My favorite, ... morea true coal scuttle. It stands 19 1/2 inches tall and is 7 1/4 inches in diameter. I would say it is made of galvanized steel. Construction is riveted an the seam and where the handle plates are. The overlapped seam is on the short side(makes sense) and may or may not be sealed. The bottom does not seem t be galvanized, as rust is showing along the rim and in the center. Someone has kindly modified the bottom with 4 soft rubber feet to avoid scratching the floor. As mentioned separately, there is a single press in dent. I think you could force that back out smooth with either a couple of strong thumbs or judicious use of a rubber hammer from inside. It adds to its charm, so you can leave it as is. Please see other items from this barn. Including a sun dial and wooden, antique carpenter clamps. As in all my auctions. No returns. Nichiren is a founder of Nichiren Buddhism. From which various schools derived till today. This statue is made of wood; however. The eyes are made of crystals. This method was used until the Edo period(last samurai period in the Japanese history) and thus, it appears that this statue was made in the Edo period or even earlier. The use of crystals for the eyes gives this statue a live face. In fact. I had some mysterious feeling when I was face-to-face with him. The other interesting thing. Which would possibly add precious meaning or value to this statue, is the Japanese writings on back of the bottom cover(see the picture) I tried to read them ... moreand do some research on them; however, some letters are missing or too cursive to understand, and unfortunately, I could not reach any idea. I can at least say, however, that it is very rare to write something, including signs, inside such a cover where should not be easily found. CONDITION: Good antique condition with wears and stringy spaces and other sort of minor damages due to aging. Sold as-is. Please see close up pictures for condition and detail. Beautiful Handmade Blue Crystalline Glaze Snuff Bottle. Made out of either a high grade of porcelain or a blend of very plastic fine white stoneware mixed with the high grade porcelain. No two are exactly alike as the glazing process creates different crystal patterns on each piece. Crystal glaze is a rare technique seen on some high value vases. But very rarely on snuff bottles. The results are incredible and difficult to achieve. This snuff bottle is a fine artist-created porcelain bottle featuring royal blue starbursts on a light blue-grey ground. White spots are glare from lights. This classy bottle is topped with a fine old Peking Glass or agate stopper in deep black/blue. Measures: 2" H
