WESTERWALD "GR" TANKARD, LATE 17th, EARLY 18th CENTURY in BLUE & PURPLE
Up for sale is a simply magnificent. Late 17th or early 18th century"Westerwald" pottery/ stoneware, salt-glazed tankard, with applied"GR" King George) cypher/ rosette, and body with cobalt blue& purple manganese decorated throat. The vessel measures approximately 6 1/2 inches tall, with a 2 1/8 inch circumference opening. These vessels(as well as a myriad of other designs) were created in the Westerwald(Rheinland/ Pfalz) region of Germany beginning in the mid 16th century from my limited research, and were imported in large quantities to England, and of course, over time, many, many examples of this type of stoneware made their way to the American colonies. Numerous examples, both intact and in shards, have been excavated at many colonial sites on the east coast of the United States over the years during archaeological ... moredigs. This type of vessel would've most likely been utilized as tavern-ware, or as robust house-hold drinking vessel, typically for either wine or beer. The separately applied"GR" cypher, rosette) for King George, would be an obvious indicator of its vintage as well as its intended audience, and would place it, by its configuration and style, somewhere in the late 17th to early 18th century. It was found locally, in a 200 plus year old home, where it'd resided in an attic for many decades. It is in miraculously wonderful condition, and the cobalt blue and purple manganese colors are still quite vibrant. In addition to the"GR" cypher, there is an incised sun-burst design which surrounds it, as well as incised floral designs which flank the sunburst& GR" rosette on both sides. Additionally, the throat has incised horizontal lines, which are embellished w/ the application of the purple manganese coloration. On one side of the tankard appears a stylistic, incised number"6" which one would assume indicates the capacity of this particular drinking vessel. There are two oblong, almost football shaped depressions on the handle, which a
GENUINE Antique 18th Century English Salt Glaze Stoneware Mug Tankard with Scene
SEE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE* GENUINE Antique 18th Century English Salt Glaze Stoneware Mug Tankard This is a wonderful 18th century English salt glazed stoneware mug with an applied molded scene of five standing figures on a naturalistically modeled tree trunk forming the main body of the mug. Complete with knots, the handle in the form of a branch with a knot thumb piece. It’s decorated with blue and a medium brown on the outside with the inside done in a rich chocolate brown. There are some firing cracks from the manufacturing process where the figures on the front(which were molded separately. Then applied to the surface before firing) join with the main body of the mug. There are similar firing cracks where the handle attaches. These are not damages; it’s ... morejust part of the manufacturing. There are no chips or cracks, so overall it’s in very good shape. The figures most likely represent a known historical or literary scene but I haven’t researched it enough to know for sure. It measures about 4 ½ inches tall and about 3 to 3 1/4 inches across the mouth(which is a bit oblong. Not perfectly round, hence the varied measurement) Including the handle, the overall width is about 5 ¼ inches. The best way to describe this wonderful piece is with lots of photos. So please look carefully at all the images at the bottom of this page to see the item’s condition. If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to answer! It is from a smoke free home. PLEASE READ: Payment must be received within 4 days of end of auction. Shipping will be combined when appropriate: when packing together will not potentially cause damage or will not require a larger box(new post office rates greatly affect postage cost on boxes over 1 cubic foot) I can usually only combine shipping if

Antique Pearlware Painted Blue White Tankard Mug 18th Century
English Pearlware mug or tankard Hand painted blue and white pearlware Late 18th Century An attractive and solid antique. Late 18th century pearlware tankard or mug, likely from between 1770 and 1800. Hand painted underglaze in blue with a floral decoration. This English tankard was probably made in Staffordshire, Leeds, Yorkshire, or Liverpool, but could also be from one of the smaller ceramics centers in. Thinly potted with finely shaped handle. Light weight, as is common with 18th century pieces. The pooled glaze shows its real blue, cobalt color. Unmarked, as these items for everyday use were almost never marked. Note that some of the photographs with this listing were taken with flash. Some without flash, so the ones with flash look lighter. Good condition. Used but solid, with nice appearance, testimony of a long life of a simple but ... moregood quality object. It has what appears light and even discoloration. One small chip on the inside of the rim, see photographs. No cracks or hair lines. Some very fine crazing of the glaze on the inside. The glaze feels a bit thin from use at the rim. The part of the base where it touches the surface on which it stands shows signs of wear. No repairs. Height: 3 3/4 inches/ 9.5 cm Maximum Width: 4 1/4 inches/ 10.8 cm Total weight: 5.70 oz/ 160 gr Shipping and insurance: Buyer pays exact shipping costs and insurance. 18TH CENTURY TRANSFERWARE MUG 'THE BACHELOR' 'OLD MAID' UNIQUE!
