This is a piece that was built to last with strong and heavy construction throughout. The crest is an ornate and complicated carving of flowing ribbon tied in a double-bow and interlaced with flowers that sprout over and along the frame, likewise carved carefully with a large twisted rope molding lined by a small twisted rope border. Glass measures 36.5" tall and 26.5" wide. Patina is old and appears original, with some oxidation visible in spots. There is a dent to the sphere at the top, and signs of restorations near the top and bottom. It dates from the late 19th to very early 20th century, possibly by E.F. Caldwell. Antique French wood and gold gesso mirror, style of Louis XV
This mirror is just in from France. The frame is made of a dark chestnut wood with an oval gesso inset that frames the mirror. There are large gesso cartouches at the top and bottom of the mirror. The frame dates from the beginning of the 20th century. The mirror part is a recent addition. The style is Louis XV. The piece is in very good condition with as only flaw a slight separation at two of the corners of the wood frame. Obviously time has played with the wood and it is no longer a seamless fit. The mirror has great appeal and the wood has a wonderful patina. It is quite a remarkable piece! The authenticity has been verified by the importer who has been working in European antiques for 30+ years. Her inventory is so large and business takes up much of her time. Late 18th- Early 19th Century Item# 120009EIE29 This is a simply stunning Louis XV Period hanging wall mirror of outstanding craftsmanship and design. Circa the period or just thereafter, possibly as late as the first few years of the 19th century. The workmanship is beyond remarkable, the entire frame carved of solid pine, covered in a thin gesso and painted with gold gilt paint. The level of piercing to the cartouche would have left the mirror vulnerable, but as looking at the back of the mirror it is clear this mirror has been very carefully cared for over the years. The original hand forged screws still hold pieces of the flowing cartouche to the main portion ... moreof the frame. The delicate balance of flowing and scrolling acanthus leaves and c-scrolls are interlaced with feather-like plumes that curl around and over the frame, wrapping around the kidney-shape glass of the mirror. The glass is clearly replaced and in overall excellent condition. This is an absolute treasure. Above reproach in every way and in a wonderful preserved state. It is a mirror that will set your collection apart, gives presence and esteem to any setting and brings together the overall decor of a room. This is a piece you will cherish for a lifetime. The mirror is made of wood with a wood and wire trim in a floral motif. It is oval in shape and measures overall 42” high by 25 ½” wide. The mirror frame by itself is 31 ½” long by 25 ½” wide. The glass only is 29 ¼” high x 23” wide. The thickness of the wood frame is 1 ¼” This mirror is all original and has no damage or repairs the glass has no chips and all the silver is present. It is really dirty and could use a good cleaning to restore the gilt look. I am leaving that up to the buyer. It is wired and ready to hang. French Rococo Louis XV Style Mother of Pearl Polished Seashell Encrusted Mirror
This shell mirror measures 32 1/2" tall by 20" wide. The mirror is very heavily encrusted with gorgeous premium-quality shells and luscious. Hard-to-obtain mother-of-pearl slices and is very elaborately done. I never know how the design will finish up, as I just do what the hands wish to do. In this case I really loaded up on the shellwork. The mirror itself is a vintage Syroco mirror that is in perfect condition with heavy, thick glass. This will need to be hung professionally using molly bolts due to its weight. Last one for quite some time, as these are SO MUCH WORK and they have also become extremely EXPENSIVE to make. This magnificent Louis XV Mirror is of the period( circa 1750) Extremely rare example with the curved Louis XV legs and very wide bevel. Impossible to find on the market. Dimensions: 6'10" tall X 43" wide Extremely fine condition with one small break top left(picture#6) that can easily be repaired by an experienced craftsman. I recommend seeing it in person.
