It can be repaired for alot less than that. You can see where someione attemted to repair it. Probably some farmer who didn't have the right equipment to do it. If you will notice. There are several places for this cover to be bolted. If you have a frame that will fit it, you will probably never even notice the crack. Because of the 2 bolts that hold that bottom piece on, it can't fall off. If I was going to use this, I would pick me up a tube of jb weld or sonic weld and fill the crack. That stuff dries hard as a rock. Any welding shop can fix this for you if you don't like that method and you have a beautiful antique cover. These special fitted ones are very rare and hard to come by. If you don't have the frame, any shop can make one and you still won't have as much in it as it would cost you without that crack. It measures 24" wide and 18 1/4" high. There's really no sense in me giving all the measurements for the holes, you'll know if you have the frame and if you don't then whoever makes one will have the cover to go by. This cover could be as old as 1900 or up thru the 30's. I wouldn't think it would be any newer than that. Let me know if you have any questions. This is a beautiful antique cast iron five piece fire place surround frame and summer cover. It is in very good condition with no breaks.Chips or cracks. There are holes for bolting it to the fireplace and it is all complete. It has gold leaf paint on the ornate details. The Outside frame measures 43" by 42" the summer cover insert frame measures 32" wide by 33 1/2" high and the summer cover opening measures 28" high and 21" wide. Up for sale is this beautiful. Ornate fireplace cover designed with a fairy and cherubs in the corner. Both the main cover and the frame are for sale. The frame measures 31" across x 30 1/4" tall. And The inner cover measures 24.5 wide x 24 5/8" tall Both show their age with some rusting and patina across the entire piece. it could use a good cleaning. Antique 1880's Victorian Cast Iron Fireplace Cover.and could be used for Wall Art,this measures 11 3/4 by 14 inches in the square,then it measures 14 1/4 by 16 1/4 from the round ears to ears,so basically the square part is the smallest part not including the ears,it seems to have some very very old patina on it and im not sure if that is part of the original paint job or if it was ever repainted,but it is old,there are no crack or chips and it really needs a good cleaning,but i was told to leave it all original because most people like to refinish them or leave them in the original state,this probabley weighs around 12 pounds, it has what look like the number 70 on the back,i took a better picture of the number on the back so you could decide if it was that number, this was found in an old Ohio home and the other parts to the old fireplace ... morewere bad,so this was salvaged,Wow,what a beautiful peice this is and will look great on your old fireplace or just as a peice of Wall Art,

They found it while antique hunting or it possibly came from an old home that was torn down in Old Town Alexandria. It probably dates to the 1800's. It has actually been installed in my parents home to cover a fireplace opening and vent a wood stove through it- hence the 6" opening in the cover(which could be covered with something ornate for decorative purposes) Of course you could replace this cover with a more ornate one- I see the right size on ebay regularly. Antique. Circa 1890's, ornate cast iron summer cover surround. The surround measures about 24 1/2" wide, 20 1/8" wide inside x 30" tall, 25" tall inside x 3/4" thickness on side edges. The rear is marked, 422" and"20" The back has various mounting hardware as pictured. The surround has a black protruding hood with floral designs and a center fleur de lis. Antique Art Nouveau Deco Metal Fireplace Summer Cover Ornate Windmill Boat with&
This is an old/antique fireplace cover or cover for summer. It's made of some type of metal. I was able to get a magnet to stick to it. It feels too light to be cast iron. I thought it might be a tin material. But if it was, the magnet wouldn't stick. Even though there's surface rust type color places, I think it would clean up nicely. It's with a place for a pipe that slides over if needed. It has the surface rust type places but seems to be solid as far as I can tell and just needs some cleaning and maybe someone might want to paint it? I am not sure if it was originally made, but each side at the top and bottom have small hole places for small screws maybe? or maybe made for attaching or securing to the fireplace? It has the raised, embossed ornate designs. It looks to be a windmill, a river with a sail boat, village, men ... moreworking? and floral deco/designs around it. 12 photos uploaded hoping you can tell more about it and the condition. Side to side, across, it measures approximately 24 3/4 inches and 30 1/2 inches top to bottom/length. The little metal piece that sticks out on the back side, measuring front to back, almost 1/2 an inch. The pictures taken really doesn't do it justice. Antique Cast Iron Fireplace Surround-Frame-Cover-Ornate Victorian w/Grates
The first thing I would like to point out about this surround is that it does not have a can of krylon sprayed on it to cover it's imperfections. I've restored enough antique cars to know. It has been sandblasted and coated with a good laquer based paint. When you have done this, you know it when you see and feel it. I could almost say it's powder coated but I'm not positive. It's sometimes hard to tell the difference between those 2 finishes. If you buy it, you will agree, it's not been sprayed with a can of krylon to flake off in a short period of time, it's been restored the right way and sandblasting old cast iron or steel is the only way to do it properly so it will last. It's not highly decorative, quiet simply ornate designs like a fan in the 2 upper corners. The ears for mounting the piece are still ... moreon it, all 4 of them. The only flaw I see is in the grate, you can see that it had definitely been used, the bottom part of the grates has been hot enough to break off some of those grates. If your going to use it, that can be repaired. This one was probably restored just to be used for looks and it looks great. The outside frame measures 27 1/4" tall and 23" wide. The opening is 24" at the center height and 16" wide. Very standard measurements for a surround, nothing hard to match for a standard fireplace opening. This surround is ready to be mounted. It is OK to make an offer on either the surround or the summer cover or both pieces together. These were not found together but appear to fit well- the outer piece has a break- seems it will attach to the fireplace/ mantel and won't matter- review photos you will see what i mean- the outer piece has a slightly convex edge at the top- so air will still flow through there- please see last photo- there is a gap between the top piece and the interior summer cover because the surround is a"bowfront" 161310497567 is the item number for the fireplace surround separately- has measurements and more photos. Original 1895 Dawson Brothers Victorian Era Fireplace Insert. Lightweight. Made of a heavy gauge type tin w/brushed copper. The inside grate is ornate cast iron. very nice condition for 129 years old. The cover is decorated with a crest or shield of some sort. I have not tried to clean in any way as some like that patina you cannot get back once cleaned, the Insert is 30-1/4" tall x 24-1/2 wide& there is a 2" Lip? around except on the bottom which is flush with the floor. the top would need 2" in the wall and bottom 4" If you look at the photo of the back of insert, you can see it is bent in some, very easy to pound out and does not show once installed The unit is 100% complete& original, no repairs I am happy to answer any questions you may have. RARE Antique FIREPLACE Complete Ornate Cast Iron &Summer Cover Works VTG Furnace
GORGEOUS ANTIQUE ~*COMPLETE. WORKING*~ CAST IRON FIREPLACE with ORNATE SUMMER COVER SCREEN CIRCA late 1800's. Early 1900. ALL ORIGINAL. All parts in good working condition. Stunning architectural piece and so difficult to find in complete condition and all original. Excellent used condition, cast iron with gilt or antique bronze finish, original patina, solid and sturdy. Estimated weight around 200 pounds. There is one small hairline on the firebrick(see photo) otherwise no cracks, no breaks, no repairs or damage. Grates all function properly. May need to be cleaned and lubricated if installed for use. VERY ornate nouveau fire place is heavily decorated with raised flourishes& flowers, and features cheerful birds in flight near a"Wedding" ring. The back is signed Columbian(the pattern name) and is numbered 470 is several ... moreplaces. The screen itself measures 24" wide x 19 1/2" tall. The entire fireplace measures 30 1/2 inches wide x 30 1/2" tall x 14" deep. The firebox itself is about 10" deep. Fabulous piece for Victorian home restoration.
