This cathedral style mirror is one of a set of two. Each has a gold colored wood and gesso frame. Shaped with leaves and flowers. The mirror itself is in very good condition. The frame has had some restoration at the bottom, hard to see unless you look very closely. These pieces are great for decorating. As they add dimension to a space and make it seem larger. When placed at an advantageous spot you can reflect light from a window, adding extra light as well. Antique Gold Gilded Deep Round Mirror 19th Century Colonial Williamsburg Style
Exceptional old round mirror in wonderful condition without damage. There is not even any missing decorative gesso. The only minuscule crack I noticed is shown in pic#5 and is certainly in the category of normal for a piece this old. My guess is that it is from the late 1800s up to maybe 1920. Although I am not an expert. Most of my estimate of age is based on the patina of the finish and aging of the wood on the back. The paper dust cover is old but I am unsure if it is original. I know nothing about judging the age of mirrors so I don't know if it is original. There is a short faint line in the glass upon close inspection. The widest point is just over 23" the raised rim on the front is 21" in diameter, the mirror is just over 16" wide and the frame is 4" thick. The gold is more of a matte finish than the pictures, ... moreas the flash of the camera added some brightness. Antique French wood and gold gesso mirror, style of Louis XV
This mirror is just in from France. The frame is made of a dark chestnut wood with an oval gesso inset that frames the mirror. There are large gesso cartouches at the top and bottom of the mirror. The frame dates from the beginning of the 20th century. The mirror part is a recent addition. The style is Louis XV. The piece is in very good condition with as only flaw a slight separation at two of the corners of the wood frame. Obviously time has played with the wood and it is no longer a seamless fit. The mirror has great appeal and the wood has a wonderful patina. It is quite a remarkable piece! This rare antique beauty comes to you from a barn of antiques in Vermont that I am auctioning off for a friend of mines parents who passed away(Please see some of their/my other items on my page) Although I am uncertain of the exact age. This vintage piece comes from sometime in the early 1900's as do all of the pieces I am selling. The mirror is striking, beautiful, and magnificent when you first see it, just as you saw it for the first time here. It both commands you and invites you to look at it. The corners of the mirror come with Victorian Woodland Finials while the top of the piece features an elegant but not gaudy wood carving. The dimensions of this piece are as follows: 48" tall x 25" wide. The gold has an aged look and there are some spots here and there where the paint has worn away. Especially on the bottom edge(see pictures 9-10) which gives it a slightly shabby appearance. One area where the gesso has chipped off on a petal(bottom left, picture 8) Also an indentation in the wood to the right of that(manufacturing flaw- picture 8) Apart from that everything else is in good shape. Up for auction is a lovely vintage Italian unsigned mirror recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. It is a nice large size. 16 x 21" The frame is a taupe or off white, but somehow looks a little pink in these photos, but is not. It is a pleasing light taupe or off white with gold rope and edging and bow. It is in good condition, the mirror however almost seems older with the condition issues of losses. It is loosely fitted in the back with a supporting strap of wood but the mirror is loose and moves in the frame. Regardless a very lovely mirror like we've not seen before from some kind of molded then painted pulp paper mache but very thick and sturdy.
