Antique Folk Art Grain Painted Frame with Mirror c.1840 Antique hand painted frame. Reddish brown with black stripes. Pine with square nail construction. Original painted decorations on front, sides were never painted. It has a mirror that is not original to it. The mirror isn't all that old but does have quite a bit of tarnishing to the silver. I don't have the original wood backing board or the hanger or wire. It does have a cardboard backing with newer nails and wire. This frame would be good for an early folk art painting, early print, sampler, theorem, etc. Size- Outer) 16 3/4" x 12 1/2" Size- Sight- front opening) 13 5/8" x 9 1/2" Size(Opening in back) 14 1/4" x 10 1/8" Condition: The paint is original and hasn't been retouched. Up for auction is a wonderful hand painted folk art Pennsylvania Dutch deep well walnut mirror recently found at auction in the Lancaster County PA area. It is found in good used condition and features prominent PA dutch painted tulips and hearts on the inner edge next to the mirror. It features what appears to be original paint with great crackle and alligator appearance. It does not have its original backing so the mirror may be younger than the frame but yet does show signs of age. The mirror measures approx. 8 x 10" with the overall frame outside dimension approx. 15.5" x 13 1/4" It currently is set to hang vertically but could easily be changed to hang on the horizontal. Great in any country or high country setting. The only condition issue to report is a minor scratch to the bottom edge of the frame. Offered is an antique mirror. From SE Germany/ Bavaria. This was probably part of a bedroom dresser or vanity. It was painted a pale, mint green color on the front, along with a folk art style, stenciled look to it. The top corners of the wood are dovetailed under the paint. It weighs on the heavier side. The mirror is in good shape. With no cracks or chips. There are some age flaws to it, but these don't detract from the piece. There is a minor. Old water mark along some parts of the base.
