The carving on this oval antique mirror is a work of art. Carved from four pieces of wood and joined with tongue and groove. We have a beautiful 19th century oval framed mirror. The frame is a very unusual and unnique piece of art. The back of the wood frame has the remnants of a paper label that says"Looking Glass Picture Frame" and then"A. C. H. and then the rest of the label is missing. The hardware holding the mirror in is not original. The original cardboard paper backing came off and is crumbling and we will ship with your order. I am pleased to offer this spectacular Georgian Mirror Frame from my late Mother's Estate. This dates back to the Civil War Period. And perhaps somewhat older. We are under the impression that it is of English origin. This frame is hand-crafted from Rich Walnut in the Georgian Motif, with a huge hand- carved Crown Crest featuring a Palmette, or Anthemion device, flanked by ornate Foliage. The overall quality and condition is truly first rate, and the carved crest is simply Magnificent. You are bidding on the FRAME ONLY.NO mirror glass. Mom never got around to getting a proper bevelled mirror replacement. For the original which was cracked and turning splotchy when she bought it back in the 1960's in Missouri. Gorgeous 19th Century Eduard Keller Finely Carved Gilt Wood & Gesso Mirror
Gorgeous antique gilt gesso and wood framed mirror dating from what I believe is the mid to late 19th century. Could be earlier I have no idea. I have investigated the label on back, but I have been unable to find out anything about it but I am sure it is European. It reads what I believe is Eduard Keller with Meissen/Heissen? underneath. There are more words underneath that which I cannot read. If you have any information you can share on this, please do so! I am very interested to know the origins. Offered at no reserve due to lack of knowledge regarding the maker or history. For the age, in really fine shape but it could use some slight restoration on some of the corners and some of the gilt in a few areas and it looks like there are a few areas of old attempts at restoration. One corner needs to be just pounded together as it is coming ... moreapart slightly, still VERY sturdy though. I am not sure the age of the actual glass mirror, but there are a few small black age specks within the mirror. There are many restorers that can fix the issues it has and it will look even more fabulous. It measures a huge 43.25" wide by 34.5" tall by 3" deep. Samuel Mcintire important carved ribbon on 19th century American mirror 1780
This auction is for an important 19th century circular mirror with a wood frame. Having an exquisite, delicately carved ribbon attached to its top possibly carved by the 18th century master, American architect and furniture maker, Samuel Mcintire(1757-1811) This is an old family piece and I have always been told that the original mirror was broken. During that time it was believed that a broken mirror was a sign of bad luck and to avoid it a piece of the broken glass had to be tossed into a stream or lake, or other body of moving water. The story continues, that a relative kept the ribbon from the top of the old mirror because it was believed to have been carved by Mcintire. Later the ribbon was attached to a gilt framed mirror and that mirror was painted brown along with the gilt carved ribbon some time during the Victorian era. The carved ... moreribbon is attached to the top of the mirror with three(3) very old nails. The nails are through an extremely old board backing glued to the back of the ribbon. There are no nail holes in the carved ribbon. The gilt of the ribbon and the mirror is beginning to show through the brown paint, as it has started to wear away over time. In 2011 a side chair with a carved back-rest attributed to Samuel Mcintire had an auction estimate of $30,000.$50,000.USD and sold for over $662,000.USD. Please keep in mind that this offering is only for a mirror with a carved ribbon. The ribbon and mirror both retain their original gilt surfaces but have been painted with brown paint. However, the ribbon is an 18th century masterpiece of American wood carving, obviously by the hand of a master carver. Wonderful late 1800's hand carved wall shelf with mirror. Made from SOLID OAK with two American Eagles. One at the top crest and one holding up the display shelf. The piece is in totally in original condition with its fumed oak patina with normal wear to the finish. All the carvings appear to be in great shape with one small chip off the larger eagles right wing. Not noticeable. Both eagles have glass eyes. This piece really makes a statement in a room!
