Quite Sectacular Cabintry work this Louis XV Style armoire tht dates to the 1st Quarter of the 20th Century. Signed MERCIER FRERES, PARIS. MERCIER FRERES was a distinguished French Design and Furniture manufacturer founded in the late 19th century and continuing into the 20th. 1924 was the year Mercier Freres was chosen to represent France in the Grand Cental Palace in Exposition de Francaise de New York. I love to research. Am by far an expert but believe this dates to this time period. I have taken well over 35 photos of this piece(cannot figure out how to post more! simply to show how beautifully it assembles and disassembles-in which I have done several times which is why I have chosen the photos that I am posting. Should you have interest I am more than happy to share many more. Each time is like clockwork. Which simply shows the extrodinary ... morecraftmanship when it was created. I have enjoyed this wonderful piece for many years and did bring it on my last move with all intensions of being able to enjoy for many more-it is just too tall for my home and in need of a 10 foot ceiling to be appreciated. The Armoire is in wonderful condition and holds its original silk satin lining. I had left this for its antiquity and protection to the wood that appears to be in pristine condition. Please see the photos. The hand carved crown is in excellent condition, I have saved one photo spot for this which I will add by tomorrow night. The wood is solid walnut and walnut veneers. Assembled the armoire measures 104" in height- 8' 7" 56" wide at maximum point and just about 20" deep. It truly is in excellent condition for its age, has been well loved and cared for and it shows. As for freight/shipping cost the shop I am in uses Safe Ship and more than able to get you a cost. I do travel up north often-I would also be more than able to deliver for a minimal cost if you should happen to be within a few miles off of I-95 from Daytona Beach to Northern New Jersey. Has both hanging and shelves which are also removable. It measures 78"w x 92"h x 21.5"d. Piece is generally in good condition but just needs a little TLC. Although it looks cool just as it is. On the right is silver mirrored door which opens up into three shelves. Including a bar on the back of the door for hanging belts, ties or clothes when getting dressed. Towards the top left are double doors for even more storage. This beautiful wardrobe features a lock and key. The locks are all from National Lock Company out of Rockford, Illinois. As a team of three Swedish immigrants they began making furniture locks in 1903. All of the locks are in working condition. This wonderful piece of craftsmanship is perfect for any home. Especially those with limited storage space. CONDITION Minor wear from use and age There is a small chip in the veneer ... moreon the middle of the top left double doors. There are also some minor surface scratches on the sides from being moves around. And a ring on the top surface from someone leaving a drink on it. Otherwise normal wear from age such as rubbing on the drawers from being used. Classic Vintage Antique "Chifferobe" Wardrobe Armoire Early 20th Century
This is an early 1900's antique"chifferobe" or"chifforobe" or"chiffarobe" I.e. wardrobe with 5 drawers and a small mirrored door on one side, and a full size wardrobe door on the other side. Behind the full size door is a place for hanging garments with an iron hanging rod. A couple of the drawers need some work but everything else functions normally. Beautiful wood grain with wear and tear that would be expected for age of furniture. Has been in continual use for 75 to 95 years! The inside of the chifferobe is somewhat more rustic than the exterior. One drawer bottom is quite interesting(see photo# 6)I don't know if this wooden crating material was a replacement or if it originally came that way. Either way. It's been like that for as long as I can remember, and I'm 57 years old. Truly. This ... moreitem would make a great display piece for an antique clothing boutique or for great storage for at home! Dimensions: approximately. 45" in width. 63" in height, and 22.35 in depth. A little bit of history: My grandparents were married in 1919. This chifferobe very likely dates from the very beginning of their marriage. If not. They certainly acquired it sometime soon thereafter. It was a fixture in their home for decades. And my widowed grandmother continued to use it throughout her adult life up until her death in the early 1990s. So this is truly an original vintage item with quite a bit of age on it. TRIVIA: In"To Kill a Mockingbird" The character Mayella Ewell pays Tom Robinson a nickel to"bust up" an old chifferobe for her. This incident becomes central to film's major courtroom drama.

Antique CHIFFEROBE. ARMOIRE, CLOSET.c1907.5 drawers with original glass pulls.very clean except the last drawer needs some additional cleaning. Top drawer has WORKING lock. Smaller'hatbox' compartment has original beveled mirror in the door. Larger door on wardrobe side locks and also has the original beveled mirror. I had to reset the mirror as it had wiggled down and once inside found the label from the glass company in Tennessee dated August 1907(didn't think of it at the time. But I should have taken a photo of the tag) Inside this long side, is the original metal rod for your hanging clothes. It is original, sturdy, and strong. This chifferobe stands 64 inches tall outside. It measures 43 inches across the front and is is 21 inches deep, including the tips of the two lovely victorian rounded feet and tips of the glass pulls. ... morePlease excuse the triangular point of a wall decoration behind this piece) It has ample storage space with the smaller compartment and all the drawers. Would make an excellent addition to any bedroom. Or perhaps use it as a display piece in your shop. The piece has been in complete use since it was manufactured in 1907 except for about the last 5 years.
