American Brilliant Cut Glass info: This type of glass was produced to compete with European lines being imported into the United States. Early pieces were often unmarked so consumers wouldn't know the difference between American and European wares. Marked pieces of American Brilliant cut glass are prized by collectors with the names Hawkes and Libbey being familiar to most seasoned antiquers. Marks on cut glass can be difficult to locate and read. Identifying older. Quality cut glass can be confusing to the novice collector. It’s wise to do thorough research before paying high prices to add pieces to a collection. The American Brilliant Period in cut glass history began around 1850 and lasted into the early 1900's. Immigrants helped supply glass houses in the United States with skilled cutters allowing them to develop a product rivaling European cut glass. When American manufacturers displayed their wares at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876, their clear, bright, leaded glass garnered new respect when compared to glass exhibited from other countries. This Wonderful American Brilliant Period Cruet is made out of very thick. Fine quality glass, it is decorated with deeply cut hobstars& fans, it has a crystal clear applied glass handle, and the stopper is beautifully decorated with at least 100 small facet cut surfaces. This Cruet has nice weight at 1 1/4 pounds. It measures 5 1/2 inches in height to the top of the stopper, by 3 1/2 inches in diameter across the widest portion of the body, the Stopper measures an impressive 3 1/8 inches in length, and both the cruet and the stopper are signed with a Libbey acid-etched manufacturing mark. The Quality of this Cruet is Excellent and it has seen very little use, there is a tiny nick where the handle is attached to the neck. The Stopper has just a couple of tiny nicks on the 100's of facets(please see photos) and that's it, both the cruet& stopper are in really nice condition, the glass is super shiny& bright. And there are no heat checks in the handle. The caps are marked for Sterling and one shaker is marked for Hawkes with the Trefoil mark. They are both in good used Estate condition showing normal age related wear. One shaker is slightly cloudy. There are no major chips. Cracks or major damage. There is a tiny bit of roughness. The caps are marked Sterling and have a repousse scroll pattern. Please view photos of the actual shakers you will receive. Hawkes cut glass was made by T.G. Hawkes& Company of Corning. New York, founded in 1880. The firm used cut glass blanks made at other glassworks until 1962. Many pieces are marked with the trademark, a trefoil ring enclosing a fleur-de-lis and two hawks. McKee Cut Glass Innovation Design American Brilliant Period Sugar Creamer Set
You are bidding on a beautiful creamer and sugar set from the McKee Glass Co. Innovation Design line of cut glass. Both pieces are covered with a variety of cuts and designs. There are many areas resembling caning. They each feature wheel cut 12 petal daisy flowers with cross-hatched centers. Wedge cut leaves and they have saw tooth rims. The design cuts are deep and well defined giving this set a beautiful brilliance. Each piece has a 16 point starburst on the bottom. They are not signed and although they are not mint they are in good condition for pieces this old. There is some visible light wear to the bottoms. The creamer has a small scuff to the handle and the handle has been cracked and apparently glued(which I didn’t even realize until I felt the area) Please see photos. There are also about 6 areas where there are tiny etchings outside ... morethe actual etched area(see photos) I really don’t know anything about this glass cutting process and so I don’t know if these are mistakes or just part of the process. The sugar bowl has one tiny scuff mark near a handle. Both pieces have a few tiny nips but no other cracks or chips and no stains. The sugar bowl measures 4 ¼” round. 3” high, 7 ¼” handle to handle and weighs about 18oz. The creamer measures 3 ½” round. 3 ¼” high, 6 ¼” handle to spout and weighs about 18oz. Antique ABP STERLING RIM CUT GLASS PITCHER Tankard Silver AMERICAN BRILLIANT Offered for sale is this antique cut glass pitcher with a repousse sterling silver rim. It is nicely cut quality glass. Note the triple cut handle. The sterling silver was made by J.F. Fradley of New York City. Please excuse the reflections in the pictures. SIZE: The pitcher is approximately 11.5 inches tall. It weighs 3 pounds 8 ounces. CONDITION: There are a few tiny flea bites on some of the raised sharp edges of the cuts. There are some wear scratches on the bottom. The glass is mostly clear except for some faint water marks on the inside. That I have not tried to clean off. There is a small ding to the silver rim- the pen is pointing to this in the close up picture. MARKS: The silver is marked as shown. I am happy to offer this marvelous American brilliant cut glass syrup. It is just 3.5" high. And it is cut in the strawberry pattern. It has tarnished silver plate fittings with floral accent. When I bought this great piece, there was a handwritten note inside it that said Higgins and Seiter, which was a well known china shop in NYC until 1915. This is just a beautiful set. You will receive 1 Pitcher and 4 Tumblers. This is from the America Brilliant Period. So 1800's to 1914 period. This is heavy Cut Glass. The pitcher has no chips or cracks. 1 Tumbler has a small chip at the bottom base(pic 9) and 1 Tumbler has a mark inside the glass at the top, you can't feel so its a flaw in the glass(pic 11) It has the pattern"hobstar" The handle has been applied to the pitcher, it has the flat part on the handle for your thumb. It just sparkles like crazy. The pitcher measures 10" tall and the tumbers are 4" tall. I've looked over each peice and have identified the flaws that i can see and feel. Early American Brilliant Period cut crystal pitcher. Circa 1870's. Note: This was very early in the ABP period. As very skilled cutters were inexpensive at that time. This pitcher is very richly cut. The cylindrical body tapering to the neck. Applied upturned handle. 11 3/4" Height x 6 3/4" Handle to Spout 5 3/4" Diameter at Base Fluoresces under black light. The cutting on this piece is finer and more elaborate than any we have seen. DS#4149-11 Flaws: Handle apparently cracked when applied to pitcher at the top. Crack does not go through the glass. Small chip on one tooth(see red dot in photos) Age appropriate wear on base. But no fleabites. No other damage found. Excellent Condition overall. Here is a Beautiful crystal pitcher in the Harvard Pattern. This is an American Brilliant Period cut crystal pitcher.The octagonal little squares on the pitcher just shine with lustrous brilliance. When the light hits it. It shines like a shining star. The outer rim is done in the thumbprint style and there are double thumbprints on the handle. This is such a nice elegant pitcher, the photos don't do it justice. Condition: No chips or cracks. The glass is clean and clear. Because of its age. There appears to be no wear and tear from inspected. However there is a small manufacturing imperfection at the bottom of the pitcher; a short, miniscule line of bubbles. Shown in picture.
