These are massive and are not to be confused with the thin reproductions I am seeing on Ebay. These are right out of a HUGE Victorian fireplace. The crossbar weighs about 50 lbs. and the andirons about another 50 lbs. The fiddle head tops are wonderful with large round head hammered rivets up and over the tops with ribbons of iron that widen to thin curls. Very dramatic and elegant. You have to see these in person. They are incredible! The andirons are 29" tall x 26" deep and are 14" wide each. The log roll preventing cross bar at the front is 68" long x 5" square and is about 3" of solid iron hammered all over in a ... moredimple pattern. vintage heavy hand made hammered ornate wrought iron fireplace andirons set
this is a stunning pair of vintage hand wrought iron fireplace andirons. they are made from thick iron and are very heavy with a beautifully hammered finish. they have an abundance of intricate detailing with nice stylized pointed finials. they are nicely footed with curved and wrought legs, the back/ wood rests are made from a cast iron and they both have hooks behind the top of each andiron. They can be used to hold tools, a fire screen, or to even cook something over the fire. they are in nice shape and each measures 18 inches tall by 9 inches wide by 18 1/2 inches back to front. Antique Arts and Crafts Andirons w/Fender, Hand-Hammered Brass over Iron
This is an early 20th C. pair of andirons with matching fender in the Arts& Crafts style. They are made of hand-hammered brass over iron with shield and crest motifs. I have only seen a few sets of similar andirons and they were either for sale in London or had an English attribution. I have not been able to decipher the maker's marks which appear to be a stylized"D" Please see the pictures and perhaps you can provide some insight. Despite their mysterious attribution. They are very well made and required a significant amount of skilled hand work. Each andiron weighs 14.4 lbs and they measure 18.25"H. 10.5"W, 21"D. Their matching fender is 42"W, 12"D, and 7.5"H. I replaced the two fasteners on the fender, and t here are small spots of surface corrosion here and there(please see the pictures) ... moreAdditionally. The right andiron's spit holder spins freely but will remain in place when positioned. The left andirons spit holder was refastened some time ago with a patinated brass screw.
