Please scroll down under this description for additional views. An interesting and rather masculine antique cast iron fireplace cover. These are referred to as"summer covers" for obvious reasons and had practical and aesthetic purposes. The measurements on this one are 20" wide and 19 1/2" tall with a slightly bowed out top edge. Cast onto the back is"503" and"20" the style number and height. The iron has been cast to have a hammered surface with hammered metal"strapping" and a pair of separately cast stirrup-shaped pulls dangling at each end. The front is painted black and even after a good cleaning is still sooty enough to look gray. There is a small drilled hole near the intersection of the strapping- they are original and might have been placed there for small iron knobs. Those are obviously ... moremissing. There's a lot of surface rust on the back but a lot of that will come off with a wire brush. You can make this quite dramatic with some paint- the raised sections can be painted to look like bronze against a contrasting background. We washed the cover down outside for the first photograph to bring out the details it shows what it could look like with a good sand blasting or wire brushing it and a coat of paint. After they dried out we photographed them again to show what you will be receiving in their current state.Or you might want to leave them as they are. A beautiful Quartersawn Oak Fireplace Mantel with bevel edged Mirror. Circa 1880. We are pleased to present this fabulous antique Quartersawn Oak Fireplace Mantel for your consideration. In the Arts& Crafts/ Mission style. The Mantel features a large beveled edge mirror above the shelf, along with a variety of decorative touches including attractive striping of the wood grain on the two vertical columns. The Mantel has overall dimensions of 82 inches high. 60-1/2 inches wide, and 14 inches deep. We estimate the weight at 150 pounds- two people can move it with effort, although its large size makes it somewhat torquey to handle. The mirror measures 17-1/2 inches high by 29-3/8 inches wide. The shelf is 44 inches wide and 7-1/2 inches deep. At the front. The opening for the fireplace is 39 inches high by 41-1/2 inches wide. At the back ... moreedge, the opening is 50 inches wide. Picture 5 shows where the"front" and"back" measurements were taken. Measuring from the wall, to the back edge of the"front" point, the depth is 5-1/4 inches. Faults are few and minor with this antique fixture. The silvering on the mirror shows only minor deterioration. With a few tiny black spots, and some larger areas of crazing where it still reflects. There are a few small burn marks(see pictures 3 and 4) but they only affect the surface finish. There is one noticeable bump to the front edge of the shelf(seen in picture 10) but it is not very large. Other than these issues, the Mantel is in fine shape. We rate the overall condition as very good. This is a gorgeous Arts& Crafts/ Mission style Oak Mantel. It would make a wonderful decorative piece for your remodeling project! Mission, Arts & Crafts Andirons - Rare, Large, Heavy, Unique!
This is a set of rare Arts& Crafts or Mission style andirons. I have not been able to determine the maker. I have been watching for close to a year now. And have not found a pair like them in any antique catalog, auction listing(including prior auctions) dealer listing, or for sale here on eBay. These have great style, and are all original. These are mostly cast iron. And they seem to have originally had a plate finish on them which looks something like an antique brass. I polished one face of the top piece of one of the andirons to show what the finish may have looked like. I have included a close up photo of this area for you to check out. You also can see some of the original plating in the close up view of one of the foot sections. This set could be polished to expose that plating finish all over(to the extent it still remains) they ... morecould be allowed to retain their current aged appearance, or they could be re-plated in whatever fnish the buyers prefers. The pair have a nautical theme and feature a large, Spanish galleon or clipper ship as their focal point. This exceptional and exquisite pair are a combination of iron and bronze/brass. The top section of the andirions are iron and feature the large ship medallion inside the outer frame. A large, detailed leaf is the top finial. The center columns are a barley twist design in an enameled/oiled type finish. They are bronze or brass as a magnet will not adhere to this section. This is a gorgeous set of antique andirons. 5 1/4" wide x 9 3/4" deep x 19" high, age and maker unknown. They appear to be a combination of many styles, Arts and Crafts, Mission, Aesthetic, Stickley Era, and Gothic with paw feet legs, a delicate raised flower, and a raised graduating layered modern overlapping ring design/ pattern in the tall tapered front section. The attached/ screwed on back leg section has a Gothic look. Very heavy, almost 10 pounds each. They do have rust and a beautiful dark patina from use and age. Very unique. Pair of Antique Cast Iron Andirons Fire Dogs in a Arts and Crafts Mission Style
Here is an old pair of cast iron andirons in what looks like an arts and crafts. Mission or gothic style. They stand 17 3/4" high and are 9 3/4" across the front. Unfortunately, the one has a piece broken off at the back end so the log holder portion on one is shorter then the other plus it is bent for some reason. The one is 17 3/8" in length and is a little chunky, but very minor, at the very end. The shorter/bent one is 15 1/2" in length. We see no markings on these. As you can see from the pictures. They both have rust on them and are very dark from use. It looks like there was a copper/brass coating or wash over them which is pretty much worn away. We cannot get the bolts off. Although they stand nice and sturdy, we are selling them"as is" due to their condition. They each weigh almost 11 lbs. We could only ... moreget the bolt off the one with the broken log end and could not get the other one off. So we will have to ship them the way you see them in the last photo!

There is a center door with fixed panels to either side. All 3 have fretwork over glass. There are 3 simple corbels below the cabinet. It measures 54.75 inches wide by 82.75 inches tall and is 12 inches deep. The firebox opening is 38.5 wide by 41.5 tall. Overall. It is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. It needs to be polished up. One of the fretwork panels is broken and the glass behind is missing.
