. The screen is hammered brass frame with heavy black screening. We used the screen as a fireplace screen from 1981 to 1991. Since then it's been in storage. The screening is intact. As is the frame. There is one obvious ding in the top of the frame and one in the front of the frame. I'm not sure if that was from wear.or too vigorous hammering. There are 4 segments(13" wide X 30" high-each) that are linked together by pins that pivot in any direction. The screen can be straight. Folded, or just folded on the ends. In all- straight across- the screen could be 52" wide.and shorter depending on how deep ... morethe folds are. Thanks for looking!
