Antique Oval Small Mirror Frame Bronze Brass? Very Heavy, Ornate, Foundry Mark
This is a very old and very heavy frame. Probably made in the late Victorian era at the end of the 19th century, or the very early 20th century. It is marked on the back 217 and in another place it looks like NB+NY- not sure about this mark, the second part is hard read. Might be NV or even IW. I believe it is bronze or brass. I have seen this frame in a larger version many times in cast iron, and those are heavy, but this one is REALLY heavy. You may have seen frames like this that are usually a foot tall or more. This is a little guy. Only 9" tall and 8" across. The frame has been fitted with a mirror which is newer. There are 3 little tabs that more easily on the back. And you could replace the mirror with glass and use it as a picture frame if you wanted. I think this frame probably had an easel-back at one time so that you ... morecould use it on a table. This is a very unique antique mirror or it could be a picture frame. I got this at an estate sale. The lady was 102 and still living. They had to put her in assisted living. She had a house full of antiques, how old this mirror is I do not know but by the looks of everything else I would say very old. I do not know what the metal is. It is very heavy, it weights over 8 lbs. so it could be cast iron? I just can not say because I do not know for sure. I was told that if a magnet stuck it was iron. The magnet sticks. This Victorian gilt gesso framed mirror came from an auction in Vermont. The auctioneer dated the mirror to 1880. The mirror. Itself, has a beveled top edge, so, I am not sure if it is original to the frame. The frame measures 24 3/4 by 21 3/4 inches. The red velvet border has wearing all around. Each corner of the frame has some gesso lose, please see all pictures. The mirror is heavy. It weighs almost 12 pounds. There are cracks in the gesso all around that can only be seen on close examination. There is wear to the frame. The glass has some light marks. It is a wonderful mirror. It is made from thick/ solid bronze and is extremely heavy with a wonderful patina from age. it is a very high quality piece doubling as a mirror and has two arms in the front which hold two candles as well. the arms are connected to a very ornate stylized female face which is very dimensional and sits off of the mirror. the candle holders. Antique large victorian heavy bevel etched glass wood mirror needs TLC
Large antique mirror. Has nice reverse etched glass design on top. Nice wood design. As you can see in pics. some of the design is broken on the top. And a piece is missing from the bottom. Most of the mirror silver surface is gone from the middle. Not in the greatest of shape, but a nice looking antique piece with great detail. Some mirror paint touch up and this would look great. Measures 34 9/16th inches tall, 17 1/2 inches wide at the widest point. Mirror is big and heavy and i pack very secure, so shipping will reflect that. The mirror is deep set so you have two narrow shelves for utilizing display pieces. Made of solid hardwood with a plywood backing stapled on. There is a portion of the extended wood piece on the top right side that broke off toward the backing(shown in close up photo) It was originally hung by wire that connected to nails on either side however the wire is thin and no longer able to hold this heavy mirror securely therefore brackets will be needed for wall hanging. If adding your own brackets you could hang horizontally or vertically. Hanging it horizontally can hide the broken area) It appears to have been painted or heavily stained years ago. Around the edge of the mirror glass. There is decorative indentation of the wood frame that is then surrounded by a large rim that is pressed out. The mirror is very clean and very easily cleaned. Antique Vanity Standing Easel Hanging Mirror Wood Frame Beveled HEAVY & OLD
Antique Beveled Standing Vanity Mirror For your consideration. Here is a lovely piece from days gone by. This heavy mirror, including its wood frame, measures 11 1/4" wide x 9 3/8" high. There is a 1/2" metal band which swings around three sides; this acts as the easel or alternately to hang the piece. The two upper corners have a decorative metal adornment; it appears there had been matching ones on the lower corners in the past, but they are gone. Each side corner of the frame has 1/2" wide metal"L" shape brackets. One upper corner of the frame is broken and a former owner deftly made it work long ago with a cool very old wing nut. Also, a small portion of wire was installed at the top for hanging. Mirror is very old and will probably need re-silvering. It measures 22 inches by 34 inches. This mirror is very heavy and weighs in at 26 lbs. Offered from my mother's estate is an Antique 1800s Oval Beveled Mirror with wood harp 24x30 heavy oak wood. This was once on top of a dresser that my great grandmother had from the latter 1800s. I believe it is solid heavy oak wood. But it could be mahogany. Looking at the harp which I call the long bottom piece with the broken foot, the wood is dark color all the way through. That may be due to aging. The Mirror is in wonderful condition also very heavy. The piece that broke from the foot included. No hardware other than shown. Antique Walnut? Heavy Cheval Tilting Full Mirror Brass Castors & Hardware
I am not an antique dealer but I do love antiques. This mirror was in a very exclusive. High end women's boutique and it is very heavy. The mirror is beveled and has some silvering loss but I think that just adds to the charm of the mirror. It is in very good condition and still has a lot of life left in it. Overall the measurements are: 72 1/2" tall 31" wide. Including brass hardware 18 1/2" deep I think it is walnut. But whatever wood it is, it is solid! The finish is dark and yet you can see the grain. Lots of detail. The casters/castors are brass and roll well and the hardware it also brass. Originally I think there were some spacers between the mirror and the stand but I do not have those but I thought some little wooden wheels might work there if you thought it was necessary. The underside of the tray has a deep red velvet type material. This is a very heavy old mirror in a wooden frame. It measures 16-1/2" x 12-1/2" x 3-1/4" in size. The wood is a dark grain. I'm not sure what kind it is. The back is old and crumbles if you pull at it so I did not take it on. It is in place with nails. I would replace the wire before I hung it as it is kind of brittle. There are some blemishes on the mirror as shown in the photos. It is clear, not foggy, but has some crackling to the background but it does not affect the use of the mirror.
