This mirror is supported on two uprights that have the original brass threaded cheval bolts with decorative knobs. It has its original gold gilt gesso liner and intracately original beveled mirror glass. This is a super attractive shaving mirror with an Ogee curved profiled front to the base containing three drawers. Two of the drawers(the righ and left sides) have been professionally rebuilt and restored in addition to all the four finely crafted bracket feet. These are period accurate feet for this mirror and a sizable investment has been made in correctly restoring the base of this mirror. The piece is coming up on 300 years old and pieces don't get this age without some issues and attention being paid to them. Fortunately this was a professional restoration and not some hack repair we inhertitated and need to have addressed. But we did pay appropriately for the pleasure. One other issue worthy of mention-at some point a previous owner had installed probably brass finials with threaded rods on the tops of the uprights. We are offering the way it is. If you would like finials we would be happy to direct you to several sources for them or have something custom turned by our woodworker. This is an fantastic piece and we were lucky to obtain it. If you desire a fancy option we again will assist you but we are selling this with all its present charm. Integrity and rarity. The shaving mirror is 17" long, 8" wide and 23 1/2" tall. The mirror is just under 5" from edge to edge. The cup is 2 3/4" diameter and 2 1/4" high. The mirror is bevelled and the back is textured black cardboard in great condition. The brush is marked Sterilized Opal Set in Rubber Pure Bristle 12. The mirror is just sligthly out of wack from the holder but overall great vintage condition. Vintage Edwardian Portable Shaving Mirror - Leather & Shot Silk, Bevelled Mirror
PORTABLE VANITY/ SHAVING MIRROR This beautiful piece of Edwardian craftsmanship has an outer skin of leather whilst within. And facing the mirror is a piece of darkish green shot silk- beautiful in itself I think. Even the small leather tag, with which one lifts the case to allow the mirror to fold down is still in great working condition. There are signs of wear to the leather and also to the edge of the silk lining where it is in close contact with the mirror and thus has been slightly worn with the opening and closing of the mirror over the years- all of which have been described in"item condition" and which I have tried to show in the attached photographs. Not just a great reminder of a seeming long distant past. But also an item which is still highly practical. I use the most cost effective method to send my items. Based upon ... moreweight and value and the current courier and Royal Mail costs. I have a policy whereby I refund any over payment on postal costs estimated and charged(if applicable) upon my return home. This seems to work quite well and fairly I think since it means that you pay only for your item and the actual postal costs to transport it to you- there are no"hidden" charges such as packaging.
