Up for auction is a wonderful Jean Pouyat Limoges mug. It is painted with a wonderful floral motif and is in excellent condition. There is some minor paint flaking on the bottom that can be seen in pictures 5.6. The piece measures 5" tall and is 4" across the bottom. It is signed CSA and dates Ca 1895. Offered is a Beautiful Antique Limoges Tankard/Chocolate Pitcher-Signed Olga Sorensen-Needs Restoration. This lovely vase is 11" x 3" and was hand painted by Olga Sorensen. I have found some information on this accomplished artist which I have listed below. The item is cracked all around but is stiff a beautiful piece and with the right restoration could be brought back to it's origninal beauty. Please contact me with any questions. All sales are final. A widely known artist, was about to sail from Cherborg, France on the SS Reliance to visit her sister, ... moreDr. Margaret Sorensen, and brother-in-law, Ove C. Schlanbusch, of Nanticoke. Departure was expected on 6 August and arrival in Nanticoke about 15 August. Miss Sorenson had an enviable reputation as an artist. With paintings in the Spring-Salon, Paris. She had also won special mention and favorable comments from French, English and American newspapers. In the summer of 1923 she had made an extensive tour of Brittany and Normandy, and had produced a number of landscapes and canvasses on the journey. The best local exhibits of her work were the painted stained windows at the courthouse, which were drawn by and Italian artist and painted by Miss Sorensen. She was also the artist of the soldiers' memorial Window erected in Kingston ME Church. A native of Denmark. Miss Sorenson came to this country at an early age and settled in Nanticoke. She recieved an early education in the local schools and later studied at Drexel Institute and NY Art Exchange Building in Wilkes barre, Pa. but left several years ago to continue her study abroad. I have for you this evening a nice example of Limoges porcelain that is unmarked but the molded dragon handle and them make it unmistakably of French made origins and made in the Limoges region around the turn of the twentieth century. This nicely hand painted piece is artist signed"Anne B Coppel-10" The artist had better than average skill and the whimsical portrayal of the medieval bar keep speaks to her talents as an artist and for her sense of humor as well. the rosey cheeked bar keep is eyeing his mug of ale and appears to be making a toast. The most outstanding part of this mug is its high quality porcelain body and dragon handle which projects out from the body of the piece in a most fantastical manner and gives this mug an unusual profile. The stein measures 5 1/4" tall x 4 3/8" at the base and 3 1/4" at the rim. This Antique. T&V Limoges stein is in absolutely fantastic condition. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs and there is no crazing. Over-all the stein shows only very light wear, typically isolated to the base and with very limited wear to the gilding on the rim. It is a beautiful Limoges hand painted cup. Possibly a shaving mug, with roses and gold trimmed rim and handle. Signed on the bottom T&Y Limoges France. The porcelain is so sheer you can almost see right through it. The painted roses are so delicate and beautifully done. They are not signed so we can’t say who the artist was. It measures about 3.25” tall x 3” in diameter. Not counting the handle. It is in very good condition with some wear to the gold on the rim and handle. There is a spider web mark on the bottom but it does appear to be perhaps only a stain on the crazing on the glaze as there is no sign from inside the cup. There is a small pit mark right there so it looks like it was just dirt that seeped in during it’s long lifetime. This wonderful mug would be great addition to any French Limoges antique pottery ceramic home decor accessories collection. For your consideration is an old Limoges. France stein/tankard/mug. It has the T&V Limoges France hallmark on the bottom. It stands 5 1/2 inches tall and the base is 4 1/4 inches in diameter. This was made and hand painted in the early 1900's. It is a shiny black color with golden leaves, vines and grapes. There is some texture to the gold designs. In the background you see pale green leaves and purple grapes on a creamy background. The inside is white. A small imperfection appears on the gold handle. There is a line that is not as smooth as the rest of the surface. It must have been done during the firing of the mug. I'm not sure you can see it in the photos. It is on the left side of the handle. I am only pointing it out to be accurate in my description. There are no stains, crazing or chips. A few scratches appear near the ... morebase. It bears the JP over L France makersmark that was used between 1890-1932. It is hand painted with diffrent types of grapes on the vine with fall colored leaves. Here is a very well-decorated. Artist signed old porcelain mug from Limoges France. It was a 1906 Christmas Gift to M. Ries. It measures approx. 5-3/4"H x 5-1/2"W to handle and 3"D at rim. The handle is exceptionally done to depict a green dragon. Over the entire mug are vines, berries and leaves done in Autumn colors of golden, brown, rust and green on the white porcelain. The rim is trimmed in gold. There are some minor signs of wear in the gold trim and on the handle. The entire piece is in excellent vintage condition; no chips, cracks, repairs or discoloration. There are some other letters but too faint to read. The decal on the side shows a Monk with his mug of beer. This is 5" tall by about 4" across the base and about 2 3/4" at the open top. Sitting in my china closet since the 1950s tho I do believe it is from the early 1900s. I see no chips cracks or repairs. A few slight rubs to the brown paint on the base. A spot of paint at the top that was in the making. Postage in the USA is $9.00 via USPS. The postal rates keep going up and it is challenging to guess correctly. JEAN POUYAT Limoges. France, Hand Painted Cranberries w/Stems& Leaves circa 1890-1932 The Pouyat family was one of the oldest French names associated