The gilding is somewhere between an antique silver and pale gold. It is very attractive. The piece is not marked. Size: 3 3/8"d X 5 3/4"w X 4 1/8"h approx. dimensions Quantity: 1- Shaving Mug Condition: VERY GOOD- no chips. Cracks or crazing. There is light wear- gilding on top edges is mostly worn off, a little wear to the floral design(15% there a few rust spots on the interior. There are pin dots bubbles and a few impurities in the cup(manufacturer flaws) Other than needing a thorough cleaning- it's a great piece to collect and display. I always pack items carefully and am happy to combine shipping. When possible and refund difference in costs after packing. I list items that are in great, usable condition. The exception would be an item so beautiful or rare that still has value as a decorative object. It is from ... morea time when shaving was much more of a chore than it is today. Hot water was not available from the tap. People had to pump the water from the well. Boil it on the wood burning stove, then carry it to the bathroom& put into the bottoms of shaving/scuttle mugs. Hard soap was placed on top of the mugs, the excess water drained through the holes into the base. Excess water was poured out through the scuttle mouth. A shaving brush was dipped into the hot water& then the brush was rubbed against the soap creating a hot lather for shaving. The scuttle mug being sold here has a garden scene with pink& white flowers on the front. There is embossed Victorian scrolling on both sides. There is gilding on the edges but much of it has worn off. The garden scene is in very good condition. There are no cracks or crazing in the porcelain. There are 3 tiny chips on the inner lip of the scuttle mouth where shaving brushes were dipped into the water. The mug is not marked. It measures approximately 6" 15.2 cm) wide& 4" 10.1 cm) tall. This auction is for a Lovely Antique Victorian Porcelain Shaving or Barber Mug made by Kamla of Germany. It is beautifully decorated in a Vibrant Orange-Brown at the top. A cluster of Pink flowers on one side and a single pink flower on the reverse against white porcelain and gold accents The piece is heavy and thick and in very good condition. Especially for its age, which I believe dates to the late 1800s. Three are chips or cracks or damage and the colors and images are clear and bright. It is a beautiful Limoges hand painted cup. Possibly a shaving mug, with roses and gold trimmed rim and handle. Signed on the bottom T&Y Limoges France. The porcelain is so sheer you can almost see right through it. The painted roses are so delicate and beautifully done. They are not signed so we can’t say who the artist was. It measures about 3.25” tall x 3” in diameter. Not counting the handle. It is in very good condition with some wear to the gold on the rim and handle. There is a spider web mark on the bottom but it does appear to be perhaps only a stain on the crazing on the glaze as there is no sign from inside the cup. There is a small pit mark right there so it looks like it was just dirt that seeped in during it’s long lifetime. This wonderful mug would be great addition to any French Limoges antique pottery ceramic home decor accessories collection. Victorian Porcelain Souvenir Soup Shaving Mug For My Old Man Gold Lettering
vintage presentation piece in good condition Large Porcelain Mug Souvenired"For My Old Man" maker unknown large size suggests soup or shaving mug Welcome to Simpler Times Antiques! Here today for your consideration we're pleased to offer this very large vintage porcelain mug with souvenir or presentation lettering in gold which reads"For My Old Man" Judging from style. Appearance, and lettering we believe that this may be of German origin and expect that it dates from around the turn of the Twentieth Century, and almost certainly prior to World War I. Our mug is of porcelain and stands about 4.75" tall. Diameter is just a fraction over 4.75" across the rim not including the handle. It's a big mug, ideal for a large serving of hot soup or for holding your old man's shaving soap and brush. We rather ... morebelieve it was intended as a shaving mug, but can't state that as a positive fact. Embossed motif about the mug's exterior consists of a series of cartouches or scroll work panels which you might expect to frame lettering or some decorative design. In this case, however, the lettering simply spreads across the body of the mug with no respect to the embossing. Bottom marking includes two indistinct green letters as well as some incised numbering which did not assist us in identifying a maker. Mugs of this type were popular souvenir and gift items around the late 1800s and early 1900s and are commonly found with lettering to denote a name or date. This is only the second we have ever seen with this lettering which we suspect may be rather unusual. It was discovered recently in the estate of a local lady who was a rabid collector of antiques and Victorian collectibles. A close look here shows this item to be damage free. We found no chips. Cracks, or repairs. We found no visible crazing of glaze, no hard water film, and no stain or discoloration. Guaranteed to be original and as described- Antique old late 1800's to early 1900's very RARE hand painted Occupational signed porcelain Newsroom/ newspaper shaving mug. The scene depicted is a clerk setting the type getting ready for the printing of a the daily news in on the paper. The mug is signed on the side W.E Morris and the base is signed" National Barber's supply Co. The mug is also signed underneath the glaze in blue with what looks like two letters. This is hard to make out looks like the letter" G" and another letter with maybe other letters. The base of the mug as you can see is also signed with the numbers" 1302" signed in gold gilt.SIZE: 3 3/8 inches high by 4 3/4 inches wide from the handle to the lip of the mug. VERY RARE UPW MARKED MUG. FABULOUS! For those unfamiliar with the Union Porcelain Works. Here is a museum-worthy example, a shaving mug the likes of which cannot even be compared to others because there are virtually none to be found. The UPW company existed in Greenpoint, N.Y. from the middle 1800s to the early 1900s. Its museum is in Brooklyn on Eastern Parkway. The mug is a true collector's item. This piece was likely made for shaving since it has been personalized with the name Joseph White in gold. The porcelain is heavy ... moreand generously decorated. Seems to be hard paste, still rings when tapped. Hand painted beautiful roses and other flowers and leaves decorate the outside done in the style of Sevres, Meissen, and other high end producers of the era. Mark is pictured on the bottom and there is an impressed number 1 also there, no other markings. Condition, except for significant wear to the gold, is excellent. RARE! Antique old 19th c BILLIARD PARLOUR OCCUPATIONAL porcelain Shaving MUG
This wonderful shaving mug was decorated by August Kern Barber Supply. St. Louis per the fired stamp on the underside. It originally belonged to J. W. Banfield who was obviously quite the billiards player. This mug has a lot of fine detail. The gilding on the upper and lower rims. The name and decorating is all original bright gold. There is some wear from use where his thumb rested at the top of the handle and rim as is expected from a vintage treasure like this. The fracture on the bottom is under the glaze and was done during firing. The photo with the shaving brush is for scale and is not included in this auction.
