This is an exquisite. Original Eastlake style cast iron fireplace tools stand. It is in wonderful condition and the detail work on this is just lovely. I have seen another like this that had excessive wear and the details were not as pronounced as on this one. Stands 24" tall. It breaks down into 3 pieces for safe shipping. Re-assembles with its original screw at top and nut underneath. Beautiful patina. Has a#36 casting marks on the back side of the vertical piece and also underneath. 19th Century Antique Gothic Arts & Crafts Andirons Fire Dogs Snakes Posset Cups
Up for auction are an amazing set of antique andirons/ firedogs. I was told by the person I bought these from that they were from the 1850's. They are definitely old and resemble andirons/ firedogs from the period of the Arts& Crafts movement. They each measure 32.5 inches in height x 24 inches in length and 15 inches across the base. There is no signature or hallmark on the andirons. It is possible these are older than the Arts& Crafts movement because of the possett cups. Possett was a popular medicinal drink from the medieval period to the 19th century. The andirons are in excellent condition and quite heavy. This is an early 20th C. pair of andirons. Tools, stand, and matching fender in the Arts& Crafts style. They are hand forged iron with shield, scroll, knife blade, and faceted ball motifs. Handwork is visible on every surface. I cannot attribute the set, and I can find no maker's mark. They do depict the medieval Arts and Crafts style, and quality, of the works of Arden and the Rose Valley Association, during that time period. If I had a fireplace in my home, these would not be for sale. This set is meant for a larger fireplace. So please check the measurements. The fender is 51.5"W, 10.5"H, and 12.75"D. The andirons are 20.5"H, 11.5"W, 21.5"D(13 lbs. each) The stand is 33.5"H, 12.5"W, and 8.25"D. The poker is 30.5"L, and the shovel is 28"L. There are areas where the original ... moreblack finish is missing and there are some specs of white paint. The andiron returns, and the remaining finish on the fender, indicate long term appropriate use in a fire place, but they are both strong and entirely usable. The finish could be restored if desired, and there are no repairs needed. We vacuumed the set with a brush attachment, but we careful to preserve the patina. We are pleased to offer this incredible. Very large. Pair of antique andirons. Dating to the early 1900s, this pair is crafted in the Arts and Crafts, Mission fashion and era. The pair have a nautical theme and feature a large, Spanish galleon or clipper ship as their focal point. This exceptional and exquisite pair are a combination of iron and enameld bronze/brass. The top section of the andirions are iron and feature the large ship which is encircled with decorative iron which gives them a medallion effect. A large, detailed leaf is the top finial. The center columns are a barley twist design in an enameled type finish bronze or brass as a magnet will not adhere to this section. The legs and feet are thick, forged iron as are the long, attached firedogs. This is a very rare pair with wonderful design and character. They are in very good ... morecondition for their age. They are structurally very sound and sturdy. They have an aged patina with some expected rusting to the iron. The andirions are VERY LARGE. Each measures 34" tall. These are early 20th C. Arts and Crafts owl handled fire tools with a matching stand. These sets are often attributed to Rostland Manufacturing Company. Milford, CT, but I am not sure of their maker. The stand is marked"651-1" MADE IN USA" The set is missing a brush that would have sat on the rear of the stand. The poker, tongs and shovel are 26.5"L, and the stand is 27"H with a 9.5"x7" base. There is significant oxidation of the finish from use in a fire place. Further, the stand's handle turns slightly, but this does not affect its use. The tools and stand are well made. DETAILS* These are a Lovely pair of Cahill Ironworks cast iron andirons with bronze and brass finish. They are is hand hammered. They are marked Cahill in diamond pattern and also have the number 82 on the back. I ... morebelieve the ANDIRONS are circa 1900, super Mission or Art& Crafts design, beautiful. Iron Cross like pattern decorates the base and moveable decorative handle of each piece. Cahills Architectural Brass and Iron Works was an ironwork's company out of Chattanooga, Tn. which was in operation from 1875 to 1922. They are 18 1/2 tall and 9.50" wide. Total depth is 19" with log holders. The top point and handles are brass finished, they contrast nicely against the bronze finish of the body, beautiful. The log holders are attached with bolt, will