This highly desirable art piece signed by Rita Owen Hick. Is painted reminiscent of the true Flemish Masters. This captures a whimsical scene of two Friars or Monks, one who has imbibed too much and fallen asleep on the cellar floor amid the wine barrels, and the other Monk walking into the cellar, scoffing at what he has walked into. The details are so fine and vivid, the colors rich and precise, with the quality of this art piece being a treasure to behold. This is a family heirloom which belonged to my Great Grandfather. It was given to him on his 21st Birthday. The year 1894. Were the true beginnings of the Lenox company, and these pieces are extremely desirable, collectible and very rare. This stands 14 1/2" tall, with a 6 1/2" circumference at the base. Superb Limoges Mug, Factory Handpainted, Artist Signed, Ca. 1900
Description and Condition: This mug or small tankard was produced by J.P. Limoges. France, around 1900, give or take a few years. It is artist signed by a K. Ryboc. The mug is marked as shown, but there is also a very faint red mark almost not visible in the photo that indicates the mug was factory hand painted and not outside decorated as was sometimes the case. The artwork on this mug is truly excellent and is as good as the best game decorated piece done by Meissen during this late Victorian period. My photos don't do it justice, unfortunately. This mug measures 5 1/2 inches high, 4 1/2 diameter at the base and 3 3/8 inches diameter at the rim. The condition is this mug is excellent. Here is Vintage Antique Mug/Tankard Signed-W.H.Tatler of a Fox Hunting Group-Handpainted. This mug is 5 3/16" tall by 5 1/4" wide from the outer l;owed rim to the handle by 3 1/4" across the top outer rim by 4 1/8" across the bottom rim. The hand painted scene looks like a British group of men on a fox hunt with there dogs as seen in photo. The rest of this mug has a dark to light green moss look. The top rim and handle has a platinum or sliver look with some slight wear as seen in photo's. The base is marked as follows: W.H.Tatler of Corating Co. This mug is in Great shape with no chips. Cracks or flea bites except of slight wear along the rim and handle. The Tatler Decorating Company was founded in 1874 by Elijah Tatler. Who emigrated from England with his wife and son. A couple of years later, in 1876, Elijah Tatler ... moredied and the business was carried on by his wife and, later, his son, Edgar Elijah Tatler. Over the years the firm decorated wares made by such manufacturers as Ott& Brewer, Alpaugh and Magowan, Lenox, Inc. and Scammell, to name a few. After World War II it became increasingly difficult to compete against imported ceramics. In 1953 the business was sold to Nelson Lebo. Lamp manufacturers in Trenton, ending 79 years of family ownership of the W. H. Tatler Decorating Company. Payment is due within 7 days after auction ends.
