PAIR LARGE ANTIQUE TALL ITALIAN VENETIAN GILT IRON BRASS WALL MIRROR PALLADIO?
We are very pleased to offer this magnificent pair of antique(1920s-1940s) mirrors. These large mirrors feature beautiful gilted iron and brass frames. They are very much in the Palladio. Italy style in terms of their pattern and frame design. The gilt iron frames are heavy and feature a"suspended" outer frame which is connected to the inner frame by a series of ball shaped connectors. The frames are then embellished with ornate yet simple scrolling curves on the corner sections and are topped by a gilt brass, large, fleur de lis. The mirrors are very old and because the backs are missing, they have some scratching to the mirrored coating on the backs. They are secured in the frames with the original wooden border which is fitted on the inner side of the frame on the backs of the mirrors(see picture 11) The backs of the frames are ... morefinished in red, again suggesting Palladio as this was common with Palladio mirrors. Because the backs are missing, there are no manufacturer's stickers. However, the frames are numbered on the front side in the upper section. These are exceptionally designed mirrors and frames. The finish is in very good condition with little evidence of age or wear. We can ship either with the mirrors or without. You can choose this option. The mirrors probably need to be replaced if you don't like the"aged and worn" look. I have had them hanging in my home for a while and I love the aged charm.just a personal preference. My wife and I bought a house in February and attached to the walls were these giant Antique Victorian mirrors. They don't fit our style. So, we've decided to sell them. Here are a few facts about them: 7ft Tall 3ft Wide 150lbs each(around that) Wooden construction with carved accent pieces 100+ years old. We were able to determine the age by a newspaper that was stuffed behind the mirror to act as insulation. It was dated February 2, 1916. The house itself was built in 1895, so, the mirrors could be that old, or even older. They're in decent condition. Some refinishing work and they would look amazing. They have an eagle looking left on the top and amazing intricate filigree detailing around the entire face edge. You can see the mirrors in the background have some peeling but it adds character to them and their age. They each have a sticker on the back of them and each stamped 814 shown in last two photos. Not sure if the hanging hooks are original or not as a couple hooks look to have been reattached on the back, please refer to photos. They hang perfectly fine with the hangers on them as photos show. This is a very nice pair of Victorian period bolts that would be used to secure a mirror to a frame on a chest of drawers. They have the wooden washers or stops still attached. The ends are solid brass or bronze and are 1 1/2" wide on the ends and the bolts are 4" long overall with the iron threaded section being 2 1/2" long. Up for consideration is a fine pair of complimentary Venetian hand carved wooden mirrors with shelves or brackets at the base. They measure about 28 inches tall by about 18 1/2 inches with a depth of 5 inches or so. By complimentary I mean there is a left and right side. They are partially gilt with a limed finish with tan overtones and a little gold showing here and there. They are very good looking. Both mirrors are slightly discolored with light staining and pitting. Just enough to show that they have some age and old world charm. The dater probably from the 1910 or so. One h as torn slightly. Larger frame measures about 10.2"x 7.2" The interior about 5.5"x 8" and half an inch thick. For sale by auction this superb pair of Victorian parlour mirrors. Hand painted with flowers and butterfly. These have been in the family for a very long time. Genuine Victorian mirrors and a rare example The frames are not original having been renewed in 1978 by my late father in law. The mirrors themselves are in good condition for their age with a little tarnishing. Judge for yourself by the photos and I can send more on request.
