An incredible accomplishment. The foundry work executed in this piece is above reproach- each gilt bronze mount is hand chased to the highest quality, mercury gilded and of outstanding detail. An angular and commanding work, the Armoire is surmounted by a triangular crest that is removable from the body with two dowels on either side- this is flanked by a pair of carved mahogany(replaced) finials. Beneath the projecting crown molding, an incredible gilt bronze mount of an angel riding through ocean waves in a cornucopia pulled along by swans while leaving behind a trail of shells is simply stunning. Flanking this on either side are opposing gilt bronze solider masks. The top is removable. Lifting off of large steel screws inside of the armoire to allow the door to be lifted from it's hinges for easier transportation. On either side of the door, pedestaled on large tapered columns rest large and highly impressive patinated and gilt bronze Classical female heads with bowed ribbon holding her hair back. These are the largest mounts of flawless execution we've seen on a piece from this period, each a stunning work of art in it's own merit. A hand filed steel screw secures each head to the case. Beneath the column, intense gilded Lion Paw's in the Regency manner complete the form. The arched door swings open with use of the original key. Revealing a golden oak interior of four shelves and a single locking drawer. This drawer is hand dovetailed with solid oak secondary woods, when removed revealing an illegible signature in period script along the dust board. Affixed to the top of the armoire on the inside is an old bill of lading from Lawsonia Manufacturing Company in Philadelphia, noting it's sale of an"Exist. This lovely extra large antique mahogany armoire or wardrobe with gorgeous wood grains and veneers. Manufactured during the early 1900's in England or Scotland was recently imported from the UK through Edinburgh Scotland. It offers beautiful organized storage for even the largest wardrobe. This early twentieth century wardrobe offers a large double hanging closet with a hanging bar with multiple sliding cloak hooks on the bar as well as cloak hooks around the inside of the closet. This open closet space of course could easily be fitted with any of the the modular storage systems available in most major department stores if that better served the needs of the new owner. The opposing single closet is fitted with three removable shelves which makes four large functional cubbies. The decorative doors on this wardrobe include beautiful veneer ... morepanels on the two outside closet doors and a large arch top beveled mirror on the center closet door. The design of the piece includes decorative metal hardware as shown and it appears to be both original and intact. This wardrobe does have a currently working lock and a key. Though I never guarentee old locks. The real highlight is the gorgeous wood used to create this piece and craftmanship that went into making it into such functional storage space. This is a high quality piece with dovetailed drawers and sturdy construction. This wardrobe has been in our family since my great great grandfather won it as a prize in a pigeon-homing contest in Herentals. Belgium when he was 20 years old. It has been passed down from generation to generation and traveled with us to the states when we immigrated in the 1990s. Unfortunately, it no longer fits in our small apartment. Circa 1930. The wardrobe features a classically styled cloud shaped cornice and triple vertical reeded front corners. The two doors are highly figured with a stunning walnut veneer. The right hand door is opened using a sprung push button, flanked by the original deep red bakelite handles. There is also a working lock and key to the door. The left hand door features two latches, which keep the door closed whilst the right hand door is open. Inside the wardrobe are four-quarter circle internal shelves to the right. To the left, is a metal telescopic extending hanging rail, which extends outwards so that you can easily hang your clothes on the rail. On the inside of the right door is a metal hanging rail. Below the drawers, there is a protruding moulded section. Below are two large hand dovetailed oak lined drawers, which also feature the original bakelite handles. The wardrobe sits on four slim protruding bracket feet and features solid backboards. Antique Wardrobe / Armoire, Solid Mahogany, Possible Entertainment Center
This is a great old heavy solid mahogany wardrobe which I believe is early 1900's. It has been in my family for at least 60 years. The outside was refinished with a blond antiqued finish many years ago and is still in fair to good condition. It is very solid without any loose joints. The inside is all solid mahogany drawers which appear to have their original varnished finish. The drawers are in excellent condition for their age and do not need any refinishing. A few of the dovetail joints are slightly loose but really do not need any attention. There are seven huge open-front drawers which glide in and out easily. It's been in dry storage for the last 20 years. The caning on the doors was done at the same time as the refinishing and is in excellent condition. At one time there were apparently fabric panels in the doors. The hardware ... moreis still there if you want to stretch fabric behind the caning. The doors come with the original brass key and working lock. In my opinion. This wardrobe can be used as is without major refinishing. Or you can restore the outside to the original mahogany finish. There are a few cosmetic issues: A small piece of the hand-carved detail is missing on the top of the right door. Also one piece of narrow dental molding is missing from the left side of the lower panel of the right door. It's fairly simple dental molding and would be easy to recreate with 1/8" dowel and a triangular file. These defects are not very noticeable until you get close. There is also a middle cross support visible in the photos. If the top drawers are removed. This support can be a shelf to turn this armoire into an entertainment center. It would accept a TV up to 31.5" wide(about 34" to 35" diagonal) The lower drawers could house electronics and media. The measurements are 64" high. 36" wide at the top, and 23" deep. Antique Chifferobe Wardrobe Dresser early 1900s
No shipping. Best I can tell this is at least 100 years old so I guess it can be called Antique. The beveled mirror is very nice. Sometime maybe back in the late 70's or 80's the old finish was stripped off. The photos of the mirror frame are close to it's color. Maybe about the same time the drawer pulls were replaced. It has it's share of some dings and age cracks. The floor in the closet is water stained and a bit warped. The lighter photos are more what it looks like. To the top of the mirror stands about 6' 5" If you have any questions please ask before the last 12 hours. If you need more photos I can get them. Antique Wardrobe BIG 7 Foot Solid Oak Wardrobe Freestanding Wardrobe
My best guess is this wardrobe dates back to late 1800's or early 1900's. I can tell you its been sitting in the same house since it was built in 1910. So its at least that old, but still in nice condition. It does have surface wear scratching as pictured, but its all cosmetic with no major damage, it is missing the lock. This is a BIG piece of furniture that stands 7 foot tall, is 49" wide, and 20" deep. Solid oak antique piece. This beautiful country style antique armoire or wardrobe is believed to have been from the early 1900s. It is made out of poplar wood. Or"Poor Man's Cherry/Walnut" and sometimes referred to as Cottonwood. For a soft wood, poplar is extremely hard and sturdy, not to mention beautiful. The armoire has been painted ivory and lightly distressed on the outside; the interior is stained a Dark Walnut color for a beautiful contrast. This is a large wardrobe that is from England and brought to the US by an American Soldier in the 1980's. It is a very nice piece with very few flaws. It has a mirrored front door with the original door and draw handles and key. It also has the original inside hanging bar and hooks. It has a wide over hanging top and one draw at the bottom. It comes apart in 3 pieces. The top molding piece, the center with the mirrored door and the bottom drawer piece. If you look at pictures#8,9 and#10 you can see one lower edge on the outside is missing a small area of the molding. This piece stands on fancy curved feet with original casters(for ease of moving) and opens to reveal six(6) dove-tail joined drawers on the left side with a top cabinet for storage and a hanging closet on the right with a metal extension rack that can be extended outwards to view articles of clothing. Geometric designs and PANELED door and sides, all in it’s original dark oak finish!~ ~Great“half octagon” size. Notice the slanted sides give an outstanding silhouette, with a great“three panel” front visual~ ~Interior has high upper shelf for storage and two‘front to back’ ... morebars for hangers as well as some back wall hooks~ ~ c1900 ~ Measurements: VERY LARGE.
