Old Antique Pottery Brown Stein or Mug Unusual Rare Design
This auction is for a old pottery mug or stein that has been in the family for many years. I do not know the age but it looks to be from the early 1900's but I am not sure. There is no maker mark that I cam find. Part of the bottom is finished and looks like there maybe be a mark under the glaze but I can't make it out. The design on the sides is very unusual. Leaves maybe? The clay looks to be a light orange. The size of the stein is approx. 4 3/4" tall and 3 1/4" across the top rim. The condition is very good for the age. There are no chips. This auction is for a unique. Vintage ceramic beer stein/mug made in celebration of 200 years of the American Revolution. It is elaborately decorated with the American Revolution scenes- Paul Revere on one side and Molly Pitcher on the other side of the mug. The scenes are made in raised colored majolica style with a great attention to details. The mug is glazed on the inside and outside. It is in excellent vintage condition. The sign impressed on the bottom of the mug reads"By Loraine 1976" The sign in gold on the side of the mug reads"Liisa" 1776-1976. Up for Auction is a vintage or antique hand painted stein or mug possibly made in Germany or Holland. I'm not sure about it's age or who the maker is. I do know that it was my grandmother's and my mother( born in 1945) said it was always a fixture in their house dating back to her earliest childhood memories. The letters PAM are engraved on the bottom of this mug. This Stein or mug is very charming and attractive with gilded areas around the top. Bottom, and handle. Great eye appeal! This item has a few very small spots where the gold and colored paint has come off but other than that it's in excellent shape with no visible scratches, cracks, or chips out of the material. It is 8 1/2" tall and a little over 5" wide including handle. Up for bid is an antique mug/stein/tankard. It is yellow ware which you can tell my the bottom. It was identified on line as a piece from 1885 designed with embossed acanthus leaves. It was bought at an estate auction with several other pieces of stoneware. It is in immaculate condition but is crudely made with pops and straw lines. However the glaze is shiny with no crazing and there are no chips or cracks. It measures 5" by 3 1/4" Nice piece for a collection. This is what I believe an old beer mug as it has the gold filament or whatever it is called around the rim of the mug and on the handle. For your consideration is an old Limoges. France stein/tankard/mug. It has the T&V Limoges France hallmark on the bottom. It stands 5 1/2 inches tall and the base is 4 1/4 inches in diameter. This was made and hand painted in the early 1900's. It is a shiny black color with golden leaves, vines and grapes. There is some texture to the gold designs. In the background you see pale green leaves and purple grapes on a creamy background. The inside is white. A small imperfection appears on the gold handle. There is a line that is not as smooth as the rest of the surface. It must have been done during the firing of the mug. I'm not sure you can see it in the photos. It is on the left side of the handle. Hand Painted Hanging RED CURRANTS w/GREEN LEAVES& GOLD SCROLLWORK, Artist Signed M. Luitje 1969 in the Victorian style While this tankard mug is unmarked by the manufacturer. It is truly beautiful and professionally painted in the style of the Victorian era. The tankard mug was painted by a very talented artist to be viewed from all sides. The artist signature is M. Luitje and it is dated 1969. The gold scrollwork is exquisite and is highlighted by the heavy gold ... morepaint on the embossed handle. While this tankard mug is classified as used. Its condition is superb. We can find little damage and only 1 small defect. The handle has a tiny bit of wear on the left side of its top. See photo#9. The 1/4 inch defect is a slip indentation on the bottom of the mug just under the largest cluster of red currants. This was done in the manufacturing process as it is painted over by the artist. See photo#8. There is no rubbing to the paint. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. It is clean& white on the inside. This tankard mug has a base of 3 3/8" and a top diameter of 2 15/16" It is 6 7/8" tall. As collectors ourselves. We tend to be very picky and find it necessary to point out anything we see. They became world famous for very high quality art pieces comparable to Pickard and Stouffer of Chicago, Illinois. The studio remained in operation through at least 1915. In the trade journal, Keramic Studio” Volume 9 1907 D’Arcy Studios advertised for“3 or 4 good china painters” for flower and fruit. Over the years associated with D’Arcy were such renowned artists as Frank Yeschek, John H. Schindler, Louis Groskopf, Joseph Gunther, and Josef Henke. While this tankard mug is classified as used.
