It has a brite"US" nameplate which appears to be solid brass and silver accenting on the casting names and rivet heads. The top is 52W X 36D X 33H. It's real cast iron- it weighs in the neighborhood of 400 lbs. The Vulcan-Hart company. With history back to 1865, still makes high quality $$$ commercial stoves today and the quality and lineage of this unit shows. Built in 1951 according to the nameplate on the side. It came with a 1947 house I purchased last year. According to the 87 year old previous owner, the unit was bought new and placed in the corner of the living room by his aunt during a 1952 renovation and hasn't moved since. He only used it for extra heating in that large room and never recalled actually burning wood in the unit, and I found only evidence of natural gas use. It comes with the stock"tools" poker, scraper etc. The unused heavy-ass firebox grating for burning solids is in the last photo. It was sitting in the bottom of the ash drawer. It is a bit dusty in the photos and it does have a light patina of rust color on the inside but I know most of that is due to the natural gas combustion residue. And there is no ash inside and very little soot in the flue. I decided to leave it all original and not try to restore it as that might change its value and it does in fact need very little cleaning and perhaps some paint inside to make it look like new again. I found no cracks, scratches, or damage of any kind when I inspected it, and I do feel confident in its excellent condition, but I am selling it as-is, no warranties. It will come with the carbura

Scumble / Scumbling - reproduction or repair of antiques wood furniture - 50g
Scumble Crystals 50g Bag(25 grams will make about a Litre of solution) Just add water! As used by the Antiques trade to create a naturally aged/ weathered effect on wood. Also works on Bone, Horn and Ivory. The technique is commonly called in the trade"Scumbling" S imply mix the Scumble crystals with water and brush on the wood and the wood does the rest! Scumbling is the effect of the reaction with the natural tannin found in wood. This reaction/ effect will look naturally old, and can range in colour from light to dark grey to a natural blue tone. The results created on wood will vary. Because this is not an exact science! wood is natural and results depend on many variable factors: for example, the strength of dilution used or the number of coats applied, the type of wood(Oak, Mahogany, Walnut, Pine etc) the part of the tree ... morefrom which the wood was cut from( heart or sap wood) the dryness and also time all play a role. The finish created by scumbling is not like using wood dye which is even and uniform in colour. Scumbling makes wood look naturaly old. The results speak for themself when experts struggle to identify the difference, hence why its used by Antique restorers, French polishers and reproduction furniture makers to make or repair furniture. The Scumble effect works best on wood with a high tannin content, like Oak, Mahogany, Walnut, Cherry etc, but it is also commonly used on new Pine to make Pine look like Oak. To use: as a guide. Add about a level teaspoonfull of Scrumble to about ½ pint of water and stir. This percentage can be made stronger or weaker to produce lighter or darker shades if required. The scrumble is normally applied using a brush, but wood can also be dipped. The colour cannot always be instantly judged, because the scumble is being absorbed into the wood and it reacts with the tannin and the air for a further 24– 48 hours and reacts until it is fully dry, then the wood can be either left unfinished, or varnished, oiled or wax polished etc. It is important that the w

The breakdown of the wood cells is an important aspect of age determination. The strength of the wood is the outer edge of cells. The cell center(like bone marrow) is the passageway that feeds the wood. This center lacks strength as it is softer then the cell walls, thus it disintegrates more quickly. Laboratories determine the progress of the cell center decay to determine the wood age. This varies some by the tree variety also the location of the carving must be considered. It is difficult if not impossible to find a 300 year old carving in the tropics as humidity speeds destruction. Also wood eating insects are a big problem. Antiques Arts& Crafts Era Solid Wood Wall Mount Towel Bar Oak Every Memorial Day weekend. I go to a dealer in Indiana to treasure hunt, and I love my pickings this year. Lots of really interesting items this week- antiques and unique for sure! I’m also still listing new items from my last trip to the flea market, so there’s definitely something for everyone! Here is an antique towel bar with wonderful arts& crafts era style. Made of solid oak. It measures 18" by 3 1/4" by 3" deep- the towel bar space being 14 1/4" long. It weighs 2 lbs and is in excellent solid and sturdy condition structually, with rusitic wear to the age darkened patina, and the wood. There's a light round(looks like water matk) on the front of the bar that I'm showing in photos 4& 5- it's about the size of a quarter in width ... moreand a nickel in height. There's other scratches, scrapes, nicks, nibbles, dings and small corner chips- like I'm showing in photo 12. It's all part of the story of this beauty, though. You could polish to minimize all, but I wouldn't change a thing. There's two screw mounting holes on the backside- and you are good to hang.I can't tell for sure, but I think it is hand made. It's dusty. And could use a little clean up, but what a treasure you will have- you don't often see functional oldees with such style from this era. Love it! Please ask if you have any questions.
