Up for sale is this beautiful pair of Virginia Metalcrafters cast iron George Washington andirons with VMC log racks. This pair has the original paint on them. On the back of George Washington is the authentic VMC mark along with 1020. Both log racks has the authentic VMC mark as well. The log racks slide into the back of George Washington by a tapered dovetail design. They stand approx. 14 1/2 inches tall. The log racks measure approx. 15 1/2 inches long and 3/4 inch thick. It appears that they were never used. The paint is in excellent condition on both. The pair weigh approx. 26 lbs. for everything. There are some green spots on the back and on the sleeve(ref. pictures) We're unsure what this is. Vtg Set Virginia Metalcrafters Dolphin Andirons Brass & 3 Fireplace Tools Rare
From a recent estate sale. This is a fantastic brass and wrought iron fireplace set made by Virginia Metalcrafters. They are signed in the back of the andirons under the wrought iron dogs. They are done in the stylized form of dolphins. The main dolphins are brass and the smaller dolphins are cast iron. Even harder to find are the original tools. I have 3 of the original tools with no stand. They also have stylized dolphins that perfectly match the andirons. I have not found the mark on the tools, however, I am sure they are correct for the set. Someone tried to polish an area at the bases of the brass andiron dolphins. No actual damage, the fronts of the andirons can swivel partly as well.

Harvin was purchased by Virginia Metalcrafters and made the andirons for Colonial Williamsburg. These don't have log holders attached to the back. But they do have screws for log holders if you want them to be functional. They're approximately 13" from foot to foot and 8" deep. One of them is 19" tall and the other about 19 1/2" tall due to a small gap where the base sits on top of the legs(see our last photo) This was the way they were made and the difference is more noticeable at eye level in our photos than sitting in the fireplace. The screws for the log holders are at the same level. So if you attach log holders it won't ... moreaffect how they sit. The andirons have some spotting and uneveness in the finish from use and age.
