This Deliciously exquisite ... moreand most unusual item is simply a delight. And a genuine curio of the Victorian era. It was clear that a fine lady would need to protect her treasures from potential light fingered servants, however it seems there was also a need to ensure her expensive perfumes were not being surreptitiously dabbed on the neck of the housemaid and it must have been derived from the“Butlers Enemy” the drinks“Tantalus” first shown at the great exhibition, that the idea of combining a version of this with a lockable jewellery box must have come, hence allowing both valuables to be displayed whilst at the same time protecting them from use by the staff. It is unclear when the first of these were made and how widely they were used and for how long they were popular, clearly nowhere near as widespread in use as their counterpart the drinks Tantalus which is borne out by their rarity today. This example is stunning and in really very nice condition, it consists of four cut glass(probably Bohemian) perfume bottles themselves in lovely condition with only a couple of flea bites on one of the stoppers to fault them. The jewellery box opens at the top with lockable hinged double doors which also secure the bottles in the Tantalus; the doors also have superb bevelled glass panels to allow the jewellery below to be viewed. Inside there are three red leather lined compartments two of which have red leather covered tilt-top covers and are silver embossed with the words in old English script“ Hair Pin s” the central compartment is open. There are a few scuffs and minor age and use related marks to the leather but these are only very much what you would expect, indeed require of a used item of this age. There’s a secret drawer“there is always a secret drawer” particularly with the better pieces, this is where you keep the good stuff and is laid out as a bespoke jewellery tray, it is at the bot

The large wide one covers all the 22 small storage drawers with larger decorative columns on each side. These drawers have birds eye maple on the inside. This ice box has over 20 hand carved pieces on the two front doors, nice detailed lion head carvings and two large paw feet. All of these carvings were hand made by highly skill woodworkers in the 1890's. The columns on the sides are really nice oak rope carvings that are below each lion head and extends down to the top of each paw foot. Underneath the top ledge are unusual oak trim with heart style carvings on all three sides. The bevelled mirror is in great shape, no chips, scratches or hazeThis ice box is solid oak and has never been painted before. A lot of the ice boxes that you see listed were painted before and when finished, they have a washed out appearance from the paint still present in the grain of the wood. This ice box has a beautiful smooth finish and a rich color to it. You will not be disappointed one bit with this item. It dates from the 1890s to 1900s. It has a couple of rub marks on the tabletop from dragging something on the table top. It is noticeable, but not severe. It is a solid oak 54 inches quarter sawn top. The table is 30 inches high and when all four leaves are inserted the table becomes 8 feet long. It is a good-looking table with a large reeded center column and a platform base that goes down into the biggest ball and claw feet I have seen in a long time. The table is in a medium oak stain. Antique Victorian Gilded Gesso Mirror, Acorn & Oak Theme, Jordan Marsh Company
This is an exceptional antique mirror from a coastal Maine estate. Date from the late 19th century, and exclusively made for Jordan Marsh Co. in Boston. The mirror measures 16 1/2" long and 13 1/2" wide, with an overall depth of 1 1/2" The frame is gilded gesso, heavy wood with gold painted plaster over it. There are four ornaments of acorns and oak leaves which are extremely detailed, and I've shown close up photos of each. One of them has damage to the gesso, with a large chip missing in one of the leaves. There are also two very tiny chips in the gold in other parts of the frame not more visible. A few hairline cracks in the gold, only seen upon very close examination. There was one spot of black on the frame that shows in the pictures, but it came off with gentle manipulation. The glass is original with no chips or ... morecracks, but there are a few spots where age has gotten through the silver applied on the reverse. This mirror has been very well preserved and the paper on the back is intact, with its original label in very good condition. This auction is for the best mirror I have ever came across. When I first saw it I thought it was a later reproduction as the front was in such nice shape. But then I turned it around and could not believe my eyes, the patina, the age, and then a decal that reads a patent date of 1880's. It is a large mirror. It measures approx. 