When held as though to drink from it. One is looking at the image of an'old maid, dressed in her cotton bonnet and a draped collar on her dress. Turn the mug over though. And the image changes into'the bachelor. a not too attractive fellow wearing a sort of turban head gear. The mug is a delicate one. Not in fragility, but it is not a thick mug, and is quite fine and lightweight. It is a deep putty color and has the finest crazing I have ever seen. The finer the crazing. The darker that area, and it gets lighter towards the top, perhaps because the hot liquid disappeared faster from that area. And maybe sat longer in the nether regions of the mug. Both images are contained in a decorative wreath that has a bow at the top and bottom. The handle is generous and comfortable to hold, and has a little rim on each side. Kind of like'piping. ... moreExtremely old and in miraculous condition for its age. If one looks down on it from above. The mug is of a very small irregular shape. Which is quite endearing. Most likely from Staffordshire in the mid eighteen hundreds. Should you wish to combine items. Please notify me prior to payment. Thank you.

ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE 17TH/18TH CENTURY GERMAN SALT-GLAZED STONEWARE DRINKING MUG
This antique primitive German salt-glazed stoneware drinking mug is circa 17th/18th century. It has a pleasing. Mottled mustardy brown/gray color. There are nice raised ring details around the upper and lower part of the mug. The ring handle is a little crooked, which just totally adds to its character. The mug measures ~4" high x 4" wide. Including the handle, with a 2 1/4" diameter mouth opening, and a 3" diameter base. It is in good condition overall, with some minor chips around the perimeter of the mouth opening and the base. 18th Century Liverpool Mug, Charming Putti Scene, Good Condition For Age.
Description: This mug is a classic example of 18th Century Liverpool ware made for export. To allow maximum shipping quantities. These mugs were very thin walled and therefore could not stand up to the abuse of even semi-intoxicated drinkers. Somehow, some have survived to this day. This mug measures 4 inches diameter and is 4 1/2 inches high. It is has a straight-sided cylindrical body, and is not tapered as the photos make it seem. I am not sure what the putti scene is all about. But judging from the dread on the little goat's face, could they be preparing to roast him on their fire? Condition: The good side of this picky report is that there are no hairline cracks and that the interior is very clean(ignore the shadows of the photo of the interior) The transfer decoration of the putti is also excellent. All the following issues are ... moreshown in the photos. The mug has losses to dark red banding around rim and on one side of the edge of handle. There is a 1/16 inch deep chip on foot rim and a couple of small glaze losses on rim. There is a fine light crazing overall. But this is barely seen if at all when viewed normally. Payment. Returns and Shipping Policies: Please pay by paypal within 24 hours of winning the auction. If you need more than 2 days to pay. Please let me know. Important: I do not end auctions early out of consideration to all bidders! I will accept a return as per eBay's 14-day return policy. 18th Century German Faience Stein dated 1781
This fine example of an 18th Century German Faience Stein is 7 3/4" by 5" in diameter and is decorated with 4 colors in a floral design. The engraved pewter hinged lid includes the name"Johan Fincke 1781" The inside of the lid is stamped twice each of which includes the name"Krontin. There is some roughness around the lower edge of the lid. The mount of the lid is very firmly attached to the handle. The sculptured pewter ring at the base can be rotated slightly but is otherwise tightly attached to the base. The pottery of this stein is in very good condition with only a few chips in the white glaze at the edges of the handle and at the base under the pewter ring. There is also some minor wear to the glaze where the lid meets the top of the stein. The inside glaze shows some slight crazing and some staining. There ... moreis a painted letter"B" under the glaze on the stein's base. This is a very nice example of an 18th Century German pottery Stein that has been very well cared for through the years in our family. If you have any questions please contact me.
