Which it appears someone tried to remove- it is completely secure but is a little"off" as shown. Very light scuffs to silver here and there, mirror back has a few"pin-prick" like indentions, over all in amazing condition. The Webster hallmark(a W with an arrow-like symbol through it) is very light but can be seen beside the sterling mark on the mirror, and on the handle of the nail file, in the right light. The mirror is 11.75 inches long and 6 inches wide. The nail and shoe horn. Measuring the handles only. Are 3.75 long. Superb 19th Century French Wall Hanging Frame in Hand Mirror Shape ex Plated
Superb and Most Unusual 19th Century French Wall Hanging Frame in Hand Mirror Shape with Classical Motifs. Putti, etc. This is an unusual item of high quality. The frame is of metal- possibly brass. This has at one time been silver plated but this has since been worn from the front- the reverse shows that the item was once plated. Definitely a wall hanging frame rather than a hand mirror, the ornate front has classical motifs whilst the reverse is flat and has a hanging ring. I would date it to Ca. 1870 and believe it is probably French in origin- but I may be mistaken. The item has a height of approx 30.6 cm. It is in good used condition with wear to the plating as can be seen below. The glass is missing. There is no restoration. Please study the close up pictures below for full details. This is an absolutely beautiful Antique Italian Rococo Style carved wood and gesso mirror. Looks like it was carved from a single wood panel and is intricately painted with the most amazing details. So much detail. One would find details like this on a full sized piece of furniture. Hand painted with very intricate details of roses, flowers and the like. Base color is a rich deep creamy gold color which more than likely was originally an oil base white. Detailed with moss green and a profusion of red flowers embellishing this wonderful piece. Nicely varnished in clear giving this piece a wonderful warmth. Stands approximately 20 1/4 inches tall and measures approximately 12 1/2 inches wide and wood is over 1 1/2 inches at it's widest thickness. This was originally purchased by my grandmother who lived for a while in the Russian section ... morenear Knob Hill. I have here an antique mirror. I don't know to much about this item. I searched high and low on the internet to get more information and was unable to do so. It is beautifully made with a lot of detail that is hard to pick up on camera. The back side of the mirror has a raised image of a young woman sitting at a table with candles and what appears to be a writing utensil in her hand. The original paint on this mirror is chipped and rubbed off in a lot of places but just adds to the character of this piece. It is absolutely beautiful! I did not even bother cleaning it except for wiping it down gently with a soft cotton cloth because the natural patina and dust added something magical to its charm. Up for auction is an antique hand mirror with angels. I am told it is Edwardian in style. I did not know Edward. So I cannot attest to that fact. It has the initials ACR engraved on the back. The mirrir surface is well aged and is marginally functional as a mirror. It is marked Sterling 925 fine in at least 2 places.This is from my wifes collection.I just think it is nice.
