1920's era HANDLES and LOCK from COMPACTOM Gentleman's "Campaign" Wardrobe
HANDLES& LOCK from c. 1920 Compactom Gentleman's Wardrobe Wardrobe was"Campaign Furniture" and saw military service. WORKS OK but Sold as"In need of cleaning and restoration" COMPACTOM Ltd. of 143 Regent Street. London was an early twentieth century company which specialised in"Compactum" wardobes for gentlemen. They made some higher quality models but also lighter"Campaign" quality models for Officers to take with them when sent on tours of duty between the wars. The vendor's father was one of these officers but sadly the wardrobe itself was beyond repair when inherited some years ago. Years of sun in the North African desert had totally destroyed the wood! The handles and lock survive and should be of great interest to anyone restoring such furniture. The vendor can't be sure what ... moremetal the handles and lock are made from. See photos.
