Length Vintage Exquisitely Embroidered Natural Tussah Silk .3 Beautiful Panels
Here we have a piece of early 20th century natural coloured Tussah Silk which has 3 exquisitely embroidered panels worked in cream twisted silk in the Chinese style. Measuring in total 78" x 32" there are 2 identical rectangular panels that each measure 16" x 6" and one that is 16" x 11.5" The exquisite hand work is within a whisker of being as good on the back as it is on the front and is reminiscent of the work on Chinese'Piano' shawls except this silk also includes some drawn thread work. Now the bad news. Patches of the silk. Fortunately on the unembroidered areas, have greasy looking marks which didn't come out when I washed it. The panels are fine! I have owned this for nearly 40 years and have enjoyed taking it out now and again to admire the work which I think is hand done. I only kept what ... moreI thought was the best! They are a rich blue silk(we believe that this is pure silk) with damask dragons and scrolls. Each have small weights in the bottoms and rod pockets at the tops. All are lined. They measure 83" x 27" each. Not for someone that wants new. These have a wonderful timeworn patina that you cannot find with new. These drapes have sun fading in stripes that look like an ombre finish. Light surface wear and thinning on the edges, one pinhole, one pea size hole, and one drape has a seam separation from its lining as shown in photo's. Early LANE c. 1950 'Virginia Maid' Cedar Chest--3/4" Solid Red Cedar Panels
Guess what? I took apart a Lane Cedar Chest once only to find out that it was not really cedar chest at all. What it revealed itself to be was certainly enlightening. For concealed between a thin layer of cedar veneer. An even thinner layer of decorative fascia veneer, and a 3/4" thick top strip of cedar running horizontally along the edge was in fact a huge sheet of PARTICLE BOARD! Prior to this rather cleverly deceitful method of increasing a company's profit with the use of inferior material under the guise of quality woods. There used to be a disclaimer attached to such pieces as this LANE'VIRGINIA MAID' CEDAR CHEST This disclaimer identifies the products used in the construction of furniture. And on the inside of the lid it says: 70% MADE OF 3/4" RED CEDAR PANELS(JUNIPERUS VIRGINIANA) So this isn't one of those ... moreparticle board pieces. It is almost all solid wood except the veneers on the front and top, and the decorative base. ART DECO STYLE The blotchy areas are just where varnish remains-almost all of the varnish has totally disappeared. Leaving a raw piece with just those blotchy areas mentioned-the piece is almost immaculate condition otherwise. I believe the fabric is a heavy weight cotton and reminds me of fabric used during the 50's although I'm not sure they are that old. The colors.charcoal gray.Turquoise and mustard are fantastic and the green and bronze threads that run through the weave give it an extra kick. They are in great shape with the exception of 2 very small flaws(see photo) If you didn't want to use them as curtains they could be turned sideways and used for drapery panels or made into pillows or gathered skirts. On offer is a pair of vintage drapery panels. Dating from the 1950s, with a beautiful botanical design in greens and purples against a cream background. The fabric is sturdy and strong, and has been preserved in great condition, with no stains, holes, tears, fading, or odors. However, the lining on the rear of the panels does show a bit of yellowing, due to age. Each panel measures approximately 76" x 44" Pleats have been removed. This fun retro pair of kitchen drapes measures 69-3/4" x 40-1/2" They are pleated at the top and have 2" hems at the bottom. The fabric is a medium weight woven cotton blend I believe. I have washed them in cold water and line dried them. They are clean with no holes or tears. The fabric is in excellent condition. The colors are bright~no fading. One of them has a very small area of light brown stain at the bottom hem. See last photo. It's more like a faint discoloration. It's not easily seen. 3 pairs vintage silk lined pleated black out custom chartreuse drapery panels. These drapes have the silk show fabric. Black out fabric in the middle and the white lining. So 3 layers of fabric. I have 2 sets of tiebacks. I could only find 5. I took the odd one and washed it to see what would happen-actually I washed 2 of them by mistake-you'd never know installed. I was testing the washability and the fabric. I was pretty sure they were silk and after washing the tieback, I am fairly convinced they are 100% silk. They are beautiful, well made drapes. Pictures 1 and 3 show the true color. Some of the other