The flower petals and leaf are delicate and highly defined. It has survived longer than a century in beautiful condition. There are no chips or cracks on the front. And it sits sturdily on its flat bottom. Most of the marble is still its original creamy white. There are no stains, but the bottoms of some of the petals are slightly darkened from soot. Go back in time to the 1800's and you will find this wonderful decorative cast iron Fireplace Screen taken from an old brownstone house in Brooklyn N.Y. It was too beautiful to leave behind. Very charming design of a female wood nymph in her garden. The frame is beautifully etched to compliment the center design. There is a backsplash with small carvings above the shelf. The shelf itself is curved and trimmed in beaded molding. The legs have carved wreathes and bellflowers. The breast has a carved corbel in the center with great carvings to either side. The carvings are wood. I did a couple of test scrapes as there are many coats of paint. Lovely Ornate Queen Anne Oak Mantel 1895 Architectural Salvage
Wonderful. Ornate Queen Anne Victorian oak mantel. Top is arched, with each end having design, sits on panel with relief and scrolling leaves at the sides. Below corner blocks with bulls eyes. Top shelf connects to mantle has smaller detailed supports with turnings leading to an oval that is full of little squares supporting a smaller shelf on each end. One large beveled mirror(33" w X 19" h) in the center, flanked by two smaller bevels(8-1/2 h X 6-1/2"w) on each side. Center has appealing raised medallion. Antique Style BRASS Tile HEAVY Fireplace Trim Architectural Salvage Restoration
I am not positive as to the age of this tile. But I believe it dates to the turn of the Century(circa 1900 to 1910) 5 1/2" Square; I believe it is made of brass. a magnet does NOT stick to it anywhere) The back also appears to be made of brass. The middle(viewed from the side) appears to be a metal color, but I could not get a magnet to stick to it. There are 2 lips, or edges, on opposite sides, so as to perhaps slide this into a track. In good condition; there are a few white marks that may be paint drips(another one that I have had wax dripped into it) I believe the function was trim around a fireplace, a mantel or perhaps in a kitchen.
