Dark Strong French Blue Chalk Painted Wooden Mirror on Stand 30's Vintage
Mirror on stand with brass keys on the side. Could have stood on a dresser or vanity. Would look fine there, as well as on a mantel or stand. Swivels on the stand; it can be removed from the stand and you could use the keys with a sash or cording to hang it on a wall. On the stand it is 22 1/4" tall and 16 1/2" wide. The mirror with out stand is, 20 1/2" tall and 13 1/2" wide. I painted it withthe strong blue chalk paint, burnished it with a steel brush and waxed it. The shell is French gray from Annie Sloan line of paint. I like the way it came out, so I thought I would give it a try. Economy shipping will be about 8lbs from 06790 Ct. Best Shabby Antique French Painted Barbola Trumeau Mirror Paris Flea Market Find
This is one outrageously beautiful and very special French framed mirror ~ originally purchased over 15 years ago from the Paris Fleamarket. It is as elegant as ever with grand measurements of 68 inches tall by 57 inches wide ~ it has been painted many many times and there are small hints of blue and other mixes of color which can be seen at the outermost edges ~ it currently(and appears to have been for quite some time) is painted in a gorgeous milky gray,green,beige color with milky antique white highlights painted on every piece of old gesso trim- this is the best way that I know to describe the color that it is painted- I love those mixes of hues that lean towards one shade one time and another later ~ the color is yummy and the old wood is thin as many of the antique French trumeau mirror frames usually are ~ it has carved columns at ... morethe sides which are slightly lower than the elaborate center medallion at the top ~ this piece had previously been mounted into a top crown mold sized to fit at the top of the side columns with the medallion extending out over the crown molding(custom fit) ~ it is beautiful as it is or set into any recessed area that you creatively design ~ what a wonderful architectural find for the lover of that special old world style and charm! ~ there are large barbola cornucopias with fruit adorning the top section and acanthus carvings all around the thick elevated gesso trim ~ let us not forget the fleur de lis and other Scrolling adornments just everywhere on this breathtakingly beautiful piece! Obviously there are crack lines in many areas of the wood and the gesso ~ there appear to be very few to no missing pieces of trim- I have tried to photo up close as clearly as possible- I can note that the fruit trim on the left side appears to have been reattached at some point with a small gap at that point but if this bothers you. A small amount of filler could solve that issue ~ there are nail holes here and there from previous mountings with the larges two being at the middle oute

It is covered on 2 sides with a gold and sage French silk floral brocade. The front panel is silk with a hand painted scene of a man and woman dancing. The panels measure 8.25" x 10.5" The chased gilt bronze framing is of exquisite design as well as the gilt frame on the front painted silk panel. Note the pictures of the clasp and hinges. The mirrors are beveled. Overall this is in very good condition. I do see some loose silk threads as shown in the pictures. I do not see any makers or country of origin marks on it. Vintage French Provincial Wood Wall Mirror Hand Painted Black Grey White Aged look. We painted up this solid wood mirror with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. We used graphite/ her version of black. And then aged it to grey shade with wash of old white. There are peaks of black showing through here and there, varying shades throughout. Looks nice and old. Great French Provincial form. Most likely mfg in the 1950s or so. Few of the decorative carved wood sections missing there and there but very hard to tell do to paint covering the raw wood edges. The mirror measures 45.5" by 29.5" wide. The mirror is in good condition with no chips, cracks, scratches or black aged spots. Good crisp image quality! Ooh la la chic! This exquisite mirror is victorian in style and is made of gilded wood. I think it is from the 1900-1940 and is in excellent condition. It is very ornate and measures 23" by 28 1/2" It is rare and so is hard to duplicate but definitely has that French country look. The carving is exquisite.

Signed by the artist, but it is not hard to read, but looks like either Gejer, or Geyer? The painting is stunning, beautiful young woman on the back, the coloring is exquisite. The painting is in nice condition, but has two fine scratches, one going across the left side of her face, the other is curving up on her left shoulder. I have close ups of these, so please view pictures. Note that close ups make it look far worse than it is, hardly noticeable to the naked eye) The metal on this is ornate. With a Cherub, Putti on each side of the finial, and also one on each side of the bracket that holds the ring on the bottom of handle. The metal is tarnished, darkened, will leave any cleaning to new owner. This mirror measures about 8.5" not counting the ring. Not sure what the ring was used for, if it was made to hand from chain on your neck, Or on a Chatelaine? Possibly just to hang when not in use.