pictures look more gold. They are chartreuse. A very now color. These would have cost a fortune to buy all the material and have them made. Hardware: The door is currently not equipped with any hardware. However. W e have a good selection of period hardware in our eBay store. And tons more in our physical store. On the interior side of the door. The edge of the lock stile, the bottom of the hinge stile, the bottom rail, the bottom of the lock stile, and some molding are all chipped; there is a hole in the middle rail, possibly for a bell of some sort. Otherwise. This door is in very good shape with only surface scrapes, scratches, small nail holes-minor cosmetic blemishes, which would be removed during the finishing process or covered if painted. Quirks& Considerations: The height of the door was unevenly cut by 5/8" and the width was unevenly by 3/8" at some point. Most likely to accommodate for a warped floor or settling foundation. This set of 3 stained glass panels are from our kitchen cupboards. Removed due to renovation. Each measures 7 1/2" x 23 3/4" They are quality leaded, pieced glass; not plastic. Leafing is green, flowers are yellow and blue, butterfly is lavender/blue/yellow, stems/vines are created with leading. They are in perfect condition with one small exception. One of the panels has a cracked section(the ivory section on the right, below the grass blades. It is barely noticeable and does not compromise the strength of the panel. This piece has been cracked for the 13 years we have had the panels in our kitchen. The panels were here when we bought the house so this panel may have been cracked when it was made. The doors are made of solid heart pine, and each door has 5 raised panels on both sides. Please note that heartpine is the non-living. Core of a pine tree, and not the soft, outer, living sap-wood. Since it takes 30 years for a pine tree to develop just 1� of heart stock it is rarer. Harder, more durable, more insect& rot resistant, ... moreless susceptible to warping and twisting, and is much more valuable than the cheap, pine lumber that is commonly found at most hardware stores. Historic Reproduction 1900s Brocade 3 Panels HUGE From Algonquin Hotel MASSIVE!!
There is only one massive panel shown in these images but you get three of them. I meant to take a photo of all three together but I can only post 12 photos and I had so much fun moving the fabric around catching the light that I forgot to take a photo of all three. But you get three I promise. AND WHAT A TRIO you will get! Each measures 77"Wide at the bottom X 114" Long X 44"Wide at the pleated top. They are unlined and have been Professionally cleaned. They are a historic reproduction brocade and were custom-made and finished by a St. John New Brunswick designer. They were made for the historic Algonquin Hotel in St. Andrews By the Sea and were sold as it's going through it's biggest renovation since World War Two. I have been going to that hotel my whole life and I never saw these panels anywhere. I did buy other ... morepanels at the sale that I had reconginized from certain parts of the hotel they will be listed seperately but this trio I never saw them. My mother pointed out that they may have been from the honeymoon suite as I certainly have never been in there, but I'm not sure they were-they are super formal and may have been for a very important exclusive room! The Algonquin is a Victorian hotel and all the fabrics they use in it are always sensitive to the original decor of the hotel and the fact that these were custom-made truly betrays their pedigree. These are so sturdy and soft, they could be used for upholstery, for draperies for pillows and are going to arrive ready to hang. You could easily make them into tasteful portieres for your Victorian home that is why I'm listing them in the Victorian area of Ebay. Back them with velvet or don't back them at all, they would look smashing as portieres! they have no sunfading so perhaps that is what they were for the hotel I don't know. I do know it is a huge amount of high end fabric in a lovely golden yellow color that is fully reversible as shown in photo# 1. So you could use them either way it's your choice.

This antique circa 1890s Vanity Mirror has 8 by 10 inch Celluloid Panels. These panels depict an Art Nouveau lady holding a harp while a cherub flies over head. This mirror could be hung on a wall and many times would be used in a hallway. You open up the two panels and there are small feet allowing you to display it on top of a vanity. In the folded position, this brass mirror measures 13 by 17 inches. When opened, the overall length is 33 ½ inches. Both celluloid panels and the fancy brass frame are in perfect condition.
