Exquisite Antique Figural Woman Hand Mirror~Portrait on Glass~Fine Detail~
This is just a stunningly beautiful antique hand mirror found at an estate sale. The metal looks to be brass. But not sure, and is heavily engraved on the handle, and even the edge of the mirror. I'm not sure what to call the woman's portrait. The black part is all glass, and it is completely smooth where her figure is, so I do not know the correct term for how the image is displayed. The total length of the mirror is 12 3/4" The widest part of the mirror is 4" The front of the mirror is beveled, and has some little scratches and some silvering to the mirror. The side with the woman has some little scratches. There is one tiny part to the left of her that almost looks like a tiny silvering also? The metal has some tarnish/oxidization to it. The long handle part is loose, and will spin around. Also possible that the handle ... morecould be slightly warped. I don't see a maker's mark anywhere on this. I purchased this beautiful extremely fine needlepoint hand mirror while living in London. England in 1996 at a fine antique store. I was told it was rare and a very good example of its type of the period. I cannot find the receipt with the date of origin. It has had a plastic cover over it. And it removed it to photograph it. It is in very good condition, and there is only some slight discoloration(that might be able to be removed depending on the cleaner you use, I was afraid to attempt it) on the face of the fabric, where the plastic did not cover the entire fabric. It is about 9.25" Long and the round portion has a Diameter of about 5 1/8" Most likely it dates back in time to the period of the 1920s to 1930s and features pretty Pansies with soft green leaves. In full blossom. There are 2 photos of the mirror portion. One was taken outdoors and is reflecting Geraniums growing nearby; the other was taken indoors and is reflecting a textured ceiling panel. I'm not sure which gives a better view of the mirror so I posted both here. Unfortunately. There is a large horizontal crack running across the porcelain at about the center. It runs across the area of the Yellow Pansy. On the mirror part in the bevel, right near the metal edge, there is what appears to be a small discolorated area. You can see a fairly good enlarged close-up in last picture. I don't think it is cracked as it cannot be felt to the touch. I think it is some sort of little discoloration behind the mirror glass. All that being said. It still makes a beautiful addition to an Antique or Romantic Period Setting. Please do not

Colorful hand painted miniature painting depicts a strolling couple. The miniature measures 4 1/4" X 3" Tinted rose glass features a beautiful rose gold colored floral back etching. And is secured by three florets. The glass has some small back spotting areas but overall a very clean, clear mirror. Condition is superb with no cracks. Breaks, or problems of any kind. Looks like a tulip, lightweight wooden frame. Greenish hue to the bevel glass mirror which has simple age wear and wear to the glass from being rested face down over many years. LARGE Hand Blown Clear/Pink Glass Murano Venetian Wall Mirror - Italy post 1940
This gorgeous Venetian mirror comes from Murano. Italy. The surrounding floral accent and long faceted borders are hand blown and hand decorated. They are exquisitely designed to reflect the maximum amount of light. The petals are a darker opaque shade of pink while the leaves are lighter pink and transparent. The Venetian winged lion is featured prominently in a top middle panel. The whole mirror is very large measuring 58" tall and 37" wide. This is a one of a kind mirror in mint condition. Mirrors in China were made from metal alloys, a mixture of tin and copper called speculum metal that could be highly polished to make a reflective surface as well as mirrors made of polished bronze. In China, artisans began making mirrors with the use of silver-mercury amalgams as early as 500 A.D. However. It was only during the early Renaissance, when European manufacturers perfected a superior method of coating glass with a tin-mercury amalgam, and later during the 19thcentury, silvered-glass, which became the basis of the modern glass mirror.