with the porcelain in the Limoges region dating all the way back to the 1700’s. Jean Pouyat began a company in 1842 at Limoges and the business was carried on by his sons after his death in 1849. About 1883, the company became known as La Ceramique. The now famous JPL backstamps were used beginning in 1851 and the specific one that is on this plate is called mark#5 by Mary Frank Gaston in Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition which was used starting in 1890 and continued until 1932. William Guerin Companies merged with JPL in 1912; this was further acquired by Bawo& Dotter(Elite Works) in about 1920. The JPL mark was still used at the former Pouyat factory until ... morethe company closed in 1932. While this tankard mug is classified as used, its condition is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. It is clean& white on the inside. The mug is marked as shown, but there is also a very faint red mark almost not visible in the photo that indicates the mug was factory hand painted and not outside decorated as was sometimes the case. The artwork on this mug is truly excellent and is as good as the best game decorated piece done by Meissen during this late Victorian period. My photos don't do it justice, unfortunately. Antique Limoges Art Nouveau period Stein Tankard made by Tressemanes& Vogt of France circa 1892-1907. This Large tankard is hand decorated with an image of a"Mucha" inspired woman adorned with grapes and grape leaves. This particular tankard is hard to find but this motif can be more easily found on plates and other porcelain pieces. If you are a collector of this pattern then this may be your chance to get this highly desirable motif in tankard/stein form. Beautiful burgundy red, yellow, purple, green and gold colors. The background of the tankard is a light yellow with the interior of the stein being a glossy white porcelain. The base of the stein has a raised textured decoration. Antique hand painted porcelain tankard or mug marked"GDA France" on the bottom. GDA stands for Gerard. Dufraiss& Abbot, this mark is C-5 and began use by Haviland in 1900. The tankard is white inside, the exterior background color is very light yellow with hand painted peach colored roses, green leaves and vines highlighted with gold. The top of the tankard behind the roses is gold. The tankard measures approximately 5 1/8 inches tall, 3 1/4 inches in diameter at the top rim and 4 1/8 inches in diameter at the base. JPL Hand Painted Limoges Woman Mug Tankard Stein signed M. Buresova 1926
Very interesting large tankard. Stein that was given to my family approx. 35 years ago by a Czech family. It is a woman who appears to have some type of head dress on painted in reds, yellows& blues on a white background. The inside glaze is almost a pearl gold-mustard color. The mark on the bottom is J.P.L. France& Hand signed by M. Buresova in black paint& dated 1926 12/12. The rim midway between the front painting& back handle has 2 very small darker spots that are fully glazed but slightly pitted- no larger than 1/4" This appears to be part of the original firing. The tankard is quite large& holds 2 1/2 cups. No international shipping.

The decoration—a lush display of ripe plums and foliage on a tree—is painted with rich colors: olive and grass green. Teal, smoky blue, purple, magenta, and tan on a background of aqua and cream. The plums and leaves look very three dimensional and almost jump off the side of the mug. I’ve looked but cannot find an artist’s signature. Note how the handle has been charmingly sculpted to resemble a twig. The beer mug measures 5 inches tall and about 4 inches across the base. Which spreads out a little as you can see in the photos. The opening at the top is a little under 3 inches across. The mug is in very good condition with no nicks or flakes to the painted image, and the gilt rim at the top is also in fine condition. ... moreThe little spots on the back of the handle appear to be tiny flecks of gilt or paint. There is a hairline scratch on the plum farthest to the right, which is barely visible to the naked eye and shouldn’t show when the mug is displayed. Under magnification I also see several tiny spots of white on the dark green base, which appear to be from the way the paint was applied. All these flaws are consistent with the mug’s age and do not detract from the beauty of the mug; I mention them only for accuracy. This is truly a striking display piece. Please look at all the photos which are intended to complement my description. On the bottom is the JPL/ France mark. JPL was the mark of the Pouyat Porcelain family. Who manufactured porcelain at the Jean Pouyat porcelain factory in Limoges, France, for decades. Pouyat porcelain was known for its fine texture. This beautiful tankard made in Limoges. France features white and pink poppies on a pastel/green background and heavily accented with gold. It is signed by the artist, FREIBERG, beneath the top of the handle and again in gold on the bottom of the tankard. The bottom is also stamped with the no. 5 Jean Pouyat underglaze mark in green. Both lid and bottom of jar are hand lettered in red with the number“18” Possibly signifying that this jar was a limited edition. It is interesting to note that part of the original label is still attached to the underside of the lid(see photo) however there is not enough of it left to read. Klingenberg was an accomplished Limoges artisan painter when he opened his own porcelain factory and decorating studio in the Limoges region of France in the early 1880's. There does not seem to be a surfeit of information ... moreabout Klingenberg or his company other than that he merged with Charles Dwenger's studio sometime in the late 1890's or very early 1900's. Klingenberg& Dwenger together manufactured porcelain products. Produced decorated finished porcelain pieces, and exported them world-wide until 1910 when the company closed its doors. While there may be a paucity of detail about A. Klingenberg and his company, there are numerous astonishingly lovely works of art that this short-lived company left behind.
