Additionally it is a Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope. The bottom of the body tube has two screw on and off lenses for adjustment of magnification. It features a bull's eye lens. The original Mahogony wood box, glass plates, and a period tweezer. It is 9" tall fully extended and has a 2 3/4" bottom diameter. I did clean up all the lens and provide a basic clean-up on the entire microscope with Windex only. Since it is unmarked. I was able to access a multitude of pictures and info concerning French Drum Microscopes, and I will share my research with you. I will provide four manufacturers' or instances of this type of microscope, to provide dating and provenance: 1. Charles Chevalier lived from 1804 to 1859. His 1848 microscope which can be found on Ebay. Is functionally similar to the instrument being offered, though not as sophisticated as far as features, and operational knob control. Since he worked through 1959, it was very possible that he added the features seen as he progressed from 1848 to 1959. 2. Construction No. 3 by Lerebours& Secretan. Ca1839-1855(designed and described by Lerebours alone in 1839 but not manufactured till 1855) Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope, height 10 1/5" Rack-and-pinion focusing, one bull's eye lens. It included a Mahogany wood box. This unit can be seen on the Internet and was valued at between $1,000- $2,000.00. 3. French Drum Microscope ca1865. Antique Apollo dresser set consisting of a long nad mirror. Small powder jar and larger dresser jar. These had a beautiful gilding at one time. Now the bronze is showing through since the gilding is wearing off. Each piece is jeweled. And all jewels appear original except for one on the glass dresser jar that is a lighter green color. Condition is decent for age but not spectacular. Mirror measures 15" long. Small powder jar measures 3 1/8" in diameter and the larger dresser jar measures 2 3/4" in diameter and stands just over 3 1/2" tall. The glass portion does have a chip that you can see in the photos when the lid is off. Offered at no reserve!

Vintage Vanity Set This is how I found this lovely set displayed on a dressing table at an estate sale. The framed mirror with children pictured is near perfect. The mirror tray with the Victorian Lady has some wear and a little loss to the silvering on the mirror. There is light discoloration, the picture of the lady is very good. Dispite age and wear this is nice. I think the aging it gives it character. I am guessing this to be from the 1930's or 40's? The tools are metal with minor wear to the goldtone. The tools are a shoe horn, tweezers,file and nail cleaner. The comb is plastic with goldtone metal trim. No missing teeth. Description- Offered for auction a wonderful estate sale found vintage/ antique pair of flanking vanity wooden framed beveled glass mirrors. Measuring approx. 23 inches tall by just under 8 1/2 inches wide and 15/16 ths of an inch thick at side edge profile. These have had the original mercury backing removed from thick beveled glass and backed with modern plate mirror to fix bad or deteriorating mercury. The frames still have the original hinge screw holes and each are buttoned up using cardboard backing stapled into refinished wooden frames. A vanity mirror, and a trinket box. it is a very ornate set with extremely intricate detailing and nice patina from age. All pieces are connected to beautiful circle linked chains which all connect to a silver-plated ring. The vanity mirror slides open to expose the hidden beveled mirror inside and shuts closed. the face cover of the mirror is of very ornate flowers and a detailed dragon wrapping the edge, they are done in very high relief. the compact box is in the shape of a shell and beautifully ribbed. The box opens and closes on a hinge and snaps tightly. inside is a beautiful silk. Antique Metal Decorative Hand Mirror and Brush Set from Thailand 1963
This brush and mirror set was purchased in Thailand in 1963 and has not been used but only displayed on a dresser. It has not been touched with any cleaner but kept exactly as it was when purchased. No cracks. Breaks or scratches. The mirror is approximately 13-1/2" long and the brush is approximately 10" long. They are both fairly heavy metal and beautiful in detail. Antique JB Van Sciver Gold Gilt Carved Wood Original Matching Mirror Shelf Set
For your consideration today is this great estate sale find of a matching pair of JB Van Sciver antique mirrors. They appear to be carved wood with a thick gold guilt style paint in what I would call an art nouveau or Victorian style. Each mirror also features a small shelf at the bottom making them even more unique and desirable. The condition is excellent for their age nothing major to report. There are no chips but the paint does have age related wear. There are fine cracks in the paint and/or wood as shown in the pics. These do not affect the integrity of the mirrors at all and in fact only adds to their charm. The mirrors themselves have no damage at all. There is no waviness or cloudiness of the glass. They are being sold as found and need some cleaning up. They measure about 32" long. 14" across the widest part, and the small ... moreshelves at the bottoms extend out from the mirrors 4" Both have what looks like their original hanging wires attached on the backsides. Both have paper backings attached to the wood and both paper backings have damage. One of the mirrors still has the original partial JB Van Sciver labels attached to the backside. Charming Antique Ebossed Brass Repousee Hanging Mirror and Brush Set
This is a beautiful old wall hanging mirror and brush set. The measurement across is approx. 15" x 11 1/2" high. The mirror is beveled and has a bit of cloudiness in it. The brass is in very good antique condition with a little wear on the corners. The brushes have been used. But are still okay. They look like boar bristle to me. I can guess they were used to polish shoes, dust off a hat or overcoat or perhaps to whisk crumbs off of a tablecloth in a restaurant. Please let me know if you have any questions at all. Gorgeous. Hand-carved, durian wood mirrors, hand-finished in an antique, metallic gold. This set of 7 mirrors is the perfect accessory to add a touch of glamor to any room. I am not sure what the flowers are supposed to be, if someone does know, let me know. Please note the fancier frame on this one! The brass has a pleasing, warm patina to the metal. This could be polished bright if you like that look. Being over 100 years old, I like to leave the patina. This still has it's original beveled mirror, showing some age. spidering, especially in upper left corner, surface scratches, but still had good reflection. This will mail under two pounds. Original plastic comb is in two pieces but a replacement comb may fit holder. Box shows some wear and discoloration. Mark on side of mirror says"Spritzer& Fuhrmann 297" 297 is symbol for pewter) Mirror measures 4 1/4" long x 2 1/2" wide; comb holder is 5" long by 1 1/8" wide.
