It is good condition. The wrought iron has a little slag on the handle and on some of the shaft from when the blacksmith pounded it out. It was cleaned with water prepare it for display. It has a very well made ball top on the handle. The handle has typical bends and is not perfectly straight. The flat head has a slight curve. Forged/Wrought/Cast Iron Vintage Bake Oven OR Chimney Clean-Out Door-1820's
This circa 1820 clean-out door was installed about 10" below a Bake Oven Door. The interior of the bake oven hand an ash dump in the floor of the oven which went down to a chamber below. This door covered that chamber and could be opened to retrieve(for soap making) or dump out the accumulated ash. For your consideration is an absolutely WONDERFUL pair of hand-forged wrought iron fireplace andirons. Please look at the pictures to see the old world workmanship of these fine pieces. You can easily see the hammer marks left from the blacksmith who made these works of art many years ago. Here in the U.S.A. If you are comparison shopping. Please note that these andirons are HAND FORGED and not made by machine. The hammer marks left by the Blacksmith reveal this remarkable difference. If you see silky smooth wrought iron andirons, they are not hand-forged. If you are a collector, then this information is very important and makes the item far more valuable than any machine made set of andirons. I purchased these for our home as we have 4 fireplaces but the one fireplace where I need them is not particularly tall and so these are the wrong ... morescale. Too big for my small fireplace. Offered is a Pair of Rare Vintage Victorian Era Hand Forged Andirons. Each iron measures approx. 11 ½” long by 8 ¼” wide at the front feet. They stand between 8 ¾” and 9 ¼” tall. The front of the andirons is short by comparison to modern day andirons. And uneven at the top. It is unknown if they were modified to fit a specific fireplace through the years. Antique Andirons Vintage Pair Hand Forged Wrought Iron, O Loop Design, Fireplace
PAIR OF ANTIQUE WROUGHT IRON ANDIRONS O LOOP DESIGN This clean pair of andirons dates to the mid to late nineteenth century. They were found in an estate near Harpers Ferry. West Virginia. They are hand forged and thus not identical in size or shape. The larger of the two measures 12-3/4" tall x 8-3/4" wide at the feet with a 12-3/4" long log rest. The other is 13-1/4" tall x 8-3/4" wide at the feet with a 12-3/4" long log rest. As the measurements indicate. They are similar in size except for their height. Despite their age. They remain in very good condition without any cracks or other damage. One has a hole in one side of the foot. SPECTACULAR Antique Hand Forged Wrought Iron Fireplace Tool Set - FINE QUALITY
Don't know exactly how old this set is but I purchased a cast iron log basket dated 1920 from the same estate that had nothing but fine items. I was surprised not to find a makers mark on this set but the quality speaks for itself. A very skilled blacksmith was obviously involved. The brass ball tops are screwed on. The condition is excellent. No significant rust or signs of use/abuse. Very classy and ornate.
