This beautiful screen is tri fold and features an exquisite ... morehand painted outdoor scene. The screen is arched with the center section taller than the side panels. The scene features 2 large egret or crane birds in a marsh or shallow pool. One of the birds is standing erect while the other is searching for food in the water and his head is lowered to the ground. There are beautiful tree branches overhead and cattails and lily pads in the water. The screen is not marked but has an Asian or perhaps, French Chinoiserie look to it. It is accomplished on very thick wood panels, either oak or perhaps cedar. The panels have been hinged together with 2 of the original hinges still in place. The original hinges were initially nailed with the original nails still in place. The hinges were replaced and added to at some point but even the replacements are quite old. The screen is very primitive as you can see buy the legs and the unfinished wood around the ached tops. It is in good condition. It is structurally sound and stands as it should. The wood is aged and does have some splitting but nothing that puts the structure at risk and certainly nothing distracting. The paint has peeled and yellowed over the years which enhances the antiquity of this extraordinary screen. The screen is quite functional and would also make a beautiful wall hanging. This is a special old screen. The screen measures as follows: The total width of the three panels is 31" The center panel is 11" wide and the two side panels are 10" wide. The tallest. Center point of the screen is 39" The side panels are 36" tall at their tallest measurements and graduate to 31" The screen is VERY HEAVY and the wood is 3/4" in thickness. It's obviously an older piece. The lifter is about 8-3/4 inches long and weighs about 7 ounces. I can't find the slightest damage beyond light use marks and some surface roughness. Likely from the original casting. The end of lifting lug is about 7/8 by 3/8 by 1/8 inches, and tapers. These can sometimes be ground a bit to fit a particular eye. The square end is about 1/2 by 5/8 inches. These were sometimes used to adjust internal oven vents in cookstoves as well. I've posted lots of pictures so you can look it over. I have 5 other stove eye lifters running in current auctions. And there will be savings in shipping if you win more than one. Winner pays for USPS First Class in the USA.
