Vintage Solid Brass Fireplace Andirons Large 11" dia. Ball Finials 17.5" H
Very nice pair of old brass ball andirons. Solid and heavy. The one arm or extension has been repaired with a sleeve of sorts and wiring around the arm. It is shown in photo 2. Nice repair job and very usable. I started to polish the finials(one on right has been partially polished) Would b gorgeous polished. Measure almost 18" high and the extensions are 14" The balls measure 11" around the ball. So they are on the larger size. The only identification I could find is what looks like 100K or R on the bottom of one of the arms. These came from an estate in Baltimore. Fireplace Fender - Antique 1800's Brass and Plate Victorian Ball & Stick
TIME TO MOVE THIS VERY NICE ITEM- NEW LOWER PRICE! A very nice-looking fireplace fender from my family home. Built in 1895. I would guess the fender itself was"original equipment" in the house, especially comparing it with the other fenders that came from same house. But it could be 1890's- 1910's, I am guessing. Only minimally polished in order to clean up. The spindles or uprights are solid brass and are not magnetic. The top two tubular cross pieces are brass plate. The base is not magnetic or is only very slightly. Maybe due to the iron brackets and screws underneath. This piece has a lovely scale to it and only has minimal dings and bumps- no serious dents and no cracks or bad stains. The posts are in great condition and just look super after a minimum of buffing. Details: 39 inches long by 9.5 inches deep by 7 inches ... morehigh. Weight: Nine pounds. Pair of elegant Early Antique Brass Andirons* Ball tops on baluster shafts. Spurred cabriole legs and slipper feet with conforming brass ball-top log stops. Wrought Iron Supports. They are in un-polished condition and would shine nicely if the buyer decides to do so. I was unable to locate, or identify a makers mark though it is possible there is one under all the soot build up or elsewhere. As you can see in the pictures the wrought iron beams are entirely hand forged. They measure 13" High, 9 1/4" wide at the feet, and 15 1/2" Long(measurements are slightly rounded since they are both slightly different) The top ball is about 2 3/4" diameter. The log stops are about 2 3/8" tall. They are quite HEAVY. Condition: lots of surface tarnish/soot stains etc. Some nicks and scratches as well. This pair stands 20" tall and has a great aged patina to the metal that only time and heat can produce. It is a heavy casting with the andiron alone weighing a bit over 5 pounds not thin and cheap as often found with the newer andirons on the market. Often called a cannonball this design tapers at the top and comes to a large ball. A bit on the rarer side this design is not often found. Great look and patina that would serve well in most any fireplace. Dimensions: Andirons stand 20.5" tall. Dogs measure 21" long to the front of the andiron. Condition: Good usable condition. Antique Brass 2 1/2" Canon Ball Andirons Fire Dog Irons w/ Patina 27 1/4" x 14" These andirons belonged to my wife's grandmother. I would guesstimate they are from the late 1800's- early 1900's. They are made of brass and iron. I'm fairly certain the iron is hand forged due to the inconsistency in the shape. The brass head piece has a 2 1/2" canon ball top& small ball feet on the ends of the legs. There are a couple of very minor dings on both of the canon balls as can be expected with anything of this age that was designed to be used. The legs were bent a little and I tweaked them a bit to straighten them out. Might need a tad more tweaking. As far as I know they have there original patina and have never been shined. They are approximately 27 1/4" long x 14" tall x 5 1/2" wide. The square ... morenut is rusted in place and will need to WD-40 or something similiar if you wanted to loosen or tighten.
