Antique Oval Small Mirror Frame Bronze Brass? Very Heavy, Ornate, Foundry Mark
This is a very old and very heavy frame. Probably made in the late Victorian era at the end of the 19th century, or the very early 20th century. It is marked on the back 217 and in another place it looks like NB+NY- not sure about this mark, the second part is hard read. Might be NV or even IW. I believe it is bronze or brass. I have seen this frame in a larger version many times in cast iron, and those are heavy, but this one is REALLY heavy. You may have seen frames like this that are usually a foot tall or more. This is a little guy. Only 9" tall and 8" across. The frame has been fitted with a mirror which is newer. There are 3 little tabs that more easily on the back. And you could replace the mirror with glass and use it as a picture frame if you wanted. I think this frame probably had an easel-back at one time so that you ... morecould use it on a table. That has not survived the last 125 years or so. This is suitable for hanging with 2 small screws that would hold each curved piece at the top. This is great for any place you want to add a little reflection, especially nice in a grouping of mirrors. This is a very nice antique make-up mirror. It is on a stand so it can be used on a dresser or vanity. It has a gold colored frame. It could be brass. But I'm not completely certain of the metal. It stands 13 1/2 inches tall. The mirror itself is round and is 8 inches in diameter. The mirror has two sides and can be flipped over to have either side at whatever angle is needed. This is a very sturdy item- it weighs almost 3 pounds. There are no markings on the bottom. So I'm not sure how old or where it was made. Antique Walnut? Heavy Cheval Tilting Full Mirror Brass Castors & Hardware
I am not an antique dealer but I do love antiques. This mirror was in a very exclusive. High end women's boutique and it is very heavy. The mirror is beveled and has some silvering loss but I think that just adds to the charm of the mirror. It is in very good condition and still has a lot of life left in it. Overall the measurements are: 72 1/2" tall 31" wide. Including brass hardware 18 1/2" deep I think it is walnut. But whatever wood it is, it is solid! The finish is dark and yet you can see the grain. Lots of detail. The casters/castors are brass and roll well and the hardware it also brass. Originally I think there were some spacers between the mirror and the stand but I do not have those but I thought some little wooden wheels might work there if you thought it was necessary. Here is a mirror in an antique cast brass or bronze Victorian frame. It had originally been a standing mirror or picture frame but the stand was broken off( screw and nut remain) and a picture hanging wire attached. Now a wall hung mirror it measures 18 inches tall and 13 inches wide and weighs almost 7 lbs. While the mirror is cloudy and stained. We don't believe the mirror is original but is a replacement.
