Vintage Bevelled Glass Vanity Dresser Mirror Victorian Cast Brass
This is a handsome. Vintage, bevelled dresser or vanity mirror that belonged to my grandmother who died at the age of 90- decades ago. So it's pretty old- I don't know how old. It appears to be solid cast brass, looks Victorian, and is stamped with the number 301 1/2 on the back of the mirror's frame and 196 1/2 on the base. It's heavy. The overall height is 18" and comes apart in 3-4 sections. The actual mirror is approximately 6" x 8.5" not including its brass frame. The frame has two decorative screws on either side of the mirror that allow it to pivot. The mirror has a few specs where it has lost the silvering. This would be perfect for anyone living in a Victorian home, and especially if the man in the family shaves the old fashioned way. DESCRIPTION: A large ebony wood hand mirror with its original bevelled edged glass. Measures 12 inches long. 4.75 inches wide, stamped'REAL EBONY' to the handle. This extremely slow growing hardwood was imported from British India and was a popular vanity set material with both men and women from around the turn of the century to the mid 1920s. When the timber became too rare and expensive to be economically viable. These ebony relics of the period have been highly prized ever since. This is a wonderful vintage jewelry or trinket box. It still has part of the manufacturers sticker on the lid. The lid is made from Bevelled glass and has a decoration of birds and flowers on the center of the lid. Plated in 14kt gold, the sides are open cut out design or filligree with a green velvet bottom. Stands on 4 legs. Measures approximately 7 5/8th inch wide, 5 1/8th inch deep and3 1/2 inches tall approx. An estate find. There are signs where items have sat in the trinket box for an extended time but the actual lining still looks to be in a nice condition. Sadly age and history are not known to us.
