They have probably been stored in the attic more than they were displayed. They have never seen a real log! Measures about 17 inches tall and with the arms( I forget what they're called) are about 16.5 inches deep. Marked L and R and the fronts are stamped 1351 I think and the arms are stamped 1129 again. I think. I can't make the numbers out very well. Very heavy they weigh almost 9 lbs. ea. No damage other than dirt. Dust and rust. for more great items! The front piece is cast iron with a beautiful and intricate floral design. The base is attached to that piece. And the log holder sits on top of that. The front piece has a hairline crack, which is barely noticeable, and a small"cut" on the left side. These imperfections do not compromise the integrity of this lovely piece. They could be repaired or left exactly as is. This would look beautiful in an older home or as a decorative item to hold plants or other items. It came from a Victorian home in Berkeley. CA. I did find similar ones made by General Electric. As well as other company's, and a couple by GE in Ebay's completed listings. Other than missing a bulb. A frayed chord, and some mild age related discoloration, it is in excellent condition with no breaks, cracks, dents, or damage. When tested with a magnet, it is completely magnetic and I believe made of Cast Iron and Steel with some type of copper and bronze colored coatings. I did not test it, but I believe with a new chord and a bulb, there should be no reason why it wouldn't be functional. Great find for a Mid Century Modern enthusiast. Vintage 1950's to 1960's low Cast Iron metal If I was using this piece. I would use it for a magazine or newspaper rack. However, it is so low, that I think it was originally a Mid Century Modern log holder/ rack for the fireplace. I believe that the top portion would hold the logs/ wood and that the lower section would hold newspaper for tinder needed to start the fire. Please read the dimensions prior to purchase just to be safe. It has great Mid Century lines and styling- low and sleek. This is an original. Definitely not a reproduction. Great streamlined Mid Century Modern styling– sleek and low with a minimalist curved arc footed side piece that ends with the top oval handle. Due to the rust from previous outside use. 2 ANTIQUE ANDIRONS Here is an interesting pair of andirons. They appear to be brass. At least the center posts do as you can see the brass under the patena and rust. The bottom leg area is showing some silver metal, too heavy and thick for aluminum, I would think. They are heavy, each weighing 11 pounds. They are rusty and may have been painted at some point. Within the patina are colors of red/pink, browns, gold and silver. The metal is thick. The back braces are cool looking. They measure 19.75" in height and 10" front to back. The back of each upright is marked A1 and a symbol I can't make out. The back bars/braces are marked D4. I would say these are very old. From the 1800's although they could be from 1900's. Steampunk 1900s CAST IRON GAS FIREPLACE INSERT REZNOR Orthoray Rare Antique Vtg
Steampunk: The gas line could be used for the electrical line coming into the device and two brass balls could be removed and pipes could be connected to those square tubes to form the base for a double-sided steampunk lamp. The weight of the entire device would be sufficient to hold a nice size light fixture. Height about 24 inches. Width about 22 inches. Depth about 12 inches. The cast iron appears to be in good shape. One of the finials on the left side- the brass ball- is cracked. The old ceramic inserts in the fireplace are not perfect. One is cracked in two and one does not appear to be the same as the others. We do not know if the inserts are original. But that should not detract from the beauty of this very old and interesting piece. Inserts are easily replaced. Antique/Vtg Fireplace Cast Iron Canvasback Ducks /Loons, Glass Eyes for Andirons
Check out my other items! This is a pair of antique or vintage cast iron either canvasback ducks or loons with glass eyes that I was told were around a fireplace. They are 16 1/4" long x 6 1/2" tall x about 3" wide. One is heavier than the other and together they weigh almost 15 lbs. These were acquired as an estate item. I was also told that the man used to put his feet on these in front of the fireplace when he was a child. These may have been from andirons. A log grate, or maybe they were door stops made into fireplace items. Two of the bolts were there when I acquired these and two were missing and I replaced them- you can see these in the pictures.
