A great antique barley twist solid oak shaving mirror. Victorian most likely and possibly English. Came out of an antique shop upstate NY almost twenty years ago. Just never had the right place for it so I must sell. This is a real classic and though you will see variations. It is doubtful that you will come across the same piece. They are getting harder and harder to find and some are trying to sell similar examples for a few hundred on ebay. Oak appears to be in very good condition. Antique Carved Wood Barley Twist Cheval Mirror Dresser Vanity Jewelry Box
Up for auction is a fine antique carved wood vanity jewelry box. Vanity is made of three different woods and is comprised of a large locked center drawer flanked by two smaller drawers on each side and has a cheval mirror on top with barley twist posts. Excellent detail. There are two Sandwich glass knobs on the front. Carved leaf detail to the posts, scalloped skirt under the center drawer. Beautiful color and natural grain pattern. Overall in very nice condition with light surface wear, one small chip to the skirt, a hairline near the back right foot, a split to the wood behind the mirror, the glass pulls are slightly different from each other, a few drops of white paint to the top of the mirror and back. THE CORNERS ON TOP ARE DECORATED WITH AN ACANTHUS LEAF. THE MIRROR HAS PRESS BOARD BACKING AND A WIRE FOR HANGING. THE WOOD IS PIECED APPROXIMATELY ONE-HALF WAY DOWN ON THE LEFT SIDE BUT I THINK THIS IS A MINOR FACTORY FLAW. I BELIEVE THIS PIECE IS NEWER THAN IT LOOKS BUT IS STILL FAIRLY OLD. Authentic, Antique British Mirror Barley Twist
This mirror is from England and the era is late 1800s-early 20th century. It is unusual because of its size. It is so beautiful! I had it at my mom's house in Dallas before bringing it home to Austin and everyone that came to her house wanted to buy it from her. Ha ha. Very detailed with 2 birds up top holding some sort of berry plant. Barley twist sides with carved design. The mirror itself is beveled. You can tip it forward or backwards. Local area pick up only as this is too delicate for me to want to risk shipping. I live in Austin. TX.
