This mirror. With reverse painting, was made in the 1860's thru 1870's it is from an estate in upstate NY. where it has resided for all of it's life, generations! This piece has had the back replaced with pine boards, as originally it probably would have been paper. The mirror I believe is original but I can't be absolute on that! The reverse painting is original and does show some lose of paint, probably from being in an old house with varying degrees of temperature and humidity. The frame is made of maple wood. The mirrors size is 21 1/4" tall and 11 1/4" wide. The condition I would say is good, so please look over all photos and judge for yourself as it is, 140+ years old! This listing is for a vintage smaller size Federal style convex mirror with an eagle crest. It is an old piece. But not actual Federal Period} The mirror is encased in a wood carved frame with a carved eagle crest at the top set on wreath style leaves that conform to the curve of the frame. The leave motif is repeated at the bottom of the frame. This mirror stands 23 1/2" high by 15 5/8" in diameter. The frame is 1 1/4" thick. The eagle has a wing spread of 13, and the overall weight is 4.9 pounds. CONDITION: There is slight chipping in some areas around the outer edge of the frame. And on the rear of the frame on the mid right side. There is age crackling to the gold paint and paint loss ... moreon each of the ball decorations. A repaint would solve each of these issues. The mirror itself is a little loose and probably should be reset. There are no cracks to the mirror but there is one area of age clouding or mirror surface loss on the lower right side of the mirror. Vintage Federal Style Eagle Convex Mirror Porthole
Very unique Federal mirror. This one is darker than most for sale with shades of black and gold. It is on the smaller side at 18 1/2" x 10 1/2" It has an oversized eagle on top. Perfect for any room. A nice size for fitting a tight space like a hallway. Porthole shape makes it nice for nautical decor as well. Make is unknown. May be Syroco. It likely dates to the 1950s.
