The brass is around a wrought iron core and there is a seam in the middle. The legs are solid brass with well defined spurs. It's really a wonderful piece. It's wing span is 38" wide& it is 2 foot tall. The feathers or you may call it a fan. Fold up into the brass casing for storage of 6.5" A note in closing. These are solid metal not like the newer made sets and their condition is a testimony to the sturdy design structure. Both functional and beautiful to behold. There is floral raised reliefs in addition to the Fleur de lis designs, overall hammered stucco texture of surface design. Antique French Rural Chic Fire Fender ~ Black with Brass ~ Cast Iron Foxes !
An unusual and very charming antique French fire fender. Dating from the early 1900s. with a black metal front topped with a brass rail and with hollow cast iron ends. each featuring a fox atop a decorative stand with swirly brass ornament. Although at first glance it seems the foxes are from the same mould. They are in fact different sculptures. with different body shapes and stances and on different backgrounds. A delightful detail. So as to fit a variety of fireplace widths. The fender extends by means of two bars and turn screws on the back and measures 70cm when closed and 87cm when at full width. It stands 11.5 cm high to the fox’s back. The brass knobs can also be moved towards the ends of the brass rail by unscrewing two tiny bolts at the back and rescrewing through two more holes in the base. I have done this to see which looks the ... morebetter. and I think it looks best with the rail extending a little as in the photos. A old piece. This is in nice vintage and functional condition although it does show signs of its history as is to be expected.The brass rail is very slightly bent upwards with a one or two dents and scratches in places.and the seam at the back is not fully closed all the way along. although this cannot be seen when in use. Please scroll through all my ten photos for details. Previously a little rusty I have cleaned up the iron parts with black lead grate polish and given the rail a quick going over with a metal polish. although not so much as to make it look like“new” A lovely antique fender. which will perfectly into any country house interior. in front of the fireplace or even as a decorative piece on top of a rustic wood burning stove. At a packed weight at over 2 kilos I am sorry but I can only post this to the UK or within the European Union. These are beautiful old fire dog that are very rare and hard to find. I recently bought it from an Estate. The knights are heavy brass beautiful work on these with cast iron for the logs to lay across on. They measure 16 inches long for the longs and the knights on the horses stand about 15 inches high in Brass.the longs would be on what looks like a cast iron. I do not know exactly how old. Because of their weight I am asking $49.00 in US FUNDS to the United States or in Canada. Arrangements can be made for pick up in the lower mainland of British Columbia.

Antique Brass Fire Fender ~ Queen Anne Style
This is a charming piece. The style is Queen Anne Revival? most likely early 20th century. It is in very good condition, left front corner has a slight dent.And the top bar on the centre front is loose it appears to have been soldered at on time. We have never found it to be a problem. It polishes up wonderfully as it is of a good quality solid brass. And the construction is of a good quality as well. By loosening the bolts on the bottom(see photos)the entire piece can be undone. The measurements are as follows: out side length 42 inches. Inside length 37 3/4 inches, the depth out side is 12 inches, depth inside is 9 3/4inches, and the height is six inches.
