An incredible accomplishment. The foundry work executed in this piece is above reproach- each gilt bronze mount is hand chased to the highest quality, mercury gilded and of outstanding detail. An angular and commanding work, the Armoire is surmounted by a triangular crest that is removable from the body with two dowels on either side- this is flanked by a pair of carved mahogany(replaced) finials. Beneath the projecting crown molding, an incredible gilt bronze mount of an angel riding through ocean waves in a cornucopia pulled along by swans while leaving behind a trail of shells is simply stunning. Flanking this on either side are opposing gilt bronze solider masks. The top is removable. Lifting off of large steel screws inside of the armoire to allow the door to be lifted from it's hinges for easier transportation. On either side of the door, pedestaled on large tapered columns rest large and highly impressive patinated and gilt bronze Classical female heads with bowed ribbon holding her hair back. These are the largest mounts of flawless execution we've seen on a piece from this period, each a stunning work of art in it's own merit. A hand filed steel screw secures each head to the case. Beneath the column, intense gilded Lion Paw's in the Regency manner complete the form. The arched door swings open with use of the original key. Revealing a golden oak interior of four shelves and a single locking drawer. This drawer is hand dovetailed with solid oak secondary woods, when removed revealing an illegible signature in period script along the dust board. Affixed to the top of the armoire on the inside is an old bill of lading from Lawsonia Manufacturing Company in Philadelphia, noting it's sale of an"Exist. A gorgeous mid-century Birds Eye Maple Wardrobe with Mahogany on the inside. We are pleased to present this beautiful Wardrobe for your consideration. The exterior is primarily Birds Eye Maple with areas of decorative veneer. Plus there is a narrow mirror running down much of the center. The interior is lined with Mahogany, and features two areas of different heights for hanging garments, plus one upper shelf for accessories. The piece has some Art Deco features, but dates to the 1940's or 1950's. The Wardrobe measures 74 inches high. 48-1/2 inches wide, and 22 inches deep(which includes the curved surface on the front doors) The piece is in fine shape and ready to be used. There are occasional signs of wear as would be expected on a used piece of furniture. But nothing major. Antique Armoire with a very clear Beveled Original Mirror. Hand carved decorations on the front. As pictured. It has a tall cabinet for hanging clothes and a smaller cabinet with 2 shelves and 3 generous drawers. It sits on an additional large. Deep drawer. In addition, it is crowned with a decorative scroll-work topper. The final assembled height is 7 feet. It is a little over 4 feet wide and approximately 18 inches deep. It comes in 4 parts- a stand. The wide bottom drawer, the main armoire with 2 cabinets and 3 drawers, and the top piece. The main cabinet has a large beveled mirror in the door. The mirror is 13 1/2 inches wide and 4 feet tall. The main piece is made of heavy Mahogany-like wood with mainly original fittings. You can see that the drawer pull for the bottom(of the 3) drawer was replaced. But many years ago, so that brass ... morehas also aged. I think it dates from about 1900(the style was popular from about 1890-1910) We aren't sure of actual wood. Antique Wardrobe This antique wardrobe date from around the 1920's to 1940's. The cabinet is made from solid mahogany and has solid copper hardware. There are wardrobe closets on either side of a center dresser. Each door to the closets have full length mirrors measuring 16 1/2" wide and 56 1/2" tall. right side mirror cracked. The center dresser has three drawers measuring 26" wide and 7" tall. There are two more drawers atop these three that are have the size. Above the dresser is a cabinet with two glass paneled doors. The glass squares measure 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" and appear to be blown glass. The cabinet breaks down into six movable pieces for easy moving/shipping. This lovely extra large antique mahogany armoire or wardrobe with gorgeous wood grains and veneers. Manufactured during the early 1900's in England or Scotland was recently imported from the UK through Edinburgh Scotland. It offers beautiful organized storage for even the largest wardrobe. This early twentieth century wardrobe offers a large double hanging closet with a hanging bar with multiple sliding cloak hooks on the bar as well as cloak hooks around the inside of the closet. This open closet space of course could easily be fitted with any of the the modular storage systems available in most major department stores if that better served the needs of the new owner. The opposing single closet is fitted with three removable shelves which makes four large functional cubbies. The decorative doors on this wardrobe include beautiful veneer ... morepanels on the two outside closet doors and a large arch top beveled mirror on the center closet door. The design of the piece includes decorative metal hardware as shown and it appears to be both original and intact. This wardrobe does have a currently working lock and a key. Though I never guarentee old locks. The real highlight is the gorgeous wood used to create this piece and craftmanship that went into making it into such functional storage space. This is a high quality piece with dovetailed drawers and sturdy construction. I've included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately represent the construction, design, condition and beauty of the piece, though pictures just don't do it justice. I notice the bonnet was not quite seated on top when I shot these photo's but it does fit tightly and helps hold the wardrobe together as per design. Antique Wardrobe / Armoire, Solid Mahogany, Possible Entertainment Center
This is a great old heavy solid mahogany wardrobe which I believe is early 1900's. It has been in my family for at least 60 years. The outside was refinished with a blond antiqued finish many years ago and is still in fair to good condition. It is very solid without any loose joints. The inside is all solid mahogany drawers which appear to have their original varnished finish. The drawers are in excellent condition for their age and do not need any refinishing. A few of the dovetail joints are slightly loose but really do not need any attention. There are seven huge open-front drawers which glide in and out easily. It's been in dry storage for the last 20 years. The caning on the doors was done at the same time as the refinishing and is in excellent condition. At one time there were apparently fabric panels in the doors. The hardware ... moreis still there if you want to stretch fabric behind the caning. The doors come with the original brass key and working lock. In my opinion. This wardrobe can be used as is without major refinishing. Or you can restore the outside to the original mahogany finish. There are a few cosmetic issues: A small piece of the hand-carved detail is missing on the top of the right door. Also one piece of narrow dental molding is missing from the left side of the lower panel of the right door. It's fairly simple dental molding and would be easy to recreate with 1/8" dowel and a triangular file. These defects are not very noticeable until you get close. There is also a middle cross support visible in the photos. If the top drawers are removed. This support can be a shelf to turn this armoire into an entertainment center. It would accept a TV up to 31.5" wide(about 34" to 35" diagonal) The lower drawers could house electronics and media. The measurements are 64" high. 36" wide at the top, and 23" deep. Inside the right door is a variety of hooks and a fixed wooden shelf while the left door houses a taller open space with a rod. The three drawers slide easily and are made with dovetailed drawer joints. The left door and all three drawers lock with the one included key. The key does not work for the right door. This armoire comes apart in three pieces(crown. Large center section, and base) for easier shipping and moving. We are giving this piece a good condition rating. It is sturdy and solid and all of the doors and drawers function well. There are some minor cosmetic issues to point out. The left door’s oval panel appears to have been replaced. The top right corner of the crown has some small damage. The left side of the wardrobe has two age separations(the right side has one at the base) and an old scratch.
