Antique Leeds Peafowl Green Spatterware Sugar Bowl w Lid Pearlware
Here is an early 19th century green spatterware footed sugar bowl. With a charming hand-painted four color peafowl on the front and back. With the lid on, it measures 5 1/2" wide and 4 1/2" tall. The lid is decorated with black scrolling branches, which match those on the bowl. In very good condition. The flange on the lid was invisibly restored and expertly done in my opinion. The particular peafowl on this bowl is reminiscent of one called"Dr. Seuss. documented and discussed on pp. 148-155 in the recent book, Feathers and Foliage: The Life and Times of the Pearlware Peafowl by George and Mickey Deike.
