At a recent Estate Sale, I thought that it may possibly be made by the USA Company- Pilgrim. I recently sold(for $400) a set- very similar to this one- which was made by Pilgrim(in the 1950s or 1960s) and was attributable to George Nelson- a well-known designer of that period. This set. In my opinion, is of comparable quality, but it does not carry the manufacturer or designer name. In fact, I can find no identifying marks at all and am unable to find another like it on the web. This set, like the Pilgrim, is made of solid brass and cast iron, and both sets are comprised of the same four tools, in similar size, length and weight. But, the frame for this set is a good bit smaller than the Pilgrim frame- otherwise their weights would be very close. This set weighs a hefty 15 pounds and the other, close to 27 pounds. I own a cast iron fireplace set myself. My set has these same four pieces(in the same design configuration) and I can state. From personal experience, that these tongs are essential for the real fire-builder in your home. They work beautifully and are just what you need to relocate an entire log inside an active fire. This particular design will grab. And hold, logs with very large diameters(as well as smaller logs. Of course) unlike many tongs on the market today. The brass handles of this set are problem-free. With only the expected patina that comes with time and a few very light scratches. The brass on the frame, particularly on the bottom, has more visible scratches- than do the handles- as well as a small spot of wear to the protective varnish coating. It's obviously an older piece. The lifter is about 8-3/4 inches long and weighs about 7 ounces. I can't find the slightest damage beyond light use marks and some surface roughness. Likely from the original casting. The end of lifting lug is about 7/8 by 3/8 by 1/8 inches, and tapers. These can sometimes be ground a bit to fit a particular eye. The square end is about 1/2 by 5/8 inches. These were sometimes used to adjust internal oven vents in cookstoves as well. I've posted lots of pictures so you can look it over. I have 5 other stove eye lifters running in current auctions. And there will be savings in shipping if you win more than one. Winner pays for USPS First Class in the USA. These REALLY look like brass. But a magnet sticks to everything, so I am assuming it is cast iron. They are at least from the 70's, because they were in my Mothers house for at least that long. They are very heavy, and solid. Of course, there is some slight surface rust and signs of age, but no damage or abuse to call. I think they will clean up beautifully! The poker is a little bent, but nothing that cannot be straightened if it bothered you. The stand's handle unscrews, from the base, so I will separate it for shipping. That should just about do it! Gorgeous large solid thick and very heavy cast iron fireplace backing. The backing plate is a nice size measuring approx 21.5 inches by 15.5 inches and it is also approx 3/4 of an inch thick. It has a gorgeous intricate design that looks like a coat of arms and reads along the bottom"In God we trust" The backing plate is in good strong condition albeit with a covering of surface rust although this should clean off really easily plus this would look great with some black metal paint which will really make the design stand out. I am unsure of the exact type of metal that they are made from. A magnet does stick to them. These andirons have a Medieval, Gothic, Arts& Crafts look to them. They are each made from a Solid metal meaning that there are no nuts and bolts holding them together. They are all one piece. Each andiron weighs 13.6 pounds and measures 10 and 1/2" wide by 17 and 1/2" tall by 21 and 1/2" deep. They are in good condition with minimal wear present. These are vintage fire dogs! They are originals too! The only thing missing is a small bar that connects them in the back. When stood in front of the fireplace the eyes flicker and glow! The eyes are original too. Which is quite rare! They are in exquisite shape and show incredible detail!

Vintage solid brass andirons cherub face cast brass base ORNATE!
Here's a pair of vintage solid brass andirons. The base is cast in the shape of a renaissance style cherub head with long flowing hair as the main feature of the casting. The upper section looks to imitate a lathed wood dowel. The very top is graced with a cast brass torch flame. The base supports are made of cast iron. Not sure on the age of these. But I would perceive they date pre-1950. There are a few condition flaws. Most notably. The rear hook is broken off one of the andirons. A screw holding the horizontal iron bar is missing on the other andiron. Both have quite a bit of patina; some brass cleaner should solve this if desired. Some small dents and scuffs are common across the base section, but there are no serious dents or damage besides the missing hook. Total weight of the two pieces are 13 lbs. And subtracting the cast iron ... moreparts it likely makes up it's weight in 11+ pounds of solid brass. The base is made of cast brass, the upper sections are of a finer brass. NO RESERVE.
