Here's a vintage manual fire blower/starter made of wood with copper made in France All copper on the front with a seaman picture and a little copper on the backside Leather is missing on the backside starting from the shoulder(where it meets the neck) on oneside continuing up around the handle to the otherside to the shoulder( pics 5. 10 and last) Leather around the sides is torn in a few places( not bad) pic 4 The tip where the air comes out is a little crunched(pic 3) End of the leather strip on the front at the bottom of the picture scene is sticking up on both sides( pic 2) Also. Lightning Lighter Kerosene Fireplace Fire Starter- Vintage Brass This Lightning Lighter was probably filled with kerosene. The operator would pull the syringe handle out which would suck the kerosene into the syringe. It could then be sprayed onto the logs and lit. When I unscrewed the syringe. There are gaskets and the fit is tight enough that I think it would work. The Lightning Lighter fire starter tool measures just over 9" high by 6" wide at the handle. The bottom is 4 7/8" in diameter. The words"Patent Applied For" are stamped on the bottom. It looks to be made of brass. Overall in very good condition with dings all around(see pictures) It probably set next to the fireplace and got hit when messing with the fire. I believe the accelerant used in the brass syringe was kerosene but I'm sure others were used and that's probably why they're not sold in stores today. Patent Applied For" is stamped on the bottom. Overall in very good condition with only minor dings on one side( see pictures) I never cleaned this piece as you can see by the difference in patina from the outside and the syringe inside. Some sticky residue on small area from a piece of tape or something. Again I didn't try to remove for fear of damaging patina.Very cool conversation piece. Posted with

Thatcher Cast Iron Kerosene Pot without wand. This cast iron pot has a brass lid. The pot was made to hold kerosene or pine pitch which was used as a fire starter. This would look great on any fireplace hearth. these are rare and hard to find. the name THATCHER is embossed on the bottom. Brass rings are in excellent condition. It stands about 7 1/2" high to the top of the finial and is about 6 1/2" across The wand is about 8 3/4" long including the brass handle. This is in good condition Age unknown. Do believe this is from the 30's-40'S Fire Starter Pot. IS CAST IRON with four legs and a Brass lid. A fire starter is usually made out of cast iron or, sometimes, clay or another ceramic material. Inside is a metal rod, usually with a soapstone/pumis disk at the top. The fire pot is filled with a flammable liquid(usually ... morekerosene) that the pumis sits in. To light a fire, the wand is pulled out and the kerosene on the pumis is lit. Then, the soapstone is placed against a log. The kerosene on the soapstone burns for about 10 minutes at a high temperature. Just like a kindling fire, it provides the initial heat to get the fire going, but it does so with far less fuss.
