Antique Celluloid 1895 Vanity Easel Hand Mirror - Incredibly RARE!
You are sighing with delight at the sight of this extremely early celluloid vanity easel mirror. The back reads Pat Jul 9 1895. And a stamp above it reads Celluloid Patented Feb 5 1878. The mirror has a wide bevel, telltale of its age. The mirror is loose and could use solid attachment. The celluloid frame measure 8 inches wide, 9 inches tall. Handle is 5 inches and the width is 6 inches. the mirror glass is BEVELED I have owned it for many years and have yet to find one that is even close to looking like this one. I have gone through every inch and can find no information where it is from and who made it. I took it to Rague's in Lambertville New Jersey, they are the Antique Road Show Auctioneers. It measures with the handle 13 and 1/2" tall by 5 and 1/2" wide by 3/8" thick. The glass is beveled. Scrolling feather and a floral wreath run up the pedestal with a garland of flowers trailing up the sides of the stand frame. Very decorative old hand mirror with organic floral Jugendstil/ art nouveau design on both sides. The silvering on the mirror is disappearing around the edges of the mirror but the glass is intact and original. Quite heavy. But I did not find any silver or hallmarks, so I assume the material is perhaps silvered pewter(Zinn) A couple of minor scuff marks and one tiny ding in the edges of the frame, it is in remarkably good condition. The monogram"M" is in the middle of the backside of the mirror and it appears as those someone tried to clean this area based on some rub marks. The design is really beautiful and the fact that the design is on both sides of the handle and frame make this unique, I think. It weighs 13 ounces and measures 10-1/2" long and 6" wide. The mirror is 6" long and to the bottom of the handle measures 13 1/4" The widest part of the mirror measures 5" There is minimal discoloration on the handle. The mirror is in excellent condition. It looks like there is a hard plastic protective covering on the top of the cloth rose design. And looks as though it was taped to try to keep it in place and that has shrunk a bit over the years All in All this is a very nice hand mirror in good condition. A great addition to any collection.

This Lovely Antique Hand Vanity Beveled Mirror is another Great Estate Find. It is about 9.25" Long and the round portion has a Diameter of about 5 1/8" Most likely it dates back in time to the period of the 1920s to 1930s and features pretty Pansies with soft green leaves. In full blossom. There are 2 photos of the mirror portion. One was taken outdoors and is reflecting Geraniums growing nearby; the other was taken indoors and is reflecting a textured ceiling panel. I'm not sure which gives a better view of the mirror so I posted both here. Unfortunately. There is a large horizontal crack running across the porcelain at about the center. It runs across the area of the Yellow Pansy. On the mirror part in the bevel, right near the metal edge, there is what appears to be a small discolorated area. You can see a fairly good enlarged close-up in last picture. I don't think it is cracked as it cannot be felt to the touch. I think it is some sort of little discoloration behind the mirror glass. All that being said. It still makes a beautiful addition to an Antique or Romantic Period Setting. Please do not
