Early Staffordshire Childs Transfer Mug SEASONS August Wheat c1840
800x600 Early Pearlware Child's Mug THE SEASONS AUGUST Staffordshire England c. 1840 This is a superb child's transferware mug made around 1840. It stands 2 ¼” tall and 2 ½” across the top rim. With a turned shaped base and applied handle. Transfer printed in black finished with pearlware glaze. The central image features the month of August, depicted as a farm family and child gathering wheat surrounded by abundant farm land. The center of the cup includes the verse: THE SEASONS– AUGUST The bending ears their load sustain. Their clustered stores of golden grain. The mug made as part of a series featuring the months and seasons of the year. The central image. With a slightly different border, is shown in the book Gifts for Good Children written by Noel Riley and published by Richard Dennis. The mug hails from the Staffordshire ... moreregion of England. Although it may have come from one of several Northern factories. The mug has no maker's mark. Plates and mugs with images like this were made in the early to mid-19th century to be given as gifts for a special occasion or rewards of merit and were also used to aid in the education of young children. The cup is in good overall condition with some issues. A hairline descends the side behind the handle. A fleabite on the top rim, discoloration consistent with prior use and age. No other chips, cracks or repairs. The transfers are clear and crisp with intricate detail and whimsical styling. The mug was made with great attention to detail. This tiny transferware mug will make a gorgeous addition to any serious collection of early children's wares and would be a fabulous gift for a farmer or someone with a child born in the month of August. 1940s BURLEIGH WARE England BURGESS & LEIGH HAND COLORED TRANSFER ~ MUG TANKARD
Here is a Vintage hand-colored Burleigh Ware Tankard/ Mug(Burgess& Leigh) Made in Burslem, England, c1940s. The company began creating pottery with hand-colored transfer patterns in 1940. This is an older piece of that pottery. The tankard is in exceptional vintage condition. No hairlines. Chips, cracks or repairs. Really fine. There is slight discoloration around the inside edges of the interior base circle, which may be removable. Everything else here is mint. I did not try to clean the piece as I do not want to alter the vintage condition in any way. The Hallmark is the beehive mark. C1940. The scene is labeled Old Coach House- Woolhampton. The art was created by transferring the pattern to the tankard. And then individually coloring the pattern by hand. There is also a hand-painted green stripe around the lip and down the center of ... morethe handle. The 24 oz tankard is 5 1/4 inches high. 4 1/2 inches across the base and 3 1/4 inches across the top(excluding the handle) Discounted Shipping is $4.25 USPS Priority Mail to US; Discounted Shipping is available to Canada for $10.55 USPS 1st Class International and $19.75 USPS 1st Class International to other countries.