remove for packing. They will need to be reattached when you receive them. Easy to do. Finish shows light wear considering their age would consider condition very good, no rust on decorative piece's. Log holders do have light rust from use. This fine example of the skill and talent of the artisans of that time can be showcased on your hearth today. Included in this substantial handcrafted set is the fireplace screen. Andirons, tool holder with four tools and log holder/carrier with handle. In each piece the heavy yet intricate scrollwork and the artistic twist of the metal is repeated. The squirrels in the andiron design will be enjoying the acorn they hold to their mouths. The blacksmith who forged these squirrels has them perched with their famous bushy tails in full display. Very imaginative! The fireplace screen has handles on either side for ease of moving it. It is well-balanced with the scrolled feet projecting 5-inches forward and the stabilizers projecting 5-inches ... moreback. The screen is a heavy mesh and good condition for its age. There is one tiny disruption in the mesh as shown in the photo. The original blacksmith burnt oil finish still fills in a few openings in the mesh as shown in the photo. The log holder/carrier has scrolled edges and is supported on scrolled feet and the handle is movable. The tool holder is well-balanced and holds the brush. Shovel, poker and tong. A welded repair has been made to the shovel to support the metal which had fatigued over many decades of use. BRADLEY & HUBBARD FIREPLACE ANDIRONS Arts & Crafts Style B&H Style 9570
You are bidding on a really attractive pair of antique fireplace andirons by Bradley& Hubbard. Bradley& Hubbard was in business from 1852-1940. Though I am not exactly sure how old these are, they do seem to be done in the Arts& Crafts style. As you can see, they are marked B&H 9570, so that might help with the dating. What I do know is that these cast iron andirons have a really beautiful form, over and above their functionality. They measure approximately 12 3/4" high by 15 3/8" deep. Wonderful arts and crafts period andirons to dress up your fireplace. You can never lose with these as they only increase in value as there are less and less American Craftsmen to make them. Think about it for a minute. how many blacksmiths do you know? How many did you know in your lifetime? These are probably 100 years old. They are pre owned and used. And they have rust present. These bird heads remind me of Bradley and Hubbard products. If I find reliable documentation I will add this. I am still looking, I know they made griffons. Birds? don't know. These have welds. That tells me that they are not from say 1850. Was thrilled to get these as they are not the mundane simple type. These are expensive to ship as the dimensions are charged for as well as the weight. I don't want more than the cost of shipping and will give back any ... morethat is not charged. I also don't know where I am shipping to. We can work this out. Plan on $100. If it is less, lucky you! Then, you get some back! when a large package is shipped UPS, and it is bigger than they think the weight should be for that size, they have what they call billable weight. this is more than a little package of the same weight. T.hey are heavy Here is an example: I sent 18 lbs. to MA in a 20 by 20 by 30 box. I was billed for 68 lbs. because of the cubic feet it takes on the truck. Arts and Crafts Bradley Hubbard Andiron Pair
Bradley Hubbard Andirons in a classic arts and crafts style. Cast iron with a hammered iron appearance. Finish is combination of original black with some wear indicative of a pair of used andirons. Back arm stretch is more worn and a bit rusty. There are no cracks or breaks. Measuring in at 18" tall. 22 1/2" deep, and 8 7/8" leg spread. Photos include B&H logo marking(one is worn more than other) and concave back side reveals number 6927. I provided picture of square headed bolt that connects the two pieces and pictures of how the top ball can screw on and off front piece. This assembly can make shipping a bit more easy. Antique Arts and Crafts Syle Andirons
These beautiful Arts and Crafts style andirons would be the perfect addition to any fireplace. There is some slight surface rust which would clean up. Or merely wiping them down with oil would add to their patina. These have obviously been used and came from an old estate. They are made from cast iron and have an interesting relief cast into the base. It appears to be an Orthodox Cross. This is shown in the pictures. The andirons stand 18 inches high and are ten inches across the base. The crown is 3 1/2 inches square. The legs are 21 inches long. These are rather heavy weighing in at about 40 pounds.