48 1/4 inches tall 27 1/4 inches wide and would come off the wall 4 3/4 inches. All measurements to furthest points. Would look great in a hallway or foyer. The decal reads This Backboard patent applied for 1880, pat applied for 1883, pat applied for 1883 Deuther MFG. I would say it is in the Eastlake style. What I am still a bit confused by is when the front had it finish put on it. The front does have a stain that was put on it that was painted on with several different wood tones to give it a certain look. ... moreWhoever did that finish did a high end professional job. The front frame has no marks blemishes at all, it is in mint condition. The mirror has a couple of small streaks from age. Hard to see and only from a couple of angles, that means a little of the silver on the back has been lost, very little and like I said only in a couple of angles and it is faint. A Victorian. Arts& Crafts era carved oak framed round mirror. This likely would have hung above a wash stand and basin. Possibly on a train. Assumed to be early American, but unmarked. We would date to the late 1800/early 1900's. The mirror is round beveled glass, the frame is a carved ornate shape with attached carved detail. There are two round-head wood pegs on either side of the top and two metal knobs with floral detail on each side at the bottom. This is an antique Victorian era shaving mirror. It has 3 panels of 7.5" square. The oak frame is carved. The mirrors are all beveled. The back side is embossed leather I think. Appears to be all original with the original hardware. The mirrors are a little imperfect but not enough to really notice. The only thing I can see that is wrong is the hook on the latch is missing. 3 antique mirrors for the price of one! Guaranteed Victorian era antiques. Middle one looks like walnut. The other 2 are quarter sawn oak. Nice patina across the board. Well made mitered corners. Walnut frame has a raised ridge along the glass and criss crossed at each corner. Round rings carved at each corner with a center bullseye of textured brass? Mirror has deep bevelling all around. The other 2 have nice tiger striping but no bevelling of glass. Oak frames have nice bevelling to the frames themselves, around glass. All have original wood backings intact. Walnut one measures approx. 33 inches by 27 inches. Large oak measures approx. 33 1/4 by 26 1/2 inches. This is a nice antique solid wood framed wall mirror with carved floral accents on the crest and upper corners. And a wide bevel all the way around the mirror. The mirror is sturdy, solid, and heavy. The wood is walnut or oak with a very dark slightly glossy finish, the finish is probably not original, but is in good condition with some scuffs, scratches, and minor chipping, mainly along corners and edges. The glass looks very good, but there are a few areas of light spottiness in the silver. Images are crystal clear throughout. The lines that appear on the glass in the photos are a reflection and are not actually visible on the glass. There is a wooden panel over the back and the hanging wire is intact. Beautiful and different. 19th century hanging wall mirror. VERY unusual shape with the arched top. The inset mirror has beveling all around and is in great condition. Very dark wood, quarter-sawn oak graining visible. There are 2 quadruple cast-iron hooks with great brass/copper patina. The body of the mirror is one piece, with the decorative arch applied to it. There is a little nick out of the wood on the applique at the top of the arch, on the right side. It will disappear with a little stain. For its age, this piece is in really nice overall condition. Here is a fine example of an Eastlake Mirror. Circa 1880's, in Oak. The overall dimensions of this Tilting Mirror are as follows; Height- 31 1/2" Width- 37 1/4" The Mirror Frame Measures 23 x 33" The actual Mirror is 19 x 29" All of the Oak is in very good condition

Vintage Antique Victorian Carved Oak Beveled Dressing Dresser Wall Mirror
This is an original antique mirror with beautifully carved oak frame and beveled glass. It looks like it was once used as a dresser mirror and has the metal brackets on the back to attach it to a harp. However. It also looks like it was hung as a wall mirror using the metal brackets. It currently has a piece of string tied between the brackets, and before hanging again, the string should be upgraded to a wire. The wood is in excellent condition with only minor light scuffs and tiny dings and the frame is sturdy and solid with tight corners. The finish is very good with some minor wear from age and use. There is an area along the bottom edge where the finish has flaked off. Shown close-up in the photos. The glass is beveled along the edge and is in good condition, but has some flaking, cloudiness, and spottiness to the silver from age. The ... moreoriginal back panel is intact with an old label from Oshkosh Furniture Company. The outer measurements of the mirror are 26 1/2" W x 28" H. It will be packed securely. XLNT Antique Victorian Oak Hat Rack Beveled Wall Hall Tree Mirror
This is a beautiful antique oak framed beveled hall mirror with three large Victorian style hat hooks. It is in excellent condition and looks like it was restored at one point. The hooks look excellent and might be newer replacements. But the hardware on the back of the hooks is very old. The wood, glass and all other hardware look original, but the wood was probably refinished. It looks excellent with no visible wear and has a smooth, even, natural hand rubbed finish. All four corners of the frame are tight. The mirror looks very good but has a few areas of crazing/flaking on the silver, shown in the photos. The paper backing has been replaced and there is a newer wire attached to the old hardware. The dimensions of the frame as it hangs is 27" W x 27" H, and with the hooks, it sticks out from the wall 6" It will be packed ... moresecurely, double boxed, and insured during shipping.
