Vintage Cast Iron Solid and HEAVY Fireplace Irons Tools With Stand NICE
These REALLY look like brass. But a magnet sticks to everything, so I am assuming it is cast iron. They are at least from the 70's, because they were in my Mothers house for at least that long. They are very heavy, and solid. Of course, there is some slight surface rust and signs of age, but no damage or abuse to call. I think they will clean up beautifully! The poker is a little bent, but nothing that cannot be straightened if it bothered you. The stand's handle unscrews, from the base, so I will separate it for shipping. That should just about do it! It is rare that a complete Arts and Crafts antique fireplace set remains intact and together as this one has! This fine example of the skill and talent of the artisans of that time can be showcased on your hearth today. Included in this substantial handcrafted set is the fireplace screen. Andirons, tool holder with four tools and log holder/carrier with handle. In each piece the heavy yet intricate scrollwork and the artistic twist of the metal is repeated. The squirrels in the andiron design will be enjoying the acorn they hold to their mouths. The blacksmith who forged these squirrels has them perched with their famous bushy tails in full display. Very imaginative! The fireplace screen has handles on either side for ease of moving it. It is well-balanced with the scrolled feet projecting 5-inches forward and the stabilizers projecting 5-inches ... moreback. The screen is a heavy mesh and good condition for its age. There is one tiny disruption in the mesh as shown in the photo. The original blacksmith burnt oil finish still fills in a few openings in the mesh as shown in the photo. The log holder/carrier has scrolled edges and is supported on scrolled feet and the handle is movable. The tool holder is well-balanced and holds the brush. Shovel, poker and tong. A welded repair has been made to the shovel to support the metal which had fatigued over many decades of use. Andirons: 18 pounds each. 24-inches high, 14-1/2 inches wide at the base, 8-inches wide at the widest part of the oval, oval frame is 1-inch thick, firedogs are 21-inches long and 1-inch square in thickness. Fireplace Screen: 16 pounds. 40-inches wide, 32-inches high, frame is 5/8-inch thick, the handles are 5-inches long. Samuel Yellin style fireplace fire place tools are wonderful. Three tools and the dog head holder are the same style. The broom. Shovel and tongs all have etched designs on the handle. The doghead holder has wonderful detail that my photos don't show well. The detail is on the head and down the mail rod/body of the dog head. The four feet are made to look like feet. The dog's tongue sticks out of his open mouth and does not lay on the bottom of his mouth. There is a poker that was purchased with this set, but does not have the etched design. It is a twisted iron design. The total weight of these tools is approximately 30 lbs. I don't know what metal these tools are. They might be brass but are definitely iron. Gorgeous English Brass Fireplace Tools and Fire Dogs Dated 1882
This fabulous set of fireplace tools with matching fire dogs was made February 6. 1882(according to the British Registry marks on each of the tools and on each of the fire dogs) They are neo-classical in form with some Jacobean elements. The handles of the tools are draped classical urns with ring and baluster turnings in the approximate centers of each rod. The tongs have flat strapwork elements below the handle and at the tong ends. The shovel has keyhole shaped blade which is beautifully engraved with a patera, drapery and flowers. The fire dogs have animal legs and paw feet supporting classical urns and drapery. All the tools and the fire dogs are in superb original condition with no damage or notable scratches, etc. All are made of solid brass and appear to have been very lightly used in their 132 year existence. Such an unusual set of fireplace tools made of cast and hammered bronze(brass? pieces attached to hammered wrought iron poles. With stamped brass and/or copper at he end of the brush and shovel. There is"200" and"254" stamped on two of the cast bronze pieces but there is no makers mark, so I can't say when or by whom they were made. They sure seem to have some age to them and they are in fantastic condition with a great aged patina throughout. This groups of pieces weighs nearly 10 lbs. and stands 32 1/4" tall. RARE Ant. FEDERAL PERIOD Brass ANDIRONS Matchg TOOLS JAMBS Chippendale Fireplace
DESCRIPTION– Estate fresh and rarely found Federal period(1790-1830) brass andirons with matching tools and tool jambs. They have double urn tops and finials with beaded banding above round columns that sit on spurred cabriole legs with hoofed or slipper feet in the Chippendale style. Most likely a New York or Boston foundry. The former owner was told these were by Richard Whittingham. Since I am not an expert in this area I am selling them as Federal period. CONDITION– They are in very good and sturdy condition with age related wear. There are possible old areas of repair/reinforcement to the ends of the iron dogs. A tear to the edge of the shovel, and a separation or repair to one of the log stops. The brass needs to be polished/cleaned. In the photos the legs may appear splayed out as they sometimes get. They are not splayed. MARK– Could ... morenot find any signatures or markings. SIZE- The andirons are 18 3/4” high and 18 3/4” deep to end of dog. The tongs are 34” and the shovel is 31.5” The tool jambs are 3 1/4” wide x 3 1/4” tall x 4 1/4” deep. I am offering these for local pick–up/ delivery or shipping arranged by the buyer. They measure approximately 12-13" and have some wear, scratches and soot marks, but otherwise we are in good working condition. Please see photos to determine condition for yourself. Vintage 1970's - 32" Tall KNIGHT in Armor Fireplace Tool Holder w 2 Tools JAPAN
This is a 32" tall. To the top of the battle ax, Knight's Armor, cast aluminum, fireplace tool holder. It is marked, molded in the metal on the back"MBC Japan" and is probably from the 1970's. It has two of the original fireplace tools but is missing the third piece, probably the broom. This is lightweight, though fairly large because of the cast aluminum and the knight is dimensional on the front and sides but hollow on the back to allow room for the tools to hang. It has a 6 sided metal base that measures 10" wide at the widest and seems very stable unlike traditional fireplace tool holders that have a tendency to fall over when you put the tools in them. The knight has a little black pain loss on the back where the tools hang. The shovel part of the tool set has some rust on the bottom and the poker is slight ... morebent and has a little rist also. Both pieces have lost their goldtone finish on the handles from use. This will be sent partially disassembled for better shipment and all screws or parts will be taped to the area that it goes to. Vtg Set Virginia Metalcrafters Dolphin Andirons Brass & 3 Fireplace Tools Rare
From a recent estate sale. This is a fantastic brass and wrought iron fireplace set made by Virginia Metalcrafters. They are signed in the back of the andirons under the wrought iron dogs. They are done in the stylized form of dolphins. The main dolphins are brass and the smaller dolphins are cast iron. Even harder to find are the original tools. I have 3 of the original tools with no stand. They also have stylized dolphins that perfectly match the andirons. I have not found the mark on the tools, however, I am sure they are correct for the set. Someone tried to polish an area at the bases of the brass andiron dolphins. No actual damage, the fronts of the andirons can swivel partly as well.
