I have for you this evening a nice example of Limoges porcelain that is unmarked but the molded dragon handle and them make it unmistakably of French made origins and made in the Limoges region around the turn of the twentieth century. This nicely hand painted piece is artist signed"Anne B Coppel-10" The artist had better than average skill and the whimsical portrayal of the medieval bar keep speaks to her talents as an artist and for her sense of humor as well. the rosey cheeked bar keep is eyeing his mug of ale and appears to be making a toast. The most outstanding part of this mug is its high quality porcelain body and dragon handle which projects out from the body of the piece in a most fantastical manner and gives this mug an unusual profile. Gorgeous antique porcelain beer tankard hand painted and artist signed from the turn of the century. Stein has the popular dragon handle decorated in dark forest green with gold tongue and claws. Top of mug has wide gold gilt band followed by white band with hand painted scene of toad smoking a long pipe and reading his newspaper with a cup of coffee. I have for you this evening a stunning 13" tall tankard made in Bavaria and hand painted as well as artist signed R. Schulz who may have been a Stouffer or Pickard studio artist given the style and execution as well as the expertise of the painting. This piece is made of very nice heavy grade porcelain and has a claasic pitcher style mold design with a unique handle design. This gorgeous piece is has been masterfully painted with red raspberries over a mint green and pink blush glaze with amazing foliage all accented with raised enamel paints to give added depth and tactile interest to an already incredibly beautiful piece. Antique Hand Painted Victorian Mug F.W. & Co 1800's Artist Signed
This is a beautiful Antique Victorian mug circa 1800's. It is unique as it is hand made and hand painted. There are wrinkles in it near the base. Please see pic and it is uneven! The artists mark is on the bottom( a red c) it also says F. W. Co( which is the F. Winkle Co. from Stoke on Trent, England) it has a R No 219409 and England& DART and something embossed in a rectangle I can't make out. A lot of marks for a cup/mug. It is a work of art, beautifully hand painted, you can feel the dots on the inside of the flowers. It is in very nice antique condition. No chips, there is a small crack on the inside but it does not go through to the outside, it may just be a crack in the glaze. Its condition is superb. We can find little damage and only 1 small defect. The handle has a tiny bit of wear on the left side of its top. See photo#9. The 1/4 inch defect is a slip indentation on the bottom of the mug just under the largest cluster of red currants. This was done in the manufacturing process as it is painted over by the artist. See photo#8. There is no rubbing to the paint. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. It is clean& white on the inside. Here is a very well-decorated. Artist signed old porcelain mug from Limoges France. It was a 1906 Christmas Gift to M. Ries. It measures approx. 5-3/4"H x 5-1/2"W to handle and 3"D at rim. The handle is exceptionally done to depict a green dragon. Over the entire mug are vines, berries and leaves done in Autumn colors of golden, brown, rust and green on the white porcelain. The rim is trimmed in gold. There are some minor signs of wear in the gold trim and on the handle. The entire piece is in excellent vintage condition; no chips, cracks, repairs or discoloration. LIMOGES JPL TANKARD MUG Hand Painted Cranberries JP Pouyat Signed by the Artist
JEAN POUYAT Limoges. France, Hand Painted Cranberries w/Stems& Leaves circa 1890-1932 The Pouyat family was one of the oldest French names associated with the porcelain in the Limoges region dating all the way back to the 1700’s. Jean Pouyat began a company in 1842 at Limoges and the business was carried on by his sons after his death in 1849. About 1883, the company became known as La Ceramique. The now famous JPL backstamps were used beginning in 1851 and the specific one that is on this plate is called mark#5 by Mary Frank Gaston in Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition which was used starting in 1890 and continued until 1932. William Guerin Companies merged with JPL in 1912; this was further acquired by Bawo& Dotter(Elite Works) in about 1920. The JPL mark was still used at the former Pouyat factory until ... morethe company closed in 1932. While this tankard mug is classified as used, its condition is superb. This is a beautiful tankard marked ROSENTHAL. Hand painted and signed by SHONER. This artist. Whose signature is on page 66 of the COLLECTOR'S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PICKARD CHINA, worked for Pickard Studio from 1903 to 1910. This tankard seems to be a piece he decorated outside the studio. But it reminds us of the pieces belonging to the POPPY AND DAISY collection that he painted at Pickard's(see page 171 of Encyclopedia. The piece is 12" high and the base has a diameter of 6 1/2" and the distance between handle and tip of spout is almost 8" The tankard is decorated with Art Nouveau style Poppies and Daisies on an iridescent background. The elegant scroll shaped handle is heavily gilded and so is the edge of the opening. The mug is marked as shown, but there is also a very faint red mark almost not visible in the photo that indicates the mug was factory hand painted and not outside decorated as was sometimes the case. Jean Pouyat Limoges Tankard Mug Poppies Gold Artist Signed FREIBERG
This beautiful tankard made in Limoges. France features white and pink poppies on a pastel/green background and heavily accented with gold. It is signed by the artist, FREIBERG, beneath the top of the handle and again in gold on the bottom of the tankard. The bottom is also stamped with the no. 5 Jean Pouyat underglaze mark in green. Both lid and bottom of jar are hand lettered in red with the number“18” Possibly signifying that this jar was a limited edition. It is interesting to note that part of the original label is still attached to the underside of the lid(see photo) however there is not enough of it left to read. Dimensions: Measures 4” in diameter at its base. And stands approx. 5” high. Condition: Good vintage condition with no chips. Cracks or repairs. Limoges JPL Jean Pouyat Mug, Stein, RARE Dutch Children Scene - Artist Signed MG
Beautiful Jean Pouyat Limoges France antique mug or stein dated 1909. This mug has a hard to find scene with dutch children and a scenic dutch background with a windmill. I have no books but looking online I can find nothing remotely similar to it. The bottom is artist signed M. G. Dated 1909 and imprinted in the white has the number"559" with a"1" below that and the JPL mark that was used c. 1890- 1932. This mug has approx. measurements of 5 1/4" high, 4 1/4" across the bottom, 3 1/4" across the top, and 5" from outside handle to opposite side. This is a used and antique piece over 100 years old. It is not thin and dainty porcelain- the mug is very heavy and solid. The inside is very clean and I see no crazing. Chips, cracks or stains. The outside painted scene is in really nice condition and simply ... morebeautiful. The main flaw that I could see is in the solid darker green colored parts of the mug. On the handle and on the very bottom around the edge(dark green) there are some very small dots of color loss or paint wear. Other than that I can find very little wrong with this piece although there may be other small spots of paint loss or light scratches in other areas. No chips, breaks, repairs, cracks etc. The bottom of the mug does have some wear around the edges and maker's flaw of some extra colored spots. Please look at all of my photos as they are the main part of the description- I've included ones from every angle.